(ESP-ENG) The Witcher, la sucesora de Game Of Thrones? // The Witcher, the successor to Game Of Thrones?
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
It's true, I'm a little late regarding the release date of the second season but there have been so many things to catch up with that it's better to go in order so we don't skip any of them. Finally I was able to finish watching one of the top series that Netflix has right now, it is so top that before the seasons are released they already announce the next one, this one came out on December 17 and the third installment already has a date, September 17 this year.
The question of the title I asked myself while watching it, is it possible that this series is able to even match what GOT has done? - And although comparisons are very odious, my answer is affirmative only if they follow the magnificent line they are taking and of course it will also depend on its duration; because by style, stories, narrative and plot it is too similar to the stories of George R.R. Martin. But well, what we came to, let's talk a little bit about this second part.
We start this second season obviously right at the end of the first, with the meeting, thanks to the same fate, between Geralt and Ciri and it is from here that the adventure begins. Knowing the dangers that lie in wait for the young princess, our sorcerer decides to take her to the best possible place in order to guarantee her safety, Kaer Morhen, the place where Geralt grew up and therefore where the people he can trust the most at this time are.
In parallel things are also happening and is that a war for supremacy and power is taking place between kings, demons, elves and humans themselves in which logically our protagonists in one way or another will be involved. But the real detail here is that beyond this terrible war that is being waged, Geralt will have to take care of Ciri with everything he has to protect her from something much more powerful and that is inside the young girl.
After watching this second season, I could tell you that I liked it a little more than the first one, even though the first one was quite busy and had all the hype of the novelty and not knowing very well what we were going to find. With this second part I saw that they did something a little different from the previous one and it was much easier to understand the plot and the thread of the story; and part of that is because of the style that also changed slightly.
Undoubtedly we are facing a plot a little calmer and introspective where we also see a Geralt a little more human motivated by the fact that Ciri is under his mantle and by his relationship with Yennefer, all this has made a dent in the character of the sorcerer to appease a little. It does not mean that we will stop seeing his warrior side but it is true that we are in a season where the story and the origins behind it are more important than the same fast-paced action we saw in the past.
But then, is there action or not? - Yes, there is, less but it is present. And the important thing is that these scenes are excellently achieved since there are battles of all kinds, against monsters, between mages, demons, the typical hand-to-hand combat between humans that give that "gore" necessary for the series does not lose its charm and in the end is eye-catching and attracts attention.
When I say that we could be facing a possible successor to Game Of Thrones, the truth is that I don't think it's so far-fetched and if you look at it, there are all the ingredients for it: a story that gives a lot and is very attractive, the eternal struggles between kings and fantastic beings, humans always looking to survive as best they can and of course the struggle between good and evil represented between those who have power and those who have powers, which is not the same thing, my friends.
Apart from the obvious in saying that Geralt (Henry Cavill) is the main protagonist of this story, in this second season the focus is taken by women and Ciri (Freyan Allan) was a great surprise, a young woman who has to make a niche in front of the other witches is something that made the story a little more refreshing and on the other hand Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) who although it may not seem much of the weight of the plot is carried by her. Personally, she is an actress that I like a lot, I did not know her but with everything I've seen of her in this series we should not be surprised if we continue to see her in other productions.
It's still a top notch production and I'm sure we'll continue to see that come season 3. I'm not saying it's going to dethrone GOT but I do wish it would start to take that possibility seriously, it clearly has all the elements to be able to do so but that won't happen overnight considering Netflix is adept at cancelling series for no reason.
A magnificent series that those who have not had the opportunity to see it I invite you to do so because it is the best there is currently in this style. I give this season a 9/10 because despite being a little more relaxed it does not lower the intensity and the story as it progresses gets more and more strength, plus those physical and power struggles between wizards, sorcerers and strange beings are really incredible. Remember that intensity is not only action and fights.
You can enjoy it on Netflix and this last season has 8 episodes of about an hour each. I leave you the trailer as always for those who are a little late to cheer up and take a look.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
