(ESP-ENG) Creed III - Apollo's legacy refuses to die!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Apollo Creed, the famous champion who fought Rocky Balboa and later died at the hands of Ivan Drago, had a son who throughout three films has tried to leave the family name at the top with great success. Like the Rocky films, which can not be compared to these, Creed wants to leave a mark on these stories of boxing and family and if we see them well we are facing a spin-off of that central story where the same character of Sylvester Stallone even made an appearance in the first two parts. I really wasn't sure if a third installment was necessary, the way the second one ended, ending also a chapter in this general plot that had been dragging on for years had been perfect for me but Michael B. Jordan would have other plans.
Movies where boxing is the main focus usually have to be very well handled and made to give a good vision of "reality" even if they have little of it. Those of us who like this sport know that this is not so in reality, in fact it is very far from these almost fictional fights we see but as almost always happens in movies the idea is to disconnect that chip we have of logic and simply enjoy a couple of fights that at least at the level of shots and sequences must be said that they are incredible. Also as usual we have the drama factor linked to a story of the past that yes, as a viewer I am sure it is possible to connect. So without further ado, let's talk about this third part of the Creed trilogy.
Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) is already on the mount Olympus of boxing, he is a guy who has nothing more to prove to anyone, he has achieved everything, he has won everything in his path. Not having the need to fight, he takes refuge at home with his family to spend the quality time he deserves. At the same time he runs a gym for boxers where he prepares the younger ones to enter the sport; so far all very typical, cliché and nothing different from what we are used to seeing. It turns out that after a few years in prison Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors) returns to Creed's life. But who is this guy? - Well, he's a boxing prodigy who once taught our protagonist a lot of things.
Here is where this plot starts to get personal and Damian has always wanted to box and show what he knows, what he has learned and what he is made of. This is how we will see that he will do everything possible to be in the ring and have a chance for the championship while the "beef" between the two is increasing more and more. Throughout a little less than two hours we will see what we always see in this type of film: training, family problems, a past that refuses to stay behind and if you ask me a story which is well constructed. I say this because I feel like it wasn't something they pulled out of thin air, because there was some context the film takes on a much cooler depth.
First of all I would like to talk about Jonathan Majors, an actor who was destined for great things and that because of the blessed problem of gender and/or domestic violence is running out of anything. For those who do not know this actor is going through legal problems to be accused of the aforementioned causing Marvel and many other brands have dismissed him. Quantumania and Creed were his last projects from which it must be said that he came out quite successful; in this particular film his acting is very good to the point that for several moments the protagonist looked like him, he is a guy who fit the role like a glove because of his tough, pedantic and above all for the physique and skill he showed in the fight scenes. It is also one that has a certain emotional charge with which it is possible to empathize. Good character of Majors, one of the best of the film.
To see this movie is necessary to have seen all the previous ones? - If you want to have the whole plot studied, I would say yes, but the truth is that nothing happens if it is not the case. These films go beyond being simply about boxing, the family theme and the teaching that it leaves us is another of the things with which it seeks to play a little. As always, family is the most important thing and the past, whether you want it to or not, will eventually catch up with you. There are emotions of all kinds, sadness, revenge, vengeance but also knowing how to let go and let go. I think all of this goes hand in hand so that the film itself can work because otherwise it's just an empty product where two people resolve differences in the ring. The premise is that boxing has to be more than that.
It is not boring or tiring, at least not to me. It is very cliché, I repeat, with some dialogues and performances, things happen that you know are going to happen, things are said that you know are going to be said and even the reactions you are able to predict them and in the end that is the key word for this film: predictable. This doesn't make it bad, don't misunderstand, it's a basic product with a story that is also a bit superficial, if you will, but it fulfills its function. And how do I know? - You know when you are watching something and suddenly you start to feel anger, helplessness or some feeling that is tied to what you just saw? - Well, that's precisely what happens here. If it wasn't a bad product, this wouldn't happen, at least in my case.
The fight scenes are very top, in fact and I'm going to call me crazy but there are certain nods to the anime, specifically Dragon Ball. There are certain shots where we can see some well known movements that really caught my attention, it is known that Jordan is a fan of Dragon Ball and being the director too, it is something that became very evident. But yes, everything we see on top of the rin is very good, the final fight is the best, there are many camera games, slow motion, lights, in short, in that aspect zero complaints, very well achieved every minute, it is very enjoyable.
Michael B. Jordan was remarkable, he is a very good actor and it shows in this film. It should also be said that Sylvester Stallone was one of the producers, hence the quality of the product to the point that you can feel his mark. I give it a 7.7/10 because for me it met my expectations, good story, very striking and well done scenes, a drama always necessary and both protagonists really at the height. It has a duration of a little less than two hours. I recommend it because I feel it's worth it, honestly it's a good product. I leave you the trailer below.
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
