El día viernes se realizó el sorteo de los cuartos de final de la Champions League y la verdad es que nos dejó muchas sorpresas, unas que para mi son espectaculares en pro del espectáculo y es que, por lo menos para mi persona, tenía tiempo que no veía unos cruces tan parejos. Pero cuando hablo del hecho de no haber favoritos no me refieron a que al ser todos unas potencias futbolísticas será complicado acertar, no no, me refiero a todo lo contrario; hasta ahora considero que no he visto a ningún club de los ocho que siguen con vida ser determinante, dominador y por tanto claro candidato a llegar por lo menos a la final.
On Friday the draw for the quarterfinals of the Champions League took place and the truth is that it left us many surprises, some that for me are spectacular for the show and that, at least for me, I had not seen such even crossings for a long time. But when I talk about the fact that there are no favorites, I do not mean that since they are all soccer powers it will be difficult to get it right, no no, I mean the opposite; so far I consider that I have not seen any club of the eight that are still alive to be decisive, dominant and therefore a clear candidate to reach at least the final.
Y es que el nivel que han mostrado casi todos los equipos ha sido muy igualado y no precisamente para bien. Comencemos con el plato principal: Man City vs Real Madrid. Creo que nadie esperaba este choque en esta instancia, en todo caso en una semifinal o una misma final, pero el destino quiso que uno de los dos grandes favoritos de la gente quede fuera en apenas los cuartos. Si hay una liga que está reñida es la Premier League, los ciudadanos están de terceros a un punto del líder, el Arsenal. El paso de los ciudadanos ha sido sólido en esta Champions, primeros en la fase de grupos y les pasaron por encima al Copenhague en los octavos, quizás no tienen un juego vistoso pero son increíblemente efectivos.
And the level shown by almost all the teams has been very even and not exactly for the better. Let's start with the main course: Man City vs Real Madrid. I don't think anyone expected this clash at this stage, in any case in a semifinal or even a final, but fate would have it that one of the two great favorites of the people is out in just the quarterfinals. If there is a league that is close, it is the Premier League, the Citizens are in third place, one point behind leaders Arsenal. The Citizens have been solid in this Champions League, first in the group stage and they beat Copenhagen in the round of 16, maybe they don't have a showy game but they are incredibly effective.

Por otra parte los merengues también terminaron invictos la fase de grupos pero en los octavos fue otra la historia y es que realmente les costó mucho ganarles a Leipzig, tanto así que el global quedó apenas 2-1. Me parece raro que le suceda esto a este equipo sabiendo el potencial que tienen pero es que a veces se les ve totalmente desconectados de la cancha y del juego. En la Liga van líderes "cómodos" con 8 puntos de ventaja pero igual a veces les toca sufrir. ¿Favorito? - sinceramente no tengo idea pero me inclinaré por el Madrid únicamente por la historia, este club en los partidos grandes se crece mucho, a veces de maneras inexplicables, y terminan resolviendo. Pero si, este partido es el más cerrado de los cuatro.
On the other hand, the Merengues also finished the group stage undefeated but in the round of 16 it was a different story and it was really hard for them to beat Leipzig, so much so that the aggregate was only 2-1. Culés y parisinos se verán las caras nuevamente, no es nueva esta rivalidad pero sí que tendrá nuevos condimentos: Luis Enrique en el banco de técnico y a un tal Dembelé. Acá la historia es muy similar y es que ambos clubes, por lo menos en esta edición, no se han visto nada consolidados. Los blaugranas terminaron de primeros si, pero empatados con el Porto y en los octavos ganaron a un muy pasivo Napoli. Mientras que los de Mbappe y compañía creo que ha sido hasta peor porque por poco se quedan fuera en la misma fase de grupos, ya en octavos contra la Real Sociedad si que es verdad que enderezaron un poco el barco. Hay que decir que ambos están bien en sus respectivas ligas, poco a poco, por lo menos los de Xavi, ha sabido mantener el ritmo de juego.

El tema acá es que el PSG tiene un factor diferenciador vital e importante: Kylian Mbappé. Creo que con Luis Enrique los franceses están jugando un poco mejor, por lo menos se les nota un juego más vistoso y con un sentido lo que se traduce en un grado más de favoritismo. El Barca y las lesiones están pegando duro pero siguen en la senda de ganar como se pueda. Su talón de Aquiles es la defensa por lo que veremos que hacen con la rapidez de los franceses de arriba. Pero al final el PSG es un club pequeño, para mi sin identidad ni arraigo y eso pesa. ¿Ganador? - creo que el PSG puede aguar la fiesta culé, si los de Xavi no salen finos, la pasarán mal. Tercer encuentro: Bayern vs Arsenal. Uno que a priori no parece tan interesante pero creo que será un gran partido sobretodo por el presente del Arsenal.

Los de Mikel Arteta vienen haciendo una temporada de ensueño, líderes de la Premier y clasificaron a estos cuartos después de un muy reñido cruce con el Porto el cual llegó a penales. Mientras, el Bayern sigue a la sombra del Leverkusen, no hay manera de darle caza a los Alonso. Para mi que los bávaros estén en estos cuartos es una sorpresa porque el primer juego contra la Lazio de los octavos fue un desastre monumental, parecía imposible que se recuperaran pero al final lo hicieron y acá están. Creo que el Arsenal es candidato en esta llave, apuesto al juego dinámico y efectivo de los ingleses, tiene jugadores de sobra para dejar en el camino a los teutones además de que considero que el fútbol tiene una deuda con ellos.

Cierro con el Atlético vs Dortmund. La realidad de ambos clubes es muy similar. Los rojiblancos también son invitados inesperados, no veían que avanzaran contra el Inter y pues, lo hicieron in extremis. El Dortmund hizo lo propio contra el PSV de una manera más holgada. Los de Cholo están muy lejos de su mejor versión por lo que mi apuesta es a favor de los alemanes. Honestamente no veo al Atlético de Madrid en semifinales de Champions después de la temporada que llevan aunque todo es posible. Unos cuartos de final muy parejos en donde todo puede pasar.
I close with Atletico vs Dortmund. The reality of both clubs is very similar. The red and whites are also unexpected guests, they were not expected to advance against Inter and, well, they did it in extremis. Dortmund did the same against PSV in a more comfortable way. Cholo's team is far from their best so my bet is in favor of the Germans. Honestly I do not see Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semifinals after the season they have been having, although anything is possible. A very even quarterfinals where anything can happen.

Situación complicada pero para mi igualmente el City está aún por encima del resto, pero mi Madrid, es el Madrid y ya sabemos. 😅
El city es de los que se vió más sólido por lo que puede que sea el que está encima pero coincido contigo, el Madrid por historia capaz avanza.

Personalmente creo que, sin duda, como está mentalmente un Bayern, ya que Tuchel se irá al finalizar la temporada y sumado a eso tienen prácticamente asumido que el Leverkusen se quedará con el título de la Bundesliga. El Arsenal, pese a su juventud, llega después de superar la barrera de los octavos algo que parecía un gran límite los últimos años.
Entonces bajo ese pensamiento el Barca también pasaría? Porque Xavi se va al final de temporada aunque yo no sé si creer eso del todo. Ojalá pase el Arsenal, de los 8 es el equipo al que más fe le tengo.
