Tal y como digo en el título Justin Timberlake ha sido un cantante que ha estado siempre dando vueltas por ahí desde la década de los noventas con el famoso grupo NSYNC, quienes junto con los Backstreet Boys fueron la tendencia de las Boys Bands de la época. Pero la razón por la que me decidí a hacer este post es porque recientemente salió el Tiny Desk suyo el cual es una verdadera joya. Para los que no sepan lo que son los Tiny Desk estamos hablando de unos mini conciertos acústicos en donde los artistas escogen 3-4 canciones y en un ambiente muy íntimo y acogedor interpretan dichos temas. Justin para mi es de esos cantantes/compositores sumamente versátiles y es que no solo en el canto sino que en el baile también, es un tipo que sabe como mantenerse vigente. Así que vamos con algunos de sus grandes temas.

As I say in the title Justin Timberlake has been a singer who has always been around since the nineties with the famous group NSYNC, who along with the Backstreet Boys were the trend of the Boys Bands of the time. But the reason why I decided to do this post is because recently came out the Tiny Desk of theirs which is a real gem. For those who don't know what the Tiny Desk are, we are talking about mini acoustic concerts where the artists choose 3-4 songs and in a very intimate and cozy atmosphere they perform those songs. Justin for me is one of those extremely versatile singer/songwriters and not only in singing but also in dancing, he is a guy who knows how to stay current. So let's go with some of his great songs.

- SexyBack

Sexyback es una canción que tiene casi 20 años y que al sol de hoy ustedes escuchan su sonido y es muy probable que la reconozcan sin mucho problema. Recuerdo que cuando este tema vio la luz del día aquello sonó por todos lados gracias, en gran parte, a su sonido tan particular y adictivo, si se pudiera decir. Junto Timbaland, este productor y rapero de mucho nombre, Justin logró sacar uno de los que hasta ahora es de sus grandes éxitos, una canción que entra dentro del género "Electro" con mucho pop y claro está, el R&B. Si nos vamos a la letra yo les diría que no importa tanto, simplemente nos habla de una persona que quiere llamar la atención de una mujer y este la invita a hacer una serie de cosas. Esto no es lo relevante, lo que importa verdaderamente y vuelvo y repito es el sonido. Para mi es super complicado lograr eso, que tan solo con una melodía se consiga que las personas identifiquen algo y sobre todo se pongan a bailar y a disfrutar de la canción. Este es uno de los temas por lo que llamo a Timberlake un artista versátil, si bien no ha sido el primero dentro de este género, creo que no es su fuerte, para mi se le dan mejor las baladas y el propio R&B. Gran tema, 18 años después les aseguro que sigue levantando gente.

Sexyback is a song that is almost 20 years old and that today you listen to its sound and it is very likely that you recognize it without much problem. I remember that when this song saw the light of day it was played everywhere thanks, in large part, to its sound so particular and addictive, if I could say. Together with Timbaland, this big name producer and rapper, Justin managed to release one of his greatest hits so far, a song that falls into the "Electro" genre with a lot of pop and of course, R&B. If we go to the lyrics I would say that it does not matter so much, it simply tells us about a person who wants to get the attention of a woman and he invites her to do a series of things. This is not what is relevant, what really matters and I repeat again and again is the sound. For me it is super complicated to achieve that, that only with a melody you get people to identify something and above all get them to dance and enjoy the song. This is one of the themes why I call Timberlake a versatile artist, although he has not been the first in this genre, I think it is not his forte, for me he is better at ballads and R & B itself. Great song, 18 years later I assure you that it continues to raise people.

- Mirrors

Acá estamos ante, bajo mi humilde opinión, la mejor canción que ha compuesto y hecho Justin Timberlake. Mirrors es una historia de amor la cual es contada a través del tiempo, es como ir en retrospectiva reviviendo lo que fue aquel comienzo de dicha relación hasta el mismo final. El contexto de esta canción es sentimental porque es un tema que Justin les dedicó a sus abuelos los cuales habían fallecido recientemente para aquel entonces, estamos en el año 2013. Por lo que la letra nos habla de eso, de la relación durante todos los años que sus abuelos estuvieron con vida, Sadie y William. Sinceramente es muy bonita la canción, tiene unos mensajes conmovedores y el video es espectacular, es muy estético y está bien hecho además de que capta la esencia del tema a la perfección. Otra vez estamos ante una balada pop con matices del R&B. Este tema para mi es el que mejor describe el estilo de Timberlake, es el que mejor le queda bien, con este fue con el que se dio a conocer en NSYNC. El video dura ocho minutos pero es porque al final decide hacer una breve presentación bailando entre unos espejos para darle un cierre, imagino yo, más personal a la canción.

This is, in my humble opinion, the best song Justin Timberlake has ever written and performed. Mirrors is a love story which is told through time, it is like going back in retrospect reliving what was the beginning of that relationship until the very end. The context of this song is sentimental because it is a song that Justin dedicated to his grandparents who had recently passed away at that time, we are in 2013. So the lyrics tell us about that, about the relationship during all the years that his grandparents were alive, Sadie and William. Sincerely, the song is very beautiful, it has some touching messages and the video is spectacular, it is very aesthetic and well done and it captures the essence of the song perfectly. Once again we are in front of a pop ballad with R&B overtones. This song for me is the one that best describes Timberlake's style, it is the one that best suits him, this is the one with which he became known in NSYNC. The video is eight minutes long but that's because at the end he decides to make a brief presentation dancing between some mirrors to give a closing, I imagine, more personal to the song.

- Cry Me A River

Todos acá sabemos que Justin y Britney Spears tuvieron una relación un tanto tortuosa de la cual salieron, años después, ciertas cosas un tanto turbias. En su momento Timberlake negó que este tema estuviera dedicado a ella pero tiempo después el mismo director dei video lo confirmó, la idea era que todo fuera dedicado a ella, de allí a que el video vemos muchas referencias hacia ella. Esto lo digo, como siempre, para que se tenga un contexto de las cosas. Ahora, ¿esto quita que la canción se mala? - para nada, es de las mejores que tiene en su repertorio. Un tema que salió por allá en el 2002 y que hoy por hoy sigue siendo una canción de mucho culto. Nos habla de que ahora es el turno de la mujer de sufrir y llorar por todas las cosas malas que ha hecho y que ya, esta pareja sabe todo. Es como una especie de venganza o el famoso ojo por ojo. La canción sigue en la línea de su estilo, no se sale de ahí porque es lo que le funciona, y es que no se ha dicho pero este tipo tiene una voz aguda privilegiada. Es complicado conseguir un registro así y él lo tiene y lo aprovecha muy bien en un género en el que genuinamente suena bastante top. Son muchas canciones más que tiene Timberlake por allí pero de momento me decanto por estas tres.

Everyone here knows that Justin and Britney Spears had a somewhat tortuous relationship of which came out, years later, certain things a bit murky. At the time Timberlake denied that this song was dedicated to her but later the same director of the video confirmed it, the idea was that everything was dedicated to her, hence the video we see many references to her. I say this, as always, so that you have a context of things. Now, does this mean that the song is bad? - Not at all, it is one of the best she has in her repertoire. A song that came out back in 2002 and that today is still a song of much worship. It tells us that now it is the woman's turn to suffer and cry for all the bad things she has done and that now this couple knows everything. It is like a kind of revenge or the famous eye for an eye. The song follows in the line of his style, he doesn't get out of it because it's what works for him, and it hasn't been said but this guy has a privileged high-pitched voice. It is complicated to get a register like that and he has it and takes advantage of it very well in a genre in which he genuinely sounds pretty top. There are many more songs that Timberlake has out there but for now I'll go with these three.

Timberlake es un cantante estupendo quien también ha llevado una vida apartada del drama excesivo que viven algunos cantantes. Mirrors considero que también es una de su mejores, una obra de arte desde su cadencia, su voz recordando sus inicios y la vida que él supo aportarle a NSYNC hasta el baile fenomenal que comparte en el video.

A pesar de que siempre buscó no estar en el foco es inevitable que siempre termine cayendo en tanto drama, es imposible esquivar eso.

En el panorama musical hay pocos que bailen y canten en igualdad de calidad como lo hace él. Y es que si vemos NSYNC por lo menos en coreografias y bailes eran bastante mejores que BSB pero eso es otro tema.
