Skins - Generation 1 | Oh... Wow... Lovely...

I am about to finish the seventh season of Skins and I decided to start writing about the series because knowing me, when I finish watching it I will start watching something else and I will never write about the series. About 6 or 7 years ago was when I watched Skins for the first time, and just like in the past, I love the series and it still surprises me for all the topics it dealt with so early in the 21st century, especially because it was aimed at teenagers, and as it happens to Euphoria nowadays, the same thing happened to Skins, the general public focused on all the bad stuff making the good stuff stop standing out, mostly because of the bad approach it was given.

Skins is nothing more than a series where the main characters are teenagers, adults have little presence, and teenagers do whatever they want exploring their sexuality, consuming legal and illegal drugs, wanting to find love, trying to find meaning in their lives, all that and more in the Russian roulette that is life with its ups and downs.

In retrospect and objectively the series does not call my attention, it never called my attention when it was recommended to me, but the social pressure was so great that I started watching it and I did not stop until I saw the whole thing. In this opportunity I am going to talk only about the First Generation, many say that it is the best generation and that the fact that it was extended only made it worse over time because it evolved and was no longer the same.

Estoy a punto de termimar la séptima temporada de Skins y decidí comenzar a escribir sobre la serie, porque conociéndome, al terminar de verla comenzaré a ver otra cosa y nunca escribiré sobre la serie. Hace unos 6 o 7 años fue cuando vi Skins por primera vez, y al igual que en el pasado, la serie me encanta y me sigue sorprendiendo por todos los temas que trató tan pronto en el siglo XXI, sobre todo porque era dirigida a adolescentes, y como le pasa a Euphoria actualmente, lo mismo le pasó a Skins, el público en general se enfocó en todo lo malo haciendo que lo bueno dejara de sobresalir, sobre todo por el mal enfoque que se le daba.

Skins no es más que una serie donde los protagonistas son adolescentes, los adultos tienen poca presencia, y los adolescentes hacen lo que se les da la gana explorando su sexualidad, consumiento drogas legales e ilegales, queriendo encontrar el amor, tratando de buscarle el significado a sus vidas, todo eso y más en la ruleta rusa que es la vida con sus altos y bajos.

En retrospectiva y objetivamente la serie no llama la atención, a mí nunca me llamó la atención cuando me la recomendaron, pero la presión social fue tanta que comencé a verla y no paré hasta que la vi completa. En esta oportunidad les voy a hablar solo de la Primera Generación, muchos dicen que es la mejor generación, y que el hecho de que la alargaran solo la hizo empeorar con el tiempo por el hecho de que evolucionó y ya no era lo mismo.

In this generation, we will have Tony, Sid, Michelle, Cassie, Chriss, Jal, Anwar, Maxxie, Sketch, and an Effy who although she belongs to the Second Generation, appears in this one. Every season has a character that I dislike, well, I specifically dislike certain types of characters, and the rest of the people dislike the rest for useless things that have more to do with them than with the characters themselves. Tony is the character that I dislike in the first generation, he is an egocentric and narcissistic person who because of his boredom decides to do whatever he wants with the people around him just to cause drama and chaos to cheer up his relationships and social interactions, the chaos despite everything always makes sense and order, that's why I dislike Tony, his chaos is insensitive and only hurts the people around him, and that's why I love the end of the first season.

Tony is the only character of the first generation that objectively I dislike, the rest on the contrary I like them very much, well, except Sketch, when they included her in the second season was something so creepy that I hated her completely, her mere existence in the group destabilized me completely and it was something that I did not understand no matter how hard I tried, so I ended up accepting that this is how people are, they accept people even if they have hurt the people you love the most.

En esta generación tendremos a Tony, Sid, Michelle, Cassie, Chriss, Jal, Anwar, Maxxie, Sketch, y una Effy que aunque pertenece a la Segunda Generación, aparece en esta. Cada generación tiene dos temporadas, por lo que son seis temporadas teniendo en cuenta que son tres generaciones, y la séptima temporada es algo exquisito de lo les hablaré cuando le llegue el momento.

Todas las temporadas tienen un personaje que cae mal, bueno, a mí en específico me caen mal cierto tipo de personajes, y al resto de gente le caen mal el resto por cosas inútiles y que tienen más que ver con ellos que con los personajes en sí. Tony es el personaje que me cae mal en la primera generación, es una persona egocéntrica y narcisista que a causa de su aburrimiento decide hacer lo que se le da la gana con las personas a su alrededor solo para causar dramas y caos que animen un poco sus relaciones e interacciones sociales, el caos a pesar de todo siempre tiene sentido y orden, por eso me cae mal Tony, su caos es insensible y solo daña a la gente a su alrededor, y por eso es que amo el final de la primera temporada.

Tony es el único personaje de la primera generación que objetivamente me cae mal, el resto por el contrario me caen muy bien, bueno, menos Sketch, cuando la incluyeron en la segunda temporada fue algo tan creepy que la detesté por completo, su mera existencia en el grupo me destabilizaba por completo y era algo que no entendía por mas que intentara, así que terminé aceptando que así son las personas, aceptan a la gente aunque le haya hecho daño a las personas que más quieres.

I think at least every 5 minutes I was thinking, why don't these people go to psychological therapy so they can try to get fixed? then I met Cassie, then I met the mental institution where she was, and I understood that nobody better go see any psychologist or psychiatrist if those were the examples that were out there, examples that are not far from reality, and that's why mental health has so many stigmas and prejudices to eradicate.

Cassie is my favorite character of the entire first generation, of the entire series in general, and I could easily make a whole post saying why, but obviously, I'm not going to do that, so I'll just say that I love her for how real she is, how pure she is, and it's something that is confirmed to me in season seven, and for that alone, I love her more and more each time.

Yes, it was completely irrational what she did at the end of the second season, but if you don't understand it's because you lack a minimum of sympathy, and empathy, for putting yourself in someone else's shoes and even trying to understand why her actions. I cry too much in that episode, too much, not only because of the death that takes place but also because of what Cassie does, it destroys me and it's not something I could ever imagine doing.

Creo que al menos cada 5 minutos pensaba, ¿y por qué esta gente no va a terapia psicológica para que se intenten arreglar?, entonces conocí a Cassie, después conocí la institución mental donde estaba, y entendí que era mejor que nadie fuera a verse con ningún psicólogo o psiquiatra si esos eran los ejemplos que habían, ejemplos que no distan mucho de la realidad, y que por eso es que la salud mental tiene tantos estigmas y prejuicios por erradicar.

Cassie es mi personaje favorito de toda la primera generación, de toda la serie en general, y facilmente podría hacer una publicación entera diciendo el por qué, pero obviamente no voy a hacer eso, así que solo diré que la amo por lo real que es, lo pura que es, y es algo que me confirman en la séptima temporada, y solo por eso la amo más cada vez más.

Sí, fue completamente irracional lo que hizo al final de la segunda temporada, pero si no lo entienden es porque les hace falta un mínimo de simpatía, empatía, de ponerse en el lugar de alguien más y siquiera tratar de entender el por qué de sus acciones. Yo lloro demasiado en ese capítulo, demasiado, no solo por la muerte que tiene lugar, si no también por lo que hace Cassie, me destruye por completo y no es algo que podría llegar a imaginar hacer.

I still like Skins, a lot, but differently, now I like it because of the different realities they show, the different ways of being and developing being a teenager, while there are too many stereotypes in all the generations, those same stereotypes are slowly unraveling and that's one of the many things why Skins is worth watching.

The first generation is the most disastrous of them all, and even if the second generation puts that in doubt, it is so, in the first generation the chaos made sense, it had fun, it had a reason for being, even if Tony sucked, but in the second generation there are too many things wrong, and although it is very good, much, much better than the first generation, it is not the same, and you have to think about it too much to be able to understand it.

With each generation that passes the series became something very different, but the third generation with the first generation and beat it by millennia, although the world hates the third generation I love it, and I hope very much to make that publication. En la cuarta publicación cuando hable de la séptima temporada es que les diré por qué les recomiendo esta serie, así que se aguantan y esperan a que llegué allá, al final todo tiene sentido, así que no se preocupen. He estado viendo de nuevo muchas cosas que vi en el pasado y que me gustaron solo para descubrir si me gustan de verdad o solo era un gusto pasajero que ya no tengo más. Skins me sigue gustando, mucho, pero de una forma diferente, ahora me gusta por las diferentes realidades que muestran, las disferentes formas de ser y de desarrollarse siendo adolescente, si bien hay demasiados estereotipos en todas las generaciones, esos mismos estereotipos se van deshaciendo poco a poco y es una de las muchas cosas por las que vale la pena ver Skins.

La primera generación es la más desastroza de todas, y aunque la segunda generación ponga eso en duda, es así, en la primera generación el caos tenía sentido, tenía diversión, tenía una razón de ser, aunque Tony fuera una mierda, pero en la segunda generación hay demasiadas cosas mal, y aunque es muy buena, muchísimo, mejor que la primera generación, no es igual, y hay que pensarlo demasiado para poder entenderlo.

Con cada generación que pasa la serie se fue convirtiendo en algo muy diferente, pongo a la tercera generación con la primera generación y le ganan por milenios, aunque el mundo odie a la tercera generación yo la amo, y espero mucho hacer esa publicación.
