Hello there Hivers, hope everyone is safe and doing well despite of the rising cases of Omicron virus. For today’s content, I will be sharing some snaps of the busy street of Colon, Cebu City. These snaps were taken during the post typhoon Odette\Rai hits Cebu City and its provinces. During those days people tend to look for basic utilities especially electricity since the entire Cebu was in total black out, while most of the electricity provider of Cebu were severely damage of the typhoon as well. And the only way to produce electricity by that time is to have a generator set, so we decided to get one. Right there and then, we travelled more than ninety kilometers all the way from the town of Alcoy to Cebu City. Below are some of my snaps I got when we arrived in Cebu City particular in the areas of Colon Street which known to be the oldest street of Cebu and the busiest as well. At the same time, I turned these photos into Black and White for these will be my entry as well for the #monomad challenge of @monochromes.

Upon arriving we immediately head on and stop by every machinery store we walked along the way and asked if there is still generator set available. Unfortunately, most of it were sold out, it is expected that the demand of generator set was high on that time. And most stores take advantage of the rising demand as most of them doubled the price of the machine. Almost every machinery store we walked along placed a notification saying “Hurot Na” which means in Visayan language as sold out.

Aside from electricity, water has been one of the most essential during those times especially the drinking water. Since there is no electricity, water refilling stations can’t operate in full swing therefore water is also limited at that time. Just like in the photo below, as you can see a man selling bottled drinking water placed in buckets which used to sell 15 Pesos way before the typhoon, but during those times it doubled its price as well which sells at 30 Pesos by that time. You see everything that is essential on that time has doubled its price from water to generator set and so with the gasoline as it is needed to operate the machine.

As we continued traversing every corners of Colon street we finally found the only store that has a remaining generator set, selling at the price of 1,570 USD or equivalent to 80,000 Php more or less, as it is a heavy duty machine, running at a high wattage work load.

Due to the rising demand one individual purchased the machine with no hesitation. With the price alone we can’t afford to purchased such expensive one so we ended up bringing nothing. Gratefully after a few weeks later the electricity came back earlier than we expected. Since electric companies prioritized to give electricity on national highways and homes that are along with it.
