The Office (US) | Where are gay men's vaginas?

_{Before I say anything else, I'll tell you that I'm going to talk about this series using relatively new standards, or that very few people even got to consider when the series was on the air.}

I started watching The Office with the promise that I would be watching one of the best comedy series made by human beings, ha. Instead of laughing, I think I developed a stomach ulcer that kills me from time to time for all the discomfort it put me through. Only Ricky Gervais in After Life made me so angry that I couldn't watch more than just the first episode of that series, but here Steve Carell as Michael Scott has made one of the characters I have despised the most in my entire existence, you don't know the depth of hatred I have for the character, it's not a simple I dislike him, no, his suffering was the only thing that gave me pleasure from the series, it was almost the only thing that motivated me to keep watching it was horrible, it's horrible, and although I will try not to just talk about my contempt for Michael Scott, it's going to be something very recurrent here. Yes, this series was made for a different generation, but still, it has more bad things than good, and being an extremist, it worries me that people like it so much and defend Michael too much when he is one of the worst types of person that can exist.

The Office (US) is a documentary about a branch of a company that sells paper, Dunder Mifflin, this branch is the one in Scranton, and is under the management of Michael Scott, who according to is in control of making sure that paper is sold and everything is in order when the reality is different and thanks to this documentary that follows his workers 24/7 is that we will find out everything that happens both in their private lives and in the company. Michael is the manager who will be in charge of everyone there, we have Pam, who is the secretary, we have the sales team made up of Jim, Dwight, Phyllis, and Stanley; we have the accounting team made up of Angela, Oscar, and Kevin; we have Toby as part of the Human Resources team; Ryan is the intern who will change job positions many times; and I don't remember what the fuck Creed and Kelly were doing, but they were doing something, I come to say that almost finishing this review was that I remembered Meredith, sorry, there are many other characters that I am not going to mention. All these people will be part of the family of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin, and if you know what they say about the workplaces that call themselves family, you have a little idea of the hell we will get into when watching this series.

Comencé a ver The Office con la promesa de que vería una de las mejores series de comedia hechas por los seres humanos, ja. En vez de reírme creo que desarrollé una úlcera estomacal que me mata de vez en cuando por todas las molestias que me hizo pasar. Solo Ricky Gervais en After Life me hizo enojar tanto que no pude ver más que solo el primer capítulo de esa serie, pero aquí Steve Carell como Michael Scott ha hecho uno de los personajes que más he despreciado en toda mi existencia, no saben la profundidad del odio que le tengo al personaje, no es un simple me cae mal, no, su sufrimiento era lo único que me daba placer de la serie, era casi lo único que me motivaba a seguir viéndola fue horrible, es horrible, y aunque trataré de no solo hablar de mi desprecio hacia Michael Scott, va a ser algo muy recurrente aquí. Sí, esta serie fue hecha para una generación diferente, pero igual, tiene más cosas malas que buenas, y siendo extremista, me preocupa mucho que a la gente le guste tanto y que defiendan demasiado a Michael cuando es uno de los peores tipos de persona que pueden existir.

Michael es el gerente que estará a cargo de todos ahí, tenemos a Pam, que es la secretaria, tenemos al equipo de ventas conformado por Jim, Dwight, Phyllis, y Stanley; tenemos al equipo de contaduría conformado por Angela, Oscar, y Kevin; Tenemos a Toby como parte del equipo de Recursos Humanos; Ryan es el pasante que cambiará de posición de trabajo muchas veces; y ya no recuerdo que carajos hacían Creed y Kelly, pero algo hacían, vengo a decir que casi terminando esta reseña fue que me acordé de Meredith, lo siento, igual hay muchos otros personajes que no voy a mencionar. Todas esas personas formarán parte de la familia de la sucursal de Scranton de Dunder Mifflin, y si ya saben lo que dicen sobre los lugares de trabajos que se autodenominan como familia, tienen una pequeña idea del infierno en el que nos adentraremos al ver esta serie.

The first season is unbearable, almost everyone recommends not to watch it because of how intense it is and how unbearable the characters are, this is because it is very similar to the original UK, then in the second season is that it takes its course with the American humor that we know so well. From the second season until the seventh season, we will see the characters in an almost static version where they are not given almost any kind of development because only a maximum of 5 chapters per season that we will see some evolution in the characters. Until we get to seasons 8 and 9, being this one where we will see a constant and positive evolution in most of the characters, ending with one of the best final chapters ever created for a comedy series with as many bad things as examples, besides being normalized as harmless, full of grace, and goodness.

Before I start insulting Michael I have to describe to you the type of person he is and the risk that comes with him existing and being applauded for everything he does. I don't know if you have ever heard it, but there is a saying that goes like this: The road to hell is paved with good intentions. That saying describes Michael perfectly, for he is a person who has no idea that almost all of his actions, no matter how good his intentions, end up causing more harm than an omission would have done; is a person who believes he has the right to say the first thought that comes to his mind and that others have to laugh, applaud him, but never criticize him or contradict him; is a person who constantly gives his opinion about other people's bodies, other people's lives, the way they dress, what they eat, what they do, what they don't do, what they don't do; he is a person who is happy to make jokes at the expense of other people's insecurities, but hates it when they do the same to him; he is a narcissistic, selfish person who wants to be friends with everyone, but does not want to take into consideration the limits that exist in interpersonal relationships; Michael is the perfect kind of good man who can make a sexist comment to you that is completely out of place, but because he is a good man you have to let him do it, because he is a good man and he does not mean any harm. Do you get my point now? Taking it to extremes, I know many good men who may have anger issues, verbally abuse their partners and even be able of raping someone excusing themselves behind alcohol, but since they are good men it is wrong to tell them what is wrong with them as people. Simply defending Michael by saying he is just a kid who wants to have a lot of friends, taking weight away from all the wrong and tasteless things he does and says, is defending all the good men who do much worse things, but once they started to like Michael by making a sexist comment, invading people's personal space, turning a deaf ear to what they are told, laughing at all the bad deeds he does.

I have my own Michael, I have a brother who thinks he is the greatest comedian in the world, a brother who never tires of talking, criticizing, and embarrassing people around him with his constant inappropriate comments, so that is the first reason why he hates Michael so much, why I despise my brother so much, and my brother knows it, once I did the same thing to him, I made a fool of him in front of many people telling him that the attitude he had and what he was doing were things of a 4-year-old, and our mother agreed with me, you don't know the satisfaction it gave me to see him as a scolded 4-year-old who can't do what he wants. From that day on he started to limit his interactions with me to just hellos and goodbyes, and since then the peace in me has grown more and more. If you have your version of Michael, get them out of your life as soon as possible, it will be one of the best things you can do for your well-being.

La primera temporada es infumable, casi todo el mundo recomienda no verla por lo intensa que es y lo insoportable que son los personajes, esto es debido a que es muy parecida a la original de UK, entonces en la segunda temporada es que toma su propio rumbo con el humor norteamericano que tan bien conocemos. Desde la segunda temporada hasta la séptima temporada veremos a los personajes en una versión casi estática donde no se les da casi ningún tipo de desarrollo alguno, pues solo un máximo de 5 capítulos por cada temporada es que veremos algún tipo de evolución en los personajes. Hasta que llegamos a las temporadas 8 y 9, siendo esta donde veremos una evolución constante y positiva en la mayoría de los personajes, terminando con uno de los mejores capítulos finales jamás creados para una serie de comedia con tantas cosas malas como ejemplos, además de ser normalizadas como inofensivas, llenas de gracia, y bondad.

Antes de ponerme a insultar a Michael tengo que describirles el tipo de persona que es y el riesgo que conlleva que existan y se les aplauda todo lo que hagan. No sé si lo hayan escuchado alguna vez, pero hay un dicho que dice así: El camino al infierno está empedrado de buenas intenciones. Ese dicho describe perfectamente a Michael, pues es una persona que no tiene ni la remota idea de que casi todas sus acciones, por muy buenas intenciones que tenga, terminan causando más daño del que una omisión hubiera hecho; es una persona que cree tener el derecho de decir el primer pensamiento que se le venga a la mente y que los demás tienen que reírse, aplaudirlo, pero nunca criticarlo o llevarle la contraria; es una persona que opina constantemente sobre los cuerpos de los demás, las vidas de los demás, de su forma de vestir, de lo que comen, de lo que hacen, de lo que no hacen; es una persona es feliz haciendo chistes a costa de las inseguridades de los demás, pero odia cuando le hacen lo mismo a él; es una persona narcisista, egoísta, que quiere ser amigo de todas las personas, pero que no quiere tener en consideración los límites que existen en las relaciones interpersonales; Michael es el perfecto tipo de buen hombre que te puede hacer un comentario sexista que está completamente fuera de lugar, pero como es un buen hombre hay que dejar que lo haga, porque es un buen hombre y no es su intención hacer daño. ¿Entienden ahora mi punto? Llevándolo a extremos, conozco a muchos buenos hombres que pueden tener problemas de ira, abusar verbalmente de sus parejas, incluso capaces de violar a alguien excusándose detrás del alcohol, pero como son buenos hombres está mal decirles lo que está mal con ellos como personas. Simplemente defendiendo a Michael diciendo que es tan solo un niño que quiere tener muchos amigos, quitándole peso a todas las cosas incorrectas y de mal gusto que hace y dice, se está defendiendo a todos los buenos hombres que hacen cosas mucho peores, pero una vez comenzaron como Michael haciendo un comentario sexista, invadiendo el espacio personal de la gente, haciendo oídos sordos a lo que se les dice, riéndole todas las malas acciones que lleva a cabo.

Yo tengo a mi propio Michael, tengo un hermano que se cree e mayor comediante del mundo, un hermano que no se cansa de hablar, de criticar, de avergonzar a las personas a su alrededor con sus constantes comentarios inapropiados, así que esa es la primera razón por la cual odia tanto a Michael, por la cual desprecio tanto a mi hermano, y mi hermano lo sabe, una vez le hice lo mismo, lo dejé en ridículo frente a mucha gente diciéndole que la actitud que tenía y lo que estaba haciendo eran cosas de un niño de 4 años, y nuestra madre me dio la razón a mí, no saben la satisfacción que me dio verlo como el propio niño de 4 años regañado que no puede hacer lo que le da a gana. Si ustedes tienen a su propia versión de Michael, sáquenlas lo más pronto de sus vidas, será una de las mejores cosas que podrán hacer por su propio bienestar.

Considering that the series ended in 2013 and that it gave and still gives a lot of material for memes, I already knew most of the things that were going to happen, so at first, I kept watching the series just to know how Jim and Pam's love story was going to end, but already in the fourth season, it became very clear to me that the reason why I kept watching the series was to see how Michael humiliated himself every time and always found an innovative way to make a fool of himself and embarrass himself completely. The misery of Michael Scott's life was the only thing that gave me pleasure, yes, I am a very miserable person for rejoicing in the suffering of others, but I won't deny it, I am, during one of the episodes Michael proposes to have a Roast for all the people in the office to say everything they have to say about Michael so they can unburden themselves and according to, be able to continue working efficiently. At the end of the Roast Michael ended up crying, and I ended up being one of the happiest people in the world. I went to look up the roast on youtube just to get back that satisfaction of watching truth after truth being told to Michael. The roast that affected me the most was Meredith's, I mean, she says: Michael, you ran me over with your car. You're the reason I drink, you're the reason I live to forget. I cried when Meredith finished saying that, how good is a person who provokes those feelings in someone? There are a lot of things wrong with us as a society if they say Michael is a good person.

One of my favorite scenes is 'Did I Stutter?'. Stanley is one of the most balanced characters in the series, you know who he is, you know what he does, and you know his mood perpetually, so you don't have to try to be funny with him because you'll end up regretting you were born, and it's something that happens in this scene I'll leave you the link here. I'm going to describe above what happens for those of you who are not going to see it. After insulting Pam and calling her ugly for wearing glasses, Michael decides to have a meeting in the conference room looking for a way to energize the office, in that brainstorming they end up with the idea of doing a kind of rap, and Michael gives a perfect demonstration of the bad person he is, asks Stanley to do that rap, just because he is the black guy in the office, Stanley says no, Michael insists, Stanley says no again, Michael insists again, and at that moment Stanley loses his posture and yells at him if he stuttered, the room goes silent, everyone makes a pitiful face, Michael walks out of the conference room embarrassed pretending nothing happened, and my favorite part is seeing Oscar, the gay Mexican in the office, smiling while the rest of the white people in the office look at Stanley with concern. You don't know the satisfaction that scene gives me, at that moment Stanley became one of my favorite characters, anyone who insults Michael, tells him his truths, embarrasses him, and makes him look bad in front of many people is my favorite person in life.

Teniendo en cuenta que la serie terminó en el 2013, y que dio y sigue dando mucho material para memes, yo ya sabía gran parte de las cosas que iban a suceder, así que en un principio seguí viendo la serie solo para saber cómo iba a terminar la historia de amor de Jim y Pam, pero ya en la cuarta temporada se me hizo muy claro que la razón por la que de verdad seguía viendo la serie era para ver cómo Michael se humillaba cada vez y siempre encontraba una forma innovadora de dejarse en ridículo y avergonzarse por completo. La miseria de la vida de Michael Scott era lo único que me generaba placer, sí, soy una persona muy miserable por regocijarme con el sufrimiento de los demás, pero no lo niego, lo soy, durante uno de los episodios Michael propone que se le haga un Roast para que todas las personas de la oficina digan todo lo que tengan que decir sobre Michael y así puedan desahogarse y según, poder seguir trabajando eficientemente. Al final del Roast Michael terminó llorando, y yo terminé siendo una de las personas más felices del mundo. Fui a buscar el roast en youtube solo para volver a sentir esa satisfacción de ver cómo le dicen verdad tras verdad a Michael. El roast que más me afectó fue el de Meredith, o sea, ella dice: Michael, me atropellaste con tu carro. Tú eres la razón por la cual bebo, tú eres la razón por la cual vivo para olvidar. Lloré cuando Meredith terminó de decir eso, ¿qué tan buena es una persona que provoca esos sentimientos en alguien? Hay muchas cosas mal en nosotros como una sociedad si dicen que Michael es una buena persona.

Una de mis escenas favoritas es 'Did I Stutter?'. Stanley es uno de los personajes más balanceados de la serie, se sabe quién es, se sabe lo que hace, se sabe su estado de humor perpetuamente, así que no hay que tratar de hacerse el gracioso con él porque van a terminar arrepintiéndose de haber nacido, y es algo que sucede en esta escena, es más, les dejaré el enlace aquí. Voy a describir por encima lo que sucede para quienes no vayan a verla. Después de insultar a Pam y decirle fea por usar lentes, Michael decide hacer una reunión en la sala de conferencias buscando una forma de energizar a la oficina, en esa lluvia de ideas terminan con la idea de hacer una especie de rap, y Michael dando una perfecta demostración de la mala persona que es, le pide a Stanley que haga ese rap, solo porque es el negro de la oficina, Stanley le dice que no, Michael insiste, Stanley vuelve a decir que no, Michael vuelve a insistir, y en ese momento Stanley pierde su postura y le grita si acaso él tartamudeó, la sala queda en silencio, todo el mundo pone una cara de pena, Michael sale de la sala de conferencias avergonzado haciendo como si nada hubiera pasado, y mi parte favorita es ver a Oscar, el mexicano gay de la oficina, sonriendo mientras el resto de blancos de la oficina ven con preocupación a Stanley. No saben la satisfacción que me da esa escena, en ese momento Stanley pasó a ser uno de mis personajes favoritos, cualquiera que insulte a Michael, le diga sus verdades, lo avergüence y lo deje mal delante de muchas personas es mi persona favorita en la vida.

I already said that Oscar is the gay Mexican in the office, so I must say this yes or yes. One of the chapters I hated the most in my life is when Michael brings Oscar out of the closet in front of the whole office and tells everyone that Oscar is gay, making that day one of the worst days in Oscar's life, and mine too. Michael as he is trying to make Oscar feel welcome and accepted in the office for being gay while making it all about himself tries to let Oscar know that he is not homophobic, and instead of just apologizing and being a normal person, he ends up making everything worse and worse than it already is, in a scene that regardless of it being improvised, was one of the most disgusting and repulsive I have ever seen. Oscar is the one who ends up apologizing, and Michael again gets out of a completely inappropriate situation unscathed just because he tries to make things right even though everything he does is wrong. In that chapter, my hatred for Michael grew roots that will never be able to be pulled out of my soul.

All the characters are flawed, there are even several that can become worse people than Michael, but they are not defended and they do recognize that they are bad, so no, they are not worth mentioning to me. Jim at some point we will dislike him, very badly, Dwight will win our hearts despite how much of an idiot he can be, Dwight is also indefensible, but as he has his character develops in the last seasons nothing happens, even if everything happens. Toby is my favorite character, I love him forever, I would be a version of Toby, that's why I like him so much, I think he's one of the few characters that are objectively good and don't do bad things, at least from what I remember, but it's The Office, I'm sure at some point he did something bad and I forgot if he did tell me.

I'm not going to leave you a trailer to go watch it, no, instead I'm going to leave you this scene where Michael faces the consequences of his actions, and this is something that happened very little during the series, Michael always got away with it, but not this time, this time Pam did justice to all of us who have had to live with a version of Michael, and I dislike that they cut Toby while he teaches Pam about how to give a good punch, it's the best part. I think that was the only bad thing Toby did during the series, teaching Pam how to punch just because she was going to punch Michael. And for the hurt people coming to say that Michael also had good selfless moments where he did good things for others, I will tell you that yes, I know, but I don't care, the constant insults he said to Pam are not going to be erased just because he was the only person who went to her art show, do they have such poor judgment and personal respect for you as to forgive years of abuse just because of one good deed?

For those of you who don't understand my title, here is the scene where Dwight and Angela ask Toby many questions about homosexuality, one of them being, where are the gay men's vaginas. That scene made me laugh, so much so that I had to make it part of my title.

Ya dije que Oscar es el mexicano gay de la oficina, así que debo decir esto sí o sí. Uno de los capítulos que más odié con mi vida es cuando Michael saca del closet a Oscar en frente de toda la oficina y le dice a todo el mundo que Oscar es gay, haciendo ese día uno de los peores días en la vida de Oscar, y de la mí también. Michael según está tratando de hacer sentir bienvenido y aceptado a Oscar en la oficina por ser gay, mientras hace que todo sea sobre el mismo, trata de hacerle saber a Oscar que él no es homofóbico, y en vez de solo disculparse y ya como una persona normal, termina volviendo todo cada vez peor de la que ya es, en una escena que sin importar que haya sido improvisada, ha sido una de las más asquerosas y repulsivas que he visto. Oscar es quien se termina disculpando, Michael de nuevo sale ileso de una situación completamente inapropiada solo porque intenta hacer las cosas bien, aunque todo lo que haga sea incorrecto. En ese capítulo a mi odio hacia Michael le crecieron raíces que nunca serán posibles de arrancar de mi alma.

Todos los personajes son imperfectos, incluso hay varios que pueden llegar a ser peores personas que Michael, pero a ellos no los defienden y sí reconocen que son malos, así que no, no son dignos de mencionar para mí. Jim en algún momento nos caerá mal, muy mal, Dwight se ganará nuestro corazón a pesar de lo idiota que puede llegar a ser, Dwight también es indefendible, pero como tiene su desarrollo de personaje en las últimas temporadas no pasa nada, aunque pase de todo. Toby es mi personaje favorito, lo amo por siempre, yo sería una versión de Toby, por eso es que me cae tan bien, creo que es de los pocos personajes que son objetivamente buenos y que no hacen cosas malas, al menos según lo que recuerdo, pero es The Office, seguro en algún momento hizo algo malo y lo olvidé, si lo hizo díganmelo.

No les voy a dejar un tráiler para que vayan a verlo, no, en cambio les voy a dejar este escena donde Michael enfrenta las consecuencias de sus actos, y esto es algo que sucedió muy poco durante la serie, Michael siempre se salía con la suya, pero no en esta oportunidad, esta vez Pam nos hizo justicia a todas las personas que hemos tenido que convivir con una versión de Michael, y me cae mal que cortaran a Toby mientras le enseña a Pam sobre cómo dar un buen puñetazo, es la mejor parte. Creo que eso fue lo único malo que hizo Toby durante la serie, enseñarle a Pam cómo golpear solo porque ella iba a golpear a Michael. Y para los dolidos que vengan a decir que Michael también tuvo buenos momentos desinteresados donde hizo cosas buenas por los demás, les diré que sí, lo sé, pero no me importa, los constantes insultos que le dijo a Pam no se van a borrar solo porque él haya sido la única persona que fue a su muestra de arte, ¿tan poco criterio y respeto personal tienen hacia ustedes como para perdonar años de abuso solo por una buena acción?

Para quienes no entiendan mi título, aquí les dejo la escena donde Dwight junto a Angela le preguntan a Toby muchas cosas relacionadas sobre la homosexualidad, siendo una de esas, dónde están las vaginas de los hombres gays. Esa escena sí me dio risa, tanto así que la tuve que hacer parte de mi título.
