(ESP-ENG) The White Lotus, rarely addictive // Raramente adicitiva!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
I am clearly arriving late to this boat that takes us to the famous hotel in Hawaii, The White Lotus, and I say this because the review that I will talk about today corresponds to the first season of this series and because I know that a couple of days ago culminated the second season and with a third already announced and confirmed. This story was generating me a lot of noise because there is not little talk about it, it is a series that is in vogue besides being one that has been highly recognized and winner of a few Emmys so I wanted to check if it is real that success and acceptance and this series is as good as many say.
The surprising thing about this work is that it began as a miniseries, in fact this first season consists of 6 episodes only, which gives me to understand that the intention to continue with this project was not something that was in the plans but the reviews were so good that they ended up renewing and thus continue building this universe a little weird and full of satire with characters that from what we saw in this first season at least will be endearing and difficult to forget. Let's talk a little bit about the first vacation at the White Lotus.
In this trip we go to Hawaii, that paradisiacal island to rest and forget the problems we may have in the day to day and for that we choose the resort or resort called The White Lotus which is on the shores of the sea. For this new vacation we will have three different stories and on which we will be pending in this first season, a family with two children, a newlyweds who are on their honeymoon and a lonely woman with a big bag of problems and insecurities. All of them will arrive to this beautiful hotel to clear their minds and enjoy a unique paradise and will be welcomed by the general manager and other workers, all of them with the best disposition to help, don't forget this.
But not all that glitters is gold and being in a paradise is not synonymous with vacation and as the plot progresses we are going to realize that things and situations begin to happen to all these people and the workers themselves that without giving them much importance will end up turning their lives upside down. How everyone deals with these problems that will be generated is the attraction of this series because each situation is different, there is a sea of personalities and may at first doubt a little if you really want to follow this path but I guarantee that if, it is a very strange series but ends up being as I said in the title very addictive to watch.
The premise of the series is very simple, nobody is perfect, no family, marriage or person escapes from that statement and that is demonstrated throughout the six episodes of the season through situations that the truth is more common than you think but we are exposed with a comic and even satirical touch that is what ends up being the hook of the plot, as everyday problems are increasingly becoming something bigger. Satire is the key word because I think this series is, it is a criticism of how certain society is, their relationships and how they seek to solve problems, which believe it or not the latter depends a lot on the economic and cultural status in which they are and this is seen a lot here.
It's complicated to talk about it because I honestly haven't seen anything like it in years, it's one of those series that at some point you may ask yourself, what am I watching? or why am I watching this? - and you might not get the answer and it might be one that goes beyond curiosity, mere gossip and how absurdly addictive it becomes to follow the problems, arguments and collapses of people with a lot of money. And it is an avalanche of things, a series of events that are generated thanks to a spark and that finally end up involving everyone in a super organic and even casual way.
Insecurities, mistrust, fears, value judgments, controlling and possessive people, all these are some of the things you will see here, you will see how these characteristics are hidden under a shell that apparently is perfect to the public eye but thanks to a minimal crack the real people can come to light, people who in the end are like all of us in the sense that they are full of problems but the way and manner of dealing with them is what dictates the final path and how we end up being. Leaving a little of the plot and its contexts there are a couple of things that I really liked, the soundtrack is amazing, the intro of this series I can have it as a ringtone and dance to it because it is very good, really the best of the series and secondly all the shots, scenes that served to support the plot, the whole way it was recorded is very top, visually it is also very worthwhile.
But the real strength are the characters. It must be said that the cast is of great quality, great actresses and actors who gave life to some very particular stories. Alexandra Daddario, Connie Britton, Murray Bartlett, Sidney Sweeney, Jennifer Coolidge, Steve Zahn, etc, are some of the names that graced this first season in which I highlight two: Tanya McQuoid (Coolidge) and Armond (Bartlett). The level of these characters is epic, the way of interpreting Jennifer Coolidge is abysmal, all her characters have a great impact because her way of acting is unique, this time she is the "broken" woman with a myriad of psychological problems of dependence and control, she is a very funny character to see within the disaster that she is as a person. It is the best of that series I would dare to say.
And the hotel manager Armond is another great character, a guy who hides many things and which is super condescending to people, is another who unknowingly has many problems to solve and see how throughout the series is losing his temper, for a particular reason, is another of the great stories worth paying attention. In general there are very good characters but they have a common denominator, you don't empathize with any of them because even though they have problems they try to solve them in a very artificial way so in the end they are hostages of their own personalities.
A strange series in the good sense of the word, without thinking I'm going to see the second season and possibly see the third. It is a plot that is not a plot because what follows are the "personal" problems of each one and that is what makes this series so different and like it so much. I give it an 8/10 because the performances of everyone are spectacular, the music throughout the series is brutal and that all the setting, outdoor scenes and locations were also things that gave a lot of value. The two seasons are on HBO Max and each chapter lasts about an hour. I leave you the trailer so you can see what it's all about.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.

Si sale Alexandra Daddario y la mama de Stifler pues es una serie cargada con mucho humor y cosas bizarras, gracias por compartir :D
The White Lotus was one of last year's best. Due to its success they ordered new seasons and turned it into an anthology series. I also loved the second season.
Now I'm just catching up.
I started watching the second season and it's a marvel, same format, different lives and locations. Truly one of the best I've seen.
Cheers my friend!
