Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Zone Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa! Welcome to Week 75 / Round 3 of the Hive Music Festival!

Let’s continue the following theme for my Hive Music Festival entries one last time:

Sometimes as musicians we tend to take ourselves a little bit too seriously. I definitely remember doing this when I first started playing Open Mic nights and pubs when I was a younger man. Sometimes it’s important to remember that it’s okay to just have fun with our music!

One of the ways that I like to do this is to take a cheesy pop song and try and cover it on solo acoustic guitar. Will the song still be catchy and recognisable in its bare-bones form due to its chord structure, melody and hooks? Sometimes! Other times, the attempt seems to fall flat, and I then realise that what made the song stand out were probably special sounds/effects or something else to do with the production that I cannot emulate… it’s an interesting game to play!

So far, I have tackled songs by Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Tones & I, Katty Perry and Britney Spears

Let’s do this one last time with the song that made Carly Rae Jepsen famous: “Call Me Maybe”.

Well, that was fun as always, but for me this time, more than any of the previous times, there was the little strings and keys riff chord-change thing missing from the chorus that I really missed, and I think was fundamental to the song. Do you agree?

Alright! From Week 76 onwards, why don’t I try and be brave, and bring my cover request challenge back, and base it here on the Hive Music Festival?

About a year ago, when I was still quite new to Hive, I had a weekly post of my own initiative where I would ask for cover requests in the comments. The following week I would try to tackle a chosen song, and the person/account who requested that winning song would get 50% of the post rewards!

Hola a todos en HIVE, y especialmente a la comunidad Music Zone. ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica! ¡Bienvenidos a la Semana 75/Ronda 3 del Hive Music Festival!

Continuaremos con el siguiente tema para mis entradas al Hive Music Festival por última vez:

A veces, como músicos, tendemos a tomarnos demasiado en serio. Definitivamente recuerdo haber hecho esto cuando comencé a tocar en pubs y noches de Open Mic cuando era más joven. ¡A veces es importante recordar que está bien simplemente divertirse con nuestra música!

Una de las formas en que me gusta hacer esto es tomar una canción pop cursi e intentar versionarla con un solo de guitarra acústica. ¿Seguirá siendo la canción pegadiza y reconocible en su forma básica debido a su estructura de acordes, melodía y ganchos? ¡A veces! Otras veces, el intento parece fracasar, y luego me doy cuenta de que lo que hizo que la canción se destacara probablemente fueron sonidos/efectos especiales o algo más relacionado con la producción que no puedo emular... ¡es un juego interesante!

Bueno, eso fue divertido como siempre, pero para mí esta vez, más que cualquiera de las veces anteriores, estaba el pequeño cambio de acordes del riff de cuerdas y teclas que faltaba en el estribillo y que realmente extrañé, y creo que fue fundamental para el canción. ¿Estás de acuerdo?
