It is interesting to see how a topic that today is already super common ordinary is still attractive, at least for me. I'm talking about demon hunting/curses or whatever adjective you want to give it. This time I changed genre and wanted to look for something a little more common and mainstream, the amount of movies out there is absurd so finding one that really catches my attention just reading its synopsis is complicated. What made me stop on this one? - Well, some key words like: magic, demons, wizards and crime; I think if you put them all together the result can be pretty good. The thing is that this movie was just what I expected, no more and no less; a story where the indiscriminate use of magic can have fatal consequences.

Es interesante ver como un tema que hoy por hoy ya es super común ordinario sigue siendo atractivo, por lo menos para mi. Hablo de la caza de demonios/maldiciones o el adjetivo que le quieran dar. En esta oportunidad cambié de género y quise buscar algo un poco más común y mainstream, la cantidad de películas que hay es absurda por lo que encontrar una que realmente me llame la atención leyendo solo su sinopsis es complicado. Que hizo que me detuviera en esta? - pues algunas palabras claves como: magia, demonios, hechiceros y crimen; creo que si las juntas todas el resultado puede ser bastante bueno. La cosa es que esta película fue justamente lo que me esperaba, ni más ni menos; una historia en donde el uso indiscriminado de la magia puede tener fatales consecuencias.

This story focuses on Reiot Stainbarg, a sorcerer, one of the most effective there is, but with a particularity and that is that he has no license to exercise that role. We are set in an alternate past where civilization found a way to use magic for purposes that can help society. Medicine, science, agriculture, military matters and a long etcetera are some of the disciplines in which magical forces play a role. Everything is ideal and perfect until it simply ceases to be so, and people always find ways to corrupt and misuse things, usually for convenience or because their judgment can become a little clouded.

Esta historia se centra en Reiot Stainbarg, un hechicero, de los más efectivos que hay, pero con una particularidad y es que no tiene licencia para ejercer ese rol. Nos ubicamos en un pasado alterno en donde la civilización encontró la manera de usar la magia para fines que puedan ayudar a la sociedad. Medicina, ciencia, agricultura, temas militares y un largo etcétera son algunas de las disciplinas en las que las fuerzas mágicas cumplen un rol. Todo es ideal y perfecto hasta que simplemente deja de serlo y es que las personas siempre encuentran la forma de corromper y darle mal uso a las cosas generalmente por conveniencia o porque el juicio se les puede llegar a nublar un poco.

That is what happens here. It turns out that magic being so present in people's lives can be harmful if it is misused and yes, that's what ends up happening. When it is used incorrectly, it can generate problems in people and they turn into some kind of demons when they come into contact with the skin. These creatures usually expose some fear of the person in question and end up attacking all human beings around them. That is where these wizards come in, and with armor called molds and weapons that work with magic itself, they end up annihilating these demons. The plot is quite simple but it is true that it has certain elements that make it somewhat interesting, there is a background in the life of Stainbarg that is what moves everything he does.

Eso es lo que sucede acá. Resulta que la magia al estar tan presente en la vida de las personas puede llegar a ser perjudicial si es mal usada y si, es lo que termina pasando. Cuando esta es utilizada de forma incorrecta puede generar problemas en las personas y es que se convierten en especies de demonios al entrar en contacto con la piel. Estas criaturas generalmente exponen algún miedo de la persona en cuestión y terminan atacando a todos los seres humanos que tengan alrededor. Es ahí donde entran estos hechiceros, que con unas armaduras llamadas moldes y armas que funcionan con la propia magia terminan aniquilando a estos demonios. La trama es bastante sencilla pero si que es verdad que tiene ciertos elementos que la hace un tanto interesante, hay un trasfondo en la vida de Stainbarg que es lo que mueve todo lo que él hace.

This sorcerer has a guilt, a sin that he is living with so the plot revolves a little on how he deals with it by doing these jobs, it is a form of atonement. At the end of the movie there is a plot twist that I won't say unexpected because the truth is that I was expecting it, but at least it gives a little more depth to the story. Personally I would have liked it to have a slight detective touch because what reigns here is pure action. The plot is good enough for that but at the end it decides to go for direct confrontations and fights; it's not bad but it would have been better.

Este hechicero tiene una culpa encima, un pecado con el que él está viviendo por lo que trama gira un poco en cómo él lidia con eso haciendo estos trabajos, es una forma de expiación. Al final de la película hay un plot twist que no voy a decir inesperado porque la verdad yo si lo esperaba un poco porque al final se nota, pero que por lo menos la da un poco más de profundidad a la historia. En lo personal me hubiese gustado que tuviera un ligero toque detectivesco porque lo que reina acá es la acción pura. La trama da para eso pero al final decide irse por los enfrentamientos directos y los combates; no está mal pero hubiese quedado mejor.

The animation is pretty cool too. It's very traditional like the ones we are used to seeing. The design of these monsters or demons are well done as well as those of the people, the movements are fluid, they are understood perfectly and in the end everything looks very realistic no matter how fantastical the plot is. An important element is the gore, there is some and that will always be a plus for me because it gives it more vividness. Blood, mutilations, dismemberments, all this is part of the fights you will see between monsters and wizards. That touch of magic with the tangible, in this case with blood, will always be a very entertaining combination to watch.

La animación está bien cool también. Es muy tradicional de esas de las que estamos acostumbrados a ver. El diseño de estos monstruos o demonios están bien logrados al igual que los de las personas, los movimientos están fluidos, se entienden a la perfección y al final todo se ve muy realista por más fantasiosa que sea la trama. Un elemento importante es el gore, lo hay y eso siempre será para mi un plus ya que le da más vistosidad. Sangre, mutilaciones, desmembramientos, todo esto forma parte de esas luchas que verán entre los monstruos y hechiceros. Ese toque de la magia con lo tangible, en este caso con la sangre, siempre será una combinación bastante entretenida de ver.

The characters have their own thing. Staibarg is a guy who has a hard time living day to day because of the remorse he has, he tries to hide it but in the end that burden is what ends up motivating him to do things you will see. Generally the darker the past the better developed the characters are. There is another one named Isaac, an agent who is authorized to be a sorcerer, who also has an interesting story related to the main character. This is a concerned, familiar guy with a zeal for justice that in the end gives a touch of "light" to the plot. They complement each other very well.

Los personajes tienen lo suyo. Staibarg es un tipo que le cuesta vivir el día a día por el remordimiento que tiene, trata de ocultarlo pero al final esa carga es lo que lo termina motivando a hacer cosas que verán. Por lo general mientras más oscuro sea el pasado mejor desarrollado están los personajes. Hay otro de nombre Isaac, un agente que sí está autorizado para ser hechicero, que también tiene una historia interesante y relacionada con el protagonista. Este es un tipo preocupado, familiar y con un afán de justicia que al final le da un toque de "luz" a la trama. Se complementan muy bien los dos.

A movie to which I give a 7/10. A very good animation and with a known story but still catches the attention although I would have liked a little more emotion. It lasts a little over an hour, I leave the trailer below.

Una película a la que le doy un 7/10. Una muy buena animación y con una historia conocida pero igual llama la atención aunque me hubiese gustado un poco más de emoción. Dura poco más de una hora, les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.

It seems to be an interesting story, but as you say, there are many like it. However, I think it has elements that differentiate it a bit from the others, so it's surely not a waste of time.

The truth is that it has a lot of things that we are already a little tired of seeing but we have to keep in mind that it is a 2009 film. Even so, it's not that bad.

Due to a time issue it's hard for me to be always watching it but every time I have the opportunity I do it and I visit the content. It is known to be the best way to build community.

I haven't seen it, but you're right that demon hunter feature is something that is used quite often but no matter how repeated it is, it still works. If I have time left I'll try to give it a try, I like this kind of traditional animation! 👌🏼

If you like the genre you might appreciate it a bit. It's not a great movie but it's more than okay to pass the time.
