Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town South Africa!

This is Week 138 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge, and the theme for the week is "Magic”.

I was going to play “Every Little Thing she does is Magic” by Sting and the Police, but I have actually tackled it quite recently on another post you can see here: https://ecency.com/hive-193816/@jasperdick/rvxdfxao

So… I thought I would do something that nobody else would do… A song called “Fairy and the ‘Fly”. Nobody else is going to try it, because I am the one that wrote it! Haha!

“Fairy and the ‘Fly” is one of the first songs I ever wrote. It is a fairy tale I wrote and then put to music… It suits the theme “magic” very well as well, because at the end of the story the dragonfly makes the ultimate sacrifice to allow the fairy daughter to perform some magic, and get her wings back… I hope you enjoy the song, even if it is quite a sad story!

**By the way, I am doing a weekly post on Thursdays where I ask for cover song requests in the comments, and then if I attempt your song in the following week's post, you become a beneficary to 50% of the post's rewards in HP. If that sounds interesting, please think of a song you would like me to try and look out for my post on Thursday?

*Let me tell you a story, I wonder if you know
About a fairy family, who lived a long time ago
Father was a rich man, mother was covered in gold
Daughter, she was so gorgeous, her eyes cut deep down in your soul...
A band of trolls came into the forest, on a night that was bitterly cold
They'd heard of the fairy family, they'd heard of all of the gold
That night they sprang into action, that night there was blood to be spilled
Though father, he begged them for mercy, both he and fairy mother were killed...
And as for fairy daughter, the trolls did terrible things
They abandoned her in a swamp, after tearing off both of her wings
With a bleeding back she fainted, she was certain that she would soon die
But she woke up to find herself in the house of a kind dragonfly
Dragonfly said "I'll give you food, and I'll worship you all of my life"
"Fairy daughter you are so pretty, won't you please be my wife?"
"But you're an ugly beast!" said the daughter, "and I don't care for all of your things"
"Never again will I truly be happy, until I have a new pair of wings!"
The next morning she found the 'fly, had hung himself with spider's thread
And through the tears in her eyes fairy daughter saw that her saviour was really dead
He'd left a note explaining how because they'd never exchange any rings
He'd killed himself, now with a knife and a spell, she could help herself to his wings
Well you're my fairy daughter
And I'm your dragonfly
Because you would not love me
I hang my head and I... I cry...

Iba a tocar "Every Little Thing she does is Magic" de Sting y The Police, pero en realidad lo he abordado hace poco en otro post que podéis ver aquí: https://ecency.com/hive-193816/@jasperdick/rvxdfxao

Una canción llamada "Fairy and the 'Fly".

**Letra de "Fairy and the 'Fly" de @jasperdick (original)

Lloro...

Nice performance, Jasper. I think this is the first time I've encountered your music, and I'm glad to begin knowing you. Thanks for sharing your talents with the Hive Open Mic community. It's a whimsical song you're sharing here - surprised me when I heard you sing the word "Trolls," and then I realized what you were singing about. :) Good choice for this week's "Magic" theme. Peace.

Thank you very much!! Yes I try to fit the week's theme as best I can!

Yes! I mean the fairy-tale version of "trolls", rather than the idiots who try to wind people up on the internet!! Hahaha! I actually wrote this song about 15 years ago, before I even heard of Facebook or the new definition of "trolls"!

Wow, my brother, the Cowboy from South Africa 🤠 This song is really magical, it makes me laugh when you say that you are sure that nobody else will sing it hehe. The lyrics and harmony have a perfect sound that envelopes me in an atmosphere of nostalgia and fantasy. Undoubtedly one of the best performances of this edition, bravo!...

Ah my brother! Thank you so much! I really appreciate it and will always try and match my performance up to the theme because that is the whole point! It seems like Week 139 also matches something more original rather than a cover - I will try post a bit later tonight!
