(ESP-ENG) Kaleidoscope, a story of revenge and greed!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
For a moment we leave Amazon Prime and quickly return to Netflix to take a look at one of the new series that the platform has, one that promises to be the new sensation despite its hackneyed and well told plot which has been the center of great series and movies. As I saw that a comparison made in the last post liked so much I do it again here, you have not seen Kaleidoscope? - Well, my summary for you would be to tell you that it is very similar to what you see in La Casa de Papel with many, quite a few elements I would say, from the movie Ocean's Eleven, that film with Brad Pitt, George Clooney and company. Does this make it bad or predictable? - Nothing to do because if there is something that this story has are "plot twists" and that never gets boring.
A story about a robbery, how original... that's what I thought at first and I confess that I was very hesitant to give it a chance but when you see the cast and realize that Giancarlo Esposito, Paz Vega, Jai Courtney and Tati Gabrielle herself, that witch from Sabrina that got a lot of attention, are the main characters my perception of the series changed a bit. As you will see it is a story full of revenge, greed, grudges, unresolved problems in the past but it is also a surprisingly very entertaining plot that changes as the episodes go by as in each one you discover new things and much more garbage under that carpet. So without further ado let's talk a little bit about this story that is not what it seems.
This story begins long before the day of the robbery, 25 years ago to be exact and all in the mind of one man, Ray Vernon (Giancarlo Esposito). The point is that in order to carry out his plan he needs to have a team he trusts and above all that they are very good in each of their departments since the robbery or hit they plan to give is not easy at all, in fact and as in almost all robberies the probability of it going well is practically nil given how almost impossible it is in the papals to access where they want to get to. The target is a vault but not just any vault, it is perhaps the most guarded in the United States and beware if the world, quite cliché this but in the series you will see that yes, it is very complicated to enter.
But what happens? - Well, it seems that everyone's plans are different and this is where greed, betrayals, loyalty problems and something very important, revenge come in. In spite of all this, this group, too dysfunctional to say the least, manages to keep going with the plan one that can make them owners of 7 billion dollars, evidently before such a figure all differences can be set aside. From here on we will see how, throughout the eight chapters, a big ball of thread full of knots unravels, allowing us to understand the context of many things, things that we probably took for granted but that the reality ends up being different.
The way in which this plot is told is very particular because it is one that jumps in time regardless of the order of the chapters, it can be 20 years ago and then jump 6 months after the robbery and so on. For many may not like this way because it can be a way to eat a spoiler intentionally but the truth is that I found it very interesting because the intrigue factor grows much more plus as I said the absurd amount of plot twist that there is makes each episode a surprise despite such jumps in time. Personally, those little moments when you discover a part of the plot that you didn't know or didn't imagine are worth gold and give a great value to the experience of watching this series.
And in reality the story is not so much about the robbery but about the consequences of it, all those marks left by the elaboration of such a plan and all those left by having participated in such a big "operation". This element is also new for me because usually the plots do not focus on that, only the robbery happens and that's it, happy ending and here it is not so, it is a whole journey where the consequences of the acts will begin to be noticed. I watched this series in three days because it is one of those that hooks you in such a way that you need to see what is going to happen or why something happened, I feel it is impossible to get bored; however, you have to leave cynicism aside, because no matter how many similar stories we have seen in the past I can assure you that little compares to this one, there are many differentiating elements that I am grateful they were there to prevent it from being a vile copy of past productions.
The good thing about this series besides having a very interesting story is that it has certain things that make it even more striking. It has an important existential family drama which is the origin of many grudges, has its small part of comedy that is given by the coexistence of this group that does not get along well, there is the police and investigative factor as the FBI is something that is very involved in the plot, the fact that it is a thriller and therefore keeps you always in expectation and with an intrigue always present and finally the whole theme of action, there are many scenes full of shooting, clashes, disputes that you will always be grateful that it happens. As you can see I would say that it is a pretty complete plot where there is a little bit of everything, it is one of those very random series, because honestly it is, but at the end when you finish watching it you say "well, look, not so bad"...
The characters are very good, to talk about all of them would be too long but I would like to say that Giancarlo Esposito's acting is spectacular, it is not necessary to say that he is one of the actors I respect the most because everything he does, Gus Fring, Moff Gideon, Stan Edgar, etc., he does it well. Here the whole series revolves around him so we see him doing everything from crying to scenes where such action is what rules; a great character. Paz Vega with her character of Ava Mercer is also to put the eye, very complete; and I would also mention Jai Courtney as Bob Goodwin, this actor always plays the same character, the lout, the apple of discord but that deep down he has his reasons for being so, he is one of those who has something good but very hidden. The reality is that all the cast is ten, each one of them has their own things that are worth paying a little attention to.
I give this story a 7.5/10 and I'll explain why. The series is very good, it's worth watching but I didn't like the ending, I didn't connect with that conclusion or part of it and for me the way a plot closes is as important as the development itself. The latter was pretty good but I repeat, I was not impressed by the way it all ended. But well, in the end this is an opinion and you may find it all a plot twist. It is on Netflix and has eight chapters of 45 to 50 minutes each. Here is the trailer so you can take a look at it.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
these short episode series are really starting to be more the trend these days than the long telenovelas of once before huh? 😅 i guess it does provide for more action time and less filler scenes to keep the audience's attention, which makes a heist genre like this look all the more fun! thank you for sharing your review about this! 😁

Saludos!!
