(ESP-ENG) Echoes! Dos vidas, muchos secretos // Echoes! Two lives, many secrets!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
The amount of series or in this case mini series that are on my pending list may be quite extensive so catching up is becoming complicated and if we add to all that the World Cup, well, even more in my favor. But none of that will prevent me, as far as possible, to continue bringing the different reviews of everything that catches my attention and this time it was the turn of Echoes, a very curious Netflix mini series that at least kept me in expectation most of the time. At least in my experience the company with the red letter N continues to surprise me with the content I've seen lately, I know I've already said it but it still seems strange to me, the mediocre Netflix seems to be leaving behind, will it be...?
Very briefly Echoes is a story that has many things hidden under the carpet, that dirt that people put there so that no one sees it or learns of its existence, and that little by little we will have to go discovering it because as they say out there: lies have short legs. It is a detective thriller but it also has a bit of intrigue for the strange and bizarre actions of these sisters with respect to how they decided to live their lives without thinking much about the consequences that these acts could cause to all those around them and look what happened. Ghosts from the past come knocking at the door and what was a simple anecdote will soon become a snowball that grows and grows without stopping. So, let's talk a little bit about the short story of these troubled twins.
This distorted and confusing story tells us about twins, Lina and Gina (Michelle Monaghan) who for years decided and thought that exchanging lives between them would be a good idea and that with this practice they would escape from the problems they were getting into, nothing further from reality. For years and since always they have had a special bond, it is like an over dependence that makes that one can not live without the other, they complement each other in levels rarely seen and that can be very nice but it can also be very harmful and toxic, which is the part that develops this mini series. They have always been a united family, with secrets but united until one day everything changes and one of them leaves no trace, obviously this affects her twin and disrupts her life and it is at that moment when the whole world they had armed collapses and begins the plot in question.
When this sister disappears the other one has no choice but to start reliving things she once lived because as I said many times they exchanged lives to the point that they came to share absolutely everything. In that search a Pandora's box is about to be opened and all those secrets that only the twins knew will start to fly around everyone making the whole situation more and more untenable and we will realize the disaster of life that the missing sister had to the point that everything becomes a criminal investigation. The plot is that, throughout the chapters we will discover and try to decipher who is who, the why of things and the reasons behind the disappearance.
The plot and the idea of the story is very good and I must confess that I was expecting something much worse, it is not the series of the year but it is one that lets us watch and allows us to pass the time without boredom. The intrigue is sold to us from minute one and I think it is their way of getting us the viewers hooked to the mini series and once we start this journey we can't leave it. As in everything there are its ups and downs, I think its strength is the confusion that one can get to feel sometimes not knowing what is really happening, you understand the context of things but put an order to the facts is complicated, it is a very complex puzzle in certain parts of the story. Its lows are perhaps the moments where each one lives their lives and are apart from each other, there everything becomes very slow and routine and at times loses its rhythm.
When I say that the story is very good is because while it is true that the topic of twins changing to live the life of the other is not at all new in many of these cases I feel that it can become very predictable, here there are certain elements that one does not expect to happen and that gives a little more spark to the plot. There are seven episodes that tell different aspects of the plot, things that are necessary to understand to put a body to this messy story, it is not frenetic but you have to be aware of the details and especially the performances of these sisters so you can keep up.
Both have families, so this topic is important, it touches a lot on the issue of trust, nonconformity and very importantly, the secrets that they hide from each other with the excuse of "protecting". We will quickly realize that none of that works in the long run. And last but not least is the police theme, I think without it the story would be just another one of the bunch but it was this factor that kept the story a little more dynamic and not too scattered. The twins acted according to the steps taken by detective Floss (Karen Robinson) and that in the end I think helped the development a little. She, the detective, is a good character, she's the typical cop who doesn't take anything for granted despite how complicated it is to deal with twins that few people manage to recognize. Incisive, direct but very integrated in her work, many will disagree but for me she is one of the important characters of this mini series.
And on the other hand we have to give credit to Michelle who played two very different characters in personality and character almost simultaneously. In general terms it was a good performance, I feel that she didn't leave anything to be desired with either of the twins, one is cold and calculating and the other is a little warmer and with a more marked sentimentality. Nothing earth-shattering but not a fiasco or anything like that.
In short, a very discreet series but that fulfills the minimum to entertain and pass the time trying to discover the twists and turns that the story has. Its ending is quite open, if you want to see it that way, but I think it's a good closure, being a mini series I don't see the possibility of a second season. It was an ending also accompanied by an important plot twist that helps all the pieces end up fitting together completely. I give it a 7/10, it's not the best I've seen but at no time I lost interest and that for me is important. It is available on Netflix and consists of 7 chapters of approximately 50 minutes each. I leave the trailer here so you can take a look at it.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
