(ESP-ENG) Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini {OPINIÓN}
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
On Sunday, more than half the world, if not the whole world, was paralyzed waiting for just one thing, waiting for Lionel Messi, the boy from Rosario, to lift the third World Cup for Argentina in what would be his last chance to touch the Olympus of the greatest. It was a clamor and even a demand that many were making of him, since it was what he was missing to be consecrated, in my opinion, as the most important, relevant, decisive and magical player in the history of this beautiful sport. Many players with whom he could be compared are now behind him, that eternal comparison with Cristiano Ronaldo is behind him and not to mention Maradona, who, although I also think that the place of "El Diego" in the hearts of Argentines and those who revere him is still intact, the pressure that Messi had on his shoulders finally left it behind in the Lusail field.
This World Cup was the unequivocal proof that no matter how many times you fall down, the most important thing is the way you get up and look at how this national team was beaten and its players were pointed out as a generation that was finished, but in the end it was Messi, Di María and Otamendi themselves who probably had the best world cup and performance in the most key moments and summits of the Albiceleste. When they lost against Arabia in that first game everything seemed to be over, it was unheard of to lose against the "weakest" team of that group until Poland and Mexico arrived to change everything in the moral and emotional sense, those were the games that allowed Argentina to regain the confidence to face from the round of 16 onwards with a Messi full of energy and protagonist in every game.
The final arrived and I always said that Argentina was the favorite because of the above mentioned, the mood and the illusion that each player brought was perhaps greater than that of the entire French team together, this is clearly a mere speculation but one also knows how much Argentina was looking for the cup, that Messi was looking for that trophy of about six kilos of weight. Before the opening whistle it was incredibly evenly balanced, the chances were a bit wider for the Europeans but overall it was all very even. Mbappé, an absolute beast, was tied with Messi in number of goals, which made that match have another special spice.
That game I can say that it was the best final I have ever seen in my life, I have been watching them since the USA 94 World Cup where Brazil and Italy went to penalties and although that was a tremendous game, nothing compares to what we experienced on Sunday. Argentina was more for a little more than 70 minutes but then the beast woke up, the beast got tired of not having done anything in that final and from his sleeve he pulled out a Hattrick to fulminate half the world, everything was a give and take between Messi and his teammate at PSG until the final whistle blew and we were going to penalties. I do not want to imagine what it is like to lose a world final having scored three goals, this tells us that Kylian with just 24 years old is about to write his own history in world soccer.
A penalty shootout where the whole team scored with solvency and where Dibu Martinez did his best again. You can dislike him, be annoyed and even criticize his attitudes, I always do, but he has the right to be like that because he is a great goalkeeper, he saved Argentina with 2 minutes to go before the end of the extra time and saved two penalties, what more can you ask from him? - In the end, these are things that should stay on the field. Di María was another player who played magnificent sixty minutes, he was the driving force of the Albiceleste and one who deserved this cup more than anyone else. But in the end this national team was all Messi, it was him who pulled the cart from the round of 16, scoring goals and assists until the very final, when they were at their worst on the field, it was thanks to his magic that they were able to unblock the path and move forward, it was Messi who carried on his shoulders those 22 players to win the third star.
One would think that the best thing Lionel could do is to retire from the national team after having won absolutely everything with it but no, he wants to wear that jersey being champion, he wants to play and continue representing Argentina until who knows when, only he will know it and you know what? - It's ok, nobody is going to take the 10 from him because for that there has to be a successor and that friends is the only thing I still don't see, I don't see a replacement that can stop depending on Messi for good, I'm not saying it's something serious but it's something they should start thinking about, only after the euphoria passes and we return to the field next year with the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. And yes, this does not stop and that is what has to do with having made a World Cup at this time, which I sincerely take this opportunity to say that I hope we never see something similar, and the next one will be 48 teams, something I do not like at all, but well, we will have to see how it goes.
On December 18, 2022, all of us who watched that game witnessed pure history, we witnessed how a man became a legend, if he was not already one before that, how thanks to his goals, his left foot, his wit and intelligence he was able to overcome all those he faced, it was then when he finally took off those shackles of absurd pressure and could be free and happy with the greatest achievement that every footballer should opt for. It is strange because I lived that final as an Argentinean but in these cases nationality has nothing to do with it, it is the admiration and absolute respect for the sport and for this man who for me from that night became the best player that this planet has ever seen playing with a ball. I have no doubts but thousands of proofs that Lionel Messi crossed the threshold of being just another player to become the greatest thing that soccer has ever given in its history.
Thank you Messi for allowing me and millions of others to be part of what is the consecration of an icon that will last for a few more years. Hundreds of moons will have to pass before we see a player like this again because there is no one in the near future. Lionel Messi is the best soccer player in history, there can be no discussion about it, he does not deserve to be in doubt. Yes, there were a few who were and are out of the ordinary but no one of the magnitude of the current ten. Let's be happy and pleased, whether we are fans or not, to have been part of one of the best World Cup finals and how one man was able to unite hundreds of countries and cultures, even if it was just for a few moments.
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.

Saludos y Felices fiestas!
