I think that so far this year I have reviewed about three Liam Neeson movies (Blacklight, Ice Road and now this one) where we see a different Neeson in all three but in essence and style is almost always the same. The truth is that I'm here again talking about the last film of this actor because I really am a fan of him and his work, these are films that are obviously not made to compete for an award but to entertain the viewer the way Liam knows how to do it, with deaths, chases, settling scores and above all the engine that drives the vast majority of his films: revenge.

This story does not escape from that and honestly it seems that it will never get tired or at least to me, why? - Because we all know how these plots are going to be and basically that's what we are waiting for, once the film starts the paths can be infinite but the central premise will always be revenge and let's be honest, who doesn't like to see how a person takes justice into his own hands when he sees the "incompetence" of those in charge of delivering it?..... It will always be entertaining to watch, depending on how you handle it and how you act it out. But okay, let's talk a bit about this latest Neeson plot.

This story begins with Alex Lewis (Liam Neeson) who is a known contract killer who has a truly impeccable reputation. The thing is that Alex is apparently working for some people who belong to a powerful criminal organization and who are not used to receive a "no" as an answer being that precisely the trigger that will start the problems that will be presented in the future to Mr. Lewis. As if this were not enough, in addition to being the target of this organization, he is also being pursued by another even more silent and lethal monster, a mental illness.

But of course, why did Alex reach this point of enmity with these people? - Because he refused to do a job and having a contract established with them, he would be in breach of it. But that will not be a reason for this murderer to escape from those who want him dead but in parallel will be dedicated to hunt his persecutors, he has the skills and knowledge necessary to do that except for the small detail of mental illness. One that makes everything more difficult to achieve and that increasingly limits everything Alex can do and even who to trust.

Liam Neeson's movies are basic but incredibly entertaining, that's the reality and those who are looking for something deeper, I think this is not the content they should see. In Memory we see how everything starts to go less than five minutes into the film, that serves as a preamble to more or less think about how the rest will be. In fact I remember that when I saw that I was surprised because I did not expect it to happen, this logically motivated me that I would probably be facing a film in which there would be no shortage of murders, plots, settling of scores, etc.. These films always have like a "body" to say it in a way and is that in all the concept of execution and revenge go hand in hand and that what makes is that one does not stop watching them.

It is not a plot where we will see great actions of hand to hand combat, if there are some where you will see a Neeson that despite the age he has, he still performs well, but there are more than enough, it is not a film that asks so much because we are in a roll a little more investigative and detective so the action scenes are few but in my opinion very well done and all with some common sense, it is not exploit something just for the sake of doing it and that's it. There is something a little curious and it is Liam's fighting style, it is not a flashy one but it is extremely effective and lethal, we are talking about the Israeli krav maga which seeks to neutralize the opponents in the most effective way possible. That is why you will rarely see him throw a kick or punch as we are used to see them on the big screen.

It's a police thriller if you ask me where the tension is there from the first moments, as I said. At the beginning everything may be confusing but as the plot progresses the threads come together and we understand what is really going on. In my case I never lost my attention, I always kept watching it because these films in general invite the viewer to also seek to discover and solve the case. Also, given the nature of the criminal organization, which I won't say because the idea is for you to discover it, it is very easy to choose a side and create empathy with some characters, not only with Alex. It is one of those plots that outrage you and you think that if "I were there I would break his knees" because you understand that justice will not do anything about it. The truth is, and now that I'm writing this I can tell you that I enjoyed it a lot, I'm not complaining at all.

As for the characters it must be said that the casting is very good, another reason why I decided to see this film. Besides Neeson we have Monica Bellucci and Guy Pearce. Liam here we see how the years do not pass in vain but he is still a good actor, he is not one of those who will jump on cars and run two hundred meters but he is one of those who can give you a beating with just three movements. The detail of the mental illness will show him more human and vulnerable, he can give you pity at various times and that is something that is very rare to see in him since he is usually a tough as nails guy. Another great success for Liam, a movie that covered all my expectations.

On the other hand Pierce and Monica Bellucci are co-stars, the first is an FBI agent who by traumas of his past will always act in search of good and the second is a tycoon who thanks to money and her position controls the power as she sees fit. The two characters are nothing extraordinary but they were well done and above all convincing, which in many occasions is what fails, here I feel that it does not. Both in their own way had motives to act as they did and that is reflected in their characters. Nothing to say about them, one with more weight than the other but in the end they were well done.

In short, a movie to see if you want to disconnect a little and distract yourself with a good police story full of revenge. It is a story whose only purpose and I repeat it again is to entertain as well as to give us the opportunity to see Liam Neeson because we do not know when his retirement will come closer and closer. Tension, action and a bit of criminal suspense is what you will see when you decide to watch Memory.

An 8/10 because it's everything I expected and maybe a little more from a Neeson movie. At first I thought about giving it 7.5 but then I remembered the cast and the truth is that it caught my attention to see two great actors and they did decently so I bumped it up to 8. It has a running time of about an hour and fifty minutes of which I assure you will not be annoyed. Here is the trailer for you to take a look at.
