Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 160 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for the week is “Fraternity", which roughly translates to “A Brotherhood”.

This makes me think of “Brothers in Arms” by Dire Straits.

My parents have a wonderful taste in music and I grew up listening to Dire Straits (along with many other awesome artists). They are a British rock-band and I actually think Mark Knopfler is under-rated as one of the best guitarists ever. A lot of their music is upbeat rock, but “Brothers in Arms” is a much softer, sadder, song. I hope you watch the original video, because even on this soft slow song, Mark’s guitar licks have a tone that makes you want to cry... even before you acknowledge the lyrics of men sticking together on the battle-field…

Here’s the original:

Lyrics for “Brothers in Arms” by Dire Straits

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be

Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged high

And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die

But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

Algún día volverás a
Tus valles y tus granjas
Y ya no te quemarás
Ser hermanos de armas

A través de estos campos de destrucción
bautismos de fuego
He sido testigo de tu sufrimiento
Mientras la batalla rugía alto

Y aunque me lastimaron tanto
En el miedo y la alarma
no me abandonaste
mis hermanos de armas

Hay tantos mundos diferentes
Tantos soles diferentes

You guys are amazing too! I often wonder exactly which band-member this is who represents you on HIVE?

I'm glad to see you receiving appreciation for your content, Jasper. You're grinding every day, fresh content daily, that type of dedication deserves recognition.

Are you aware your Posts are not featured in your Blog reel? Are you doing that intentionally? Wasn't sure you're aware.

Keep on keepin on.

Thank you so much! Originally I thought I would only feature certain posts on my blog wall, but I suppose I can feature all of mine as well as others I want to reblog?

It's totally up to you dude. I, personally, add all of my content to my own blog but I've seen others who prefer not to and instead separate their reblogs from their personal content.

Totally up to you and to each their own. When people land on my page, I prefer they get an eye full of my own personal content first and then they're free to scroll through anything they want.

You're doing great Jasper, I'll see you around.

I am! When I was young I really, really enjoyed Twisting by the Pool, though these days I'd need to say that my favourites fall along the lines of Lady Writer or the entire second side of Brothers in Arms.

Awesome! I hope people enjoy my little speeches before I start to sing - I like to explain why the song fits the theme.

Nicely done! Dire Straits do some brilliant songs. Romeo and Juliet is my favourite.

It took ages for me to feel comfortable enough with playing and singing... to then be able to rise up and connect to the song with passion and feeling...
