(ESP-ENG) The Playlist, un drama de musica y dinero // The Playlist, a drama of music and money!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Surely many of us around here use Spotify in our daily lives, that wonderful application that allows us to listen to music anywhere with any song but, do you all know for sure how were the beginnings of this technological giant? - If the answer is NO, this is the miniseries for you. Netflix surprised me again with this production made entirely in Swedish where they explain in detail and in a very interesting and striking way how were those beginnings, a story that is full of egos, interests and above all money, that is what moves the world and much more.
We left everything that has to do with horror, which we talked about for most of the month of October, to fall into the varied content that has characterized this blog. The Playlist is a very well done production, I can tell you that, where through six episodes we learn how everything that started one of the biggest startups that have been created in recent years. If you have seen The Dropout or WeCrashed, you may know more or less the style of this miniseries where, as if it were a biography, we will explain the highs and lows of the interior of Spotify. So without further ado, let's go and talk a little more in depth about this great miniseries that is not only informative but also very entertaining and particular.
Here we are with Daniel Ek (Edvin Endre), one of the top programmers in Sweden and perhaps the world, only he did not know it yet, tired of the life he had, usually went from job to job but being so good at what he did often did not fit in the vision of the same and ended up quitting most of them. Those were the times when music was downloaded through pirate sites in the form of torrents or programs of the same nature and this logically did not suit the music industry for obvious reasons, for a whole issue of copyright, etc., which eventually sparked a war between all involved. It was here where Daniel saw the opportunity of a lifetime and with which he intended to change the future forever.
But for this he needed an ally, a business partner who would be the person to put up the money, who would take a risk with Daniel's idea in order to get it off the ground and that person was Martin Lorentzon (Christian Hillborg), an incredibly particular and unique guy but who deep down was very good at what he did. Having the idea and the capital what was left was to start looking for the minds that would be behind the final activation of Spotify, which they did but not without encountering stumbles and potholes along the way that would eventually test the entire structure of young minds. It is from here where the journey of six chapters begins, where in each of them we will see a different point of what was the beginning of everything, six different stories that end in the same place.
Continuing with what I was telling you, yes, this is a miniseries that is told from the perspective of the six most important people around the creation of Spotify. We are talking about Daniel, the creator, Petra Hansson (Gizem Erdogan) the lawyer, Martin who is the money person and co-founder, Andreas (Joel Lutzow) who was the star programmer, Per Sundin (Ulf Stenberg) who is the face of the record labels and a fundamental part of this story and Bobbie T (Janice KavandeR) who is the one who represents the artists that make life within the application. And this is the magic of this miniseries for me, that we are told six versions of the facts all under the eyes of who these people really are, we focus on how they are in their lives and how they saw the creation of Spotify through their professions.
All the episodes are really good, some more than others, but in general they fulfill very well the function which is to understand the point of view of each one in the story. Perhaps the one about the lawyer, La Ley I think it is called, is one of the best because Petra is considered one of the best lawyers in the country and to see how she changes her life to join these entrepreneurs, because at that time they were just that, is very interesting to see. Also there we will see that not all that glitters is gold and that the walls she had to face were quite big and heavy, which is also a kind of life lesson, of how to overcome everything that life throws at us. It is a chapter that I enjoyed very much.
But the thing is not only the content of each episode but the way it was filmed, the ingenuity with which each story was presented to us. In the case of Petra, the whole atmosphere revolves around a law firm, everything takes place there, you will have to see it to understand it. But the one about the programmer Andreas also has its own thing because it is one where they play with the viewer when it comes to showing us his thoughts, it is very interactive and pleasant to watch. There are so many things going on at the same time that it's impossible to get bored. Those touches are what make the difference between a simple story and this one, which in all aspects is very well done.
The characters themselves, being a biography but in the end being all very fictitious, were decent. Perhaps the best of all was Martin, the money man and I say this because he has a very peculiar way of acting, a somewhat striking personality that we often find it difficult to understand but when it comes his turn to explain why many of those things in his episode is when we understand and empathize a little more. I feel like she's the character that opens up the most within the series and that's why I'm calling her to be one of the best in that miniseries. And again I go back to Petra. A determined woman, who knows her worth and is extremely intelligent in everything she does. She for me is one of the pillars in the birth of Spotify, a very good character indeed.
Anyway, this is the story where we see a war between the record companies and these people who in theory want music to be for and from everybody. A lot of attention to Per Sundin, the representative of Sony in Sweden who is painted as the bad guy but he really is? - I highly recommend this miniseries because it teaches us that beginnings are never easy, that there will always be discrepancies and that you have to think about everything when setting up a business or whatever you plan to do, nothing can be left to chance. But above all, the work of others is sacred. I give it an 8.5/9 because it grabbed me as it's a world I quite like and the way they gave us this miniseries is very good. It is on Netflix and each episode lasts about 50 minutes. I leave you the trailer so you can take a look at it.
