The VVitch | Black Phillip is the cutest

I have just lost my hunger starting to write this review, but it didn't matter, because I hadn't finished writing this sentence when I was already eating. Watching The VVitch again after almost 5 years since the first time I saw it was a unique experience, it doesn't always happen to me when I watch movies again after certain years, but with this movie I felt again in my safe place as soon as it started, I don't know how to describe the feeling of comfort I had all the time, but it never left me, it just grew and grew the more I enjoyed the movie again, and for the first time, as if it wasn't the first time, this last I'll explain later.

This movie is simple, it didn't need a complicated plot, a far-fetched plot to achieve its task which is to amaze the audience. A family is expelled from a village when they are accused of practicing witchcraft, from there everything starts to go from bad to worse, tormented by unknown forces that lead them by the hand down the path of madness, despair, and hopelessness. This movie is a compilation of many folk tales about New England witches, that's why I love it, they managed to make something powerful and incredible out of simple folk tales, few people can achieve that.

Se me acaba de quitar hasta el hambre con el solo hecho de estar comenzando a escribir esta reseña, pero no importó, porque no había terminado de escribir esta oración cuando ya estaba comiendo. Volver a ver The VVitch tras casi 5 años desde la primera vez que a vi fue una experiencia única, no me pasa siempre cuando vuelvo a ver películas después de ciertos años, pero con esta película volví a sentirme en mi lugar seguro apenas comenzó, no sé cómo describir sensación de comodidad que tuve todo el tiempo, pero nunca me abandonó, solo crecía y crecía mientras más disfrutaba la película de nuevo, y por primera vez, como si no fuera la primera vez, esto último lo explico después.

Esta película es sencilla, no necesitó de una trama complicada, un argumento rebuscado para lograr su cometido que es maravillar al público. Una familia es expulsada de un pueblo cuando se les acusa de que practican brujería, a partir de ahí todo comienza a irles de mal en peor, atormentados por fuerzas desconocidas que los llevan de la mano por el camino de la locura, la desesperación, y la desesperanza. Esta película es un compilado de muchas historias populares sobre brujas de Nueva Inglaterra, por eso me encanta, lograron hacer algo poderoso e increíble de cuentos populares simplesy sencillos, pocas personas pueden lograr eso.

The VVitch is Robert Eggers' first film and I love him. It's the first film I saw of his because it's the first film he made, but it was also the first film where I learned about Anya Taylor-Joy, where I saw her, fell in love with her, and still love her no matter how much time passes. I've always loved horror movies, it's the genre that raised me, and The VVitch was by far a breath of fresh air in a franchise of movies where everything is practically more of the same and innovation only exists in creating new monsters, using more blood, and making movies darker and darker, only to put more unnecessary, boring and predictable scarejumps.

For years I recommended this movie saying that it wasn't very scary, that it was more suspenseful, that there were no strong horror scenes, so there wasn't much to be afraid of. As I watched it again I laughed because I was realizing the huge mistake I was making, of course, The VVitch has strong horror scenes, of course, it is scary, the suspense is suffocating and you don't know when things will go down in intensity so you can calm down and breathe, because when you do you are grabbed by the throat again to suffocate and kill you; at least it is like that for the rest of the world, this movie for me was a bedtime story and made me sleep happy because I fell in love with the movie again.

The VVitch es la primera película de Robert Eggers y le amo. Obviamente es la primera película que vi de él, porque es la primera que hizo, pero también fue la primera película donde me enteré de la existencia de Anya Taylor-Joy, donde la vi, me enamoré y la sigo amando sin importa cuánto tiempo pase. Siemprehe amado las películas de terror, es el género que me crió, y The VVitch fue por mucho una bocanada de aire fresco en una franquisia de películas donde todo prácticamente es más de lo mismo y la innovación solo existe en crear nuevos monstruos, usar más sangre, y volver cada vez más oscuras las películas, solo para poner más scarejumps innecesarios, aburridos y predecibles.

Por años yo recomendaba esta película diciendo que no era de mucho terror, que era más el suspenso lo presente, que no había escenas muy fuertes de terror, por lo que no había mucho a lo que tenerle miedo. Mientras la volvía a ver me reía porque me estaba dando cuenta de la gigante equivocación que estaba cometiendo, claro que The VVitch tiene escenas de terror fuerte, claro que da miedo, el suspenso es asfixiante y no sabes cuando realmente las cosas van a bajar de intensidad para poder calmarte y respirar, pues cuando lo haces te vuelven a agarrar de la garganta para asfixiarte y matarte; al menos es así para el resto del mundo, esta película para mí fue un cuento de cuna y me hizo dormir feliz, pues me volvía a enamorar de la película.

Religion for me is a burden that humanity must get rid of, that's something I almost always think about, watching this movie I thought about it many times and the same movie confirmed it to me. I am not talking about not believing in any god, about becoming atheists, about denying their feelings and beliefs, no, some limits must be set, limits that must not be crossed, and in this movie are the simplest but dangerous examples that still exist today. How do you think it is healthy to tell a child who was born a sinner, that those who are not baptized will go to hell to die, and that you should only live under the word of some god who only wants you to humble yourself to be able to enter his kingdom in heaven? Crazy people.

This has nothing to do with this, but I swear I will manage to explain the relationship that exists. It is said a lot that bullying does not exist, or that it exists only to make children weaker, that it only makes them be taken to psychologists when someone calls them a nickname or an insult disguised as a joke. The rage gives is not normal, because not only do they say these things, but they justify them, and I have to bite my tongue to not send them to the psychologist to see if they get better. I hope to achieve it, the relationship between these two issues is that children and adolescents are being subjected to things that are not necessary, things that only seek to normalize fear, rejection, and the fact that the opinion of others is more important than their own, that's why I get upset.

La religión para mí es un lastre que la humanidad debe quitarse de encima, eso es algo que casi siempre pienso, viendo esta película lo pensé muchas veces y la misma película me lo confirmaba. No hablo de que dejen de creer en algún dios, de que se conviertan en ateos, reniegen de sus sentimientos y creencias, no, hay límites que se deben poner, límites que no se deben crusar, y en esta película están los más simples pero peligrosos ejemplos que aún existen hoy en día. ¿Cómo crees tú que es sano decirle a un niño que nació siendo pecador, que quienes no están bautizados irán al infierno a morir, y que solo se debe vivir bajo la palabra de algún dios que solo quiere que te humilles para poder lograr entrar a su reino en los cielos? Gente loca.

Esto no tiene nada que ver, pero juro que lograré explicar la relación que existe. Se dice mucho que el bullying no existe, o que existe solo para volver más débiles a los niños, que solo hace que se les lleve a psicólogos cuando alguien les diga un sobrenombre o cualquier insulto disfrazado de broma. La rabia que me da no es normal, porque no solo dicen esas cosas, si no que las justifican, y tengo que morderme la lengua para no mandarles al psicólogo a ver si mejoran. Espero lograrlo, la relación que existe entre estos dos temas es que se está sometiendo a los niños y adolescente a cosas que no son necesarias, cosas que solo buscan normalizar el miedo, el rechazo, y el hecho de que la opinión de los demás es más importante que la propia, por eso me molesto.

Much is said about Anya's amazing performance in this movie, and I can only agree, that she is amazing, but little is said about Harvey Scrimshaw who played Caleb, one of Thomasin's younger brothers, and the two younger brothers as well, I wondered the whole time how they must have been affected psychologically by being in the movie, they have very strong scenes, especially Caleb, and no matter how much I loved all that, I couldn't help but worry about them.

Much has already been saying about the nightmare of filming with goats running loose outdoors, and Back Phillip is a beautiful and precious little thing that should be able to do whatever he wants, I loved that goat from the first moment I saw it, and with the songs of Mercy and Jonas, they gave it the perfect touch to make the goat have more weight than we wanted.

Mucho se dice de la inceíble actuación de Anya en esta película, y solo puedo estar de acuerdo, es increíble, pero poco se habla de Harvey Scrimshaw que hizo de Caleb, uno de los hermanos menores de Thomasin, y de los dos hermanos menores también, la verdad, yo me pregunté durante todo el tiempo cómo les habrá afectado psicológicamente haber participado en la película, tienen escenas muy fuertes, sobre todo Caleb, pues son importar que haya amado todo eso, no podía dejar de precuparme por les niñes.

Ya mucho se ha dicho sobre la pesadilla que fue grabar con cabras sueltas al aire libre, y es que Back Phillip es una cosita bella y preciosa que debe poder hacer lo que le de la gana, amé a esa cabra desde el primer momento en el que la vi, y con las canciones de Mercy y Jonas le terminaron de dar el toque perfecto para hacer que la cabra tuviera más peso de lo que se quisiera.

I love this movie, a lot, for a lot of different reasons, but the main one is that it is not a pretentious production that rejoices in the fact that they did something completely different and started to revolutionize horror cinema, Robert Eggers together with Ari Aster and Jordan Peele, are the directors who created a horror very different from the conventional, a horror that I will not explain because it deserves its publication; anyway, The VVitch is a simple film that will make your stomach twist, make you want to cry, and make you wonder what's real and what's not.

The trailer is a beautiful thing, it reveals nothing about the movie and still makes you want to watch it, it makes me want to watch it again although I watched it less than 1 day ago. If you don't like horror, don't see it, plus it's a slow movie, so it's not for everyone, I love it, and I will continue to love it, I hope to see it in 5 more years and still love it.

Amo esta película, mucho, por una gran cantidad de razones diferentes, pero la principal es que no es una producción pretenciosa que se regocija en el hecho de que hicieron algo completamente diferente y comenzaron a revolucionar el cine de terror, Robert Eggers junto a Ari Aster y Jordan Peele, son los directores que crearon un terror muy diferente a lo convencional, terror que no les voy a explicar porque merece su propia publicación; en fin, The VVitch es una película sencilla que te dará retorcijones de estómago, ganas de llorar, y hará que te preguntés qué es real y qué no.

El trailer es una cosa preciosa, no revela nada de la película y aún así te hace querer verla, me hace querer verla de nuevo sin importar que la haya visto hace menos de 1 día. Si no les gusta el terror, no la vean, además de que es una película lenta, así que no es para todo el mundo, yo la amo, la seguiré amando, espero verla dentro de 5 años más y seguir amándola.
