Altered Carbon - Minds equals souls? | Impressions and series review

Hello, living beings! Today I'm going to talk to you about Altered Carbon, a series that I had avoided watching for a simple reason, but when I was told that in the first season I was going to be able to see Joel Kinnaman many times almost naked, I decided to start watching it, and with that very superficial reason, I ended up loving this completely amazing science fiction series.

In this universe of Altered Carbon we are going to meet Takeshi Kovacs, the last Envoy of ancient times, who had been submerged in ice for 250 years, and is brought back to life because a Mat, someone exaggeratedly rich, buys him to solve his own murder.

This series is a crazy thing and they will be explaining it to us in the first chapters, terms like Mat (Millionaires), Stack (Artifact that keeps people's minds and can be changed from sleeves), Sleeves (Bodies of people without batteries that are sold and/or artificially created for sale), and Real Death (It is when the Stack is damaged and it is impossible to recover the person's mind) are going to be overused, so we have to get an idea quickly to not be lost the whole series, and there are many other terms.

Hoy les voy a hablar de Altered Carbon, una serie que había evitado ver por una simple razón, pero cuando me dijeron que en la primera temporada iba a poder ver a Joel Kinnaman muchas veces casi desnudo, decidí comenzar a verla, y con esa razón tan superficial, terminé amando esta serie de ciencia ficción completamente increíble.

En este universo de Altered Carbon vamos a conocer a Takeshi Kovacs, el último Enviado de los tiempos antiguos, el cual llevaba sumergido en hielo por 250 años, y es traído de nuevo a la vida porque un Mat, alguien exageradamente rico, lo compra para que resuelva su propio asesinato.

Esta serie es una cosa loca y nos la van a ir explicando en los primeros capítulos, términos como Mat (Millonarios), Pila (Artefacto que guarda la mente de las personas y que pueden ser cambiadas de fundas), Fundas (Cuerpos de personas sin pilas que son vendidos y/o creados artificialmente para su venta), y Muerte Real (Es cuando la Pila se daña y es imposible recuperar la mente de la persona) van a ser excesivamente usados, por lo que tenemos que hacernos una idea rápido para no estar perdidos toda la serie, y hay muchos otros términos.

This series currently has two seasons, I don't know if there is a possibility of a third one, but please, don't let Anthony Mackie come back, I'll tell you why later, but I almost hated the second season because of him, instead, Joel Kinnaman plays an incredible role-playing Takeshi Kovacs, but Anthony has never convinced me as an actor.

The first season is an exquisite thing of confusion, lies, murder, blood, too much money, and the suffering of those who can barely afford to exist; in this first season the story feels real for real, it has everything you need to keep you entertained and intrigued long enough to finish the whole season and see how the fuck it's all going to end because sometimes the entanglements are so many that you don't know what's going on or who is acting, those entanglements and plot twists are so many at times that they overwhelm and make you want to stop watching the series.

One of the incredible things of the first season is the need that the actors will have to play more than one role because as I said, the Piles can change bodies, and here more than one will have to play several people during the course of the chapters and they will be so surprising that one does not really believe them, but it is so, we will see a murderer playing a tender grandmother, and the worst thing is that you believe it, it's too good to miss it.

Esta serie tienes dos temporadas actualmente, no sé si existe la posivilidad de que salga una tercera, pero por favor, que no vuelva a salir Anthony Mackie, más tarde les digo por qué, pero casi odio por completo la segunda temporada por él, en cambio, Joel Kinnaman hace un papel increíble interpretando a Takeshi Kovacs, pero Anthony nunca me ha convencido como actor.

La primera temporada es una cosa exquisita de confusión, mentiras, asesinatos, sangre, dinero en demasia y el sufrimiento de aquellos que apenas pueden costear su existencia; en este primera temporada la historia se siente real de verdad, tiene todo lo necesario para mantenerte entretenido e intrigado el tiempo suficiente como para terminar la temporada completa y ver cómo carajos va a terminar todo, porque a veces los enredos son tantos que no sabes qué está sucediendo ni quién está actuando, esos enredos y plot twists son tantos a veces que abruman y hacen que uno quiera dejar de ver la serie.

Una de las cosas increíbles de la primera temporada es la necesidad que van a tener los actores de interpretar más de un papel, pues como les dije, las Pilas se pueden cambiar de cuerpo, y aquí más de uno va a tener que hacer de varias personas durante el transcurso de las capítulos y van a ser tan sorprendentes que uno no llega a creerlos de verdad, pero es así, veremos a un asesino hacer de una tierna abuelita, y lo peor es que uno se lo cree, es demasiado bueno como para perdérselo.

Now the second season... It was horrible! At least for me, and I'll give you my reasons; as I already mentioned, Anthony Mackie has never convinced me as an actor, I don't know if it's because he always plays action characters or the eternal bitter face and scowls they make him have, but he never convinces me, and he was a miserable Takeshi Kovacs compared to the one in the first season, and actually, the 10 minutes that Takeshi Kovacs was played by a woman in the first episode was more real than the rest of the series by Anthony.

The story was too forced, you can understand that it connected very well with the end of the first season, but fuck, everything felt forced, the performances, the plot twists, everything, few things were real and I'll tell you what my favorite thing about this whole series, the first and second season at the same time: Edgar Allan Poe.

Yes, there was something I didn't mention and that is that of course, there are Artificial Intelligence, and Takeshi Kovacs in the first season is going to stay in a hotel that is run by an AI that took the name of the father of horror and made it his own, fuck, Poe played by Chris Conner is my favorite thing of the whole series, really, in the first season he does an excellent job, but if it hadn't been for his participation in the second season I wouldn't have seen it, it's a masterful job he does and he became my favorite character of all.

Ahora la segunda temporada... ¡Fue horrible! Al menos para mí, y les daré mis razones; como ya les mencioné, Anthony Mackie nunca me ha convencido como actor, no sé si es por que siempre hace de personajes de acción o la eterna cara amargada y con el seño fruncido que le hacen tener, pero nunca me convence, y fue un miserable Takeshi Kovacs en comparación con el de la primera temporada, y en realidad, los 10 minucos que Takeshi Kovacs fue interpretado por una mujer en el primer capítulo fue más real que el resto de la serie por Anthony.

La historia fue demasiado forzada, se entiende que conecte muy bien con el final de la primera temporada, pero joder, todo se sentió obligado, las actuaciones, los plot twists, todo, pocas cosas fueron reales y les diré cuál es mi cosa favorita de toda esta serie, la primera y segunda temporada a la vez: Edgar Allan Poe.

Sí, hubo algo que no les mencioné y es que claro está, existen las Inteligencias Artificiales, y Takeshi Kovacs en la primera temporada se va a quedar en un hotel que es dirigido por una IA que tomó el nombre del padre del terror y lo hizo suyo, joder, Poe interpretado por Chris Conner es mi cosa favorita de toda la serie, de verdad, en la primera temporada hace un trabajo excelente, pero si no hubiera sido por su participación en la segunda temporada nola hubiera visto, es un trabajo maestro el que hace y se convifrtió en mi personaje favorito de todos.

The eternal life or at least the existence beyond what our bodies can provide us has always tempted me and the possibility that we are given here of being able to save our minds in devices that can be implanted in new bodies is incredible, but this is when questions arise that still have no answer.

Do our souls remain the same when our minds are transferred many times over the years, are our souls the same or are they linked to our minds? We do not know and perhaps we will never know, but in the meantime, we can only theorize and hope that some of them will become true with the passing of time.

Vamos a encontrar personajes buenos y malos, que actuan bien y mal, y que se terminan convirtiendo en buenos y malos, mi favorito es Poe, y el que menos me gustó fue el Takeshi Kovacs de Anthony Mackie, aunque igual si ustedes la ven posiblemente les guste, porque conmigo él no tiene ninguna salvación en ninguna de las películas o series donde lo he visto.

La vida eterna, o al menos la existencia más allá de lo que nuestros cuerpos nos puedan proporcionar siempre me ha tentado y la posibilidad que nos dan aquí de poder guardar nuestras mentes en dispositivos que pueden ser implantados en cuerpos nuevos es increíble, pero aquí es cuándo surgen interrogantes que todavía no tienen respuesta.

¿Nuestras almas siguen siendo los mismas cuando nuestra mente es transferida muchas veces a lo largo de los años?, ¿nuestras almas son iguales o están ligadas a nuestras mentes? No se sabe y quizás nunca se sepa, pero mientras tanto solo se puede llegar a teorizar y esperar que alguna de llegue a ser verdad con el paso del tiempo.
