Greetings my dear friends, I hope you are very well and that you are having a super great day, today I want to talk to you about something I learned some time ago, thanks to someone who gave me the right help, today I want to tell you how I learned about assertiveness and how it has helped me to avoid many negative things.

Some years ago, I visited a very good psychologist, who I saw weekly without fail, she taught me many useful things, to begin to better understand my emotions, control them and also drain them properly, at the time I did not see it that way, so it was a little heavy for me to go to consultation.

Among so many things that I told her, I guess she noticed a tendency in me that was causing me a lot of damage, but that in the long run would cause me even more, so she invited me to investigate about assertiveness and recommended me to read a very good book, which to this day I do not forget "It's a matter of dignity" by Walter Risso.

This book made very clear what assertiveness was, something that until that moment I had never heard of in my life, but that I am very grateful for, among so many things my psychologist at that time, invited me not only to learn about it but also to put it into practice, I remember that she used to give examples of things that could happen and invited me to analyze what would be the right way to handle it, without hurting our self-esteem.

As I mentioned at that time I did not give it the importance it should, I was somewhat young and silly, but as time went by I realized many things that before I did not and I saw the importance of assertiveness in life, especially when in a passive way I accepted things in my life that I did not really want and that in the long run only brought me emotional discomfort.

Sometimes, when we keep quiet about these things, and we agree over and over again to do what we don't want, just for not saying no, we accumulate inside a sea of emotions that can make us explode later, and cause worse things than what we would have caused just by learning to say no to people and that's it.

Basically, assertiveness is a super cool social skill that helps us to respect ourselves, to express our feelings and thoughts without feeling guilty about it and something super important, to set limits to people, especially our family members, who sadly are the ones who disrespect our limits the most.

Of course this skill is not easy to learn for everyone, in fact due to my personality I keep working on it always, and I have set a goal to get better at it this year, for my mental health, because it is something that at this point in my life is affecting me more than ever, and has led me to distance myself from many people, and wanting to do it even more, to avoid having to deal with it.

But, I am very grateful right now, to have week after week attended those sessions in which I was taught in a proper way about this skill and how developing it correctly, can bring to our life that tranquility we need, just by setting clear limits and respecting the limits of others, at the same time that we protect our self-esteem.

Maybe it is time that we learn to develop social skills to protect our poor mind, which is already hurt enough by all that it has seen daily, so yes, let's visit the psychologist and let him help us to manage our emotions in the right way, all without exception we need this, and maybe if there was not so much ignorance on the subject, people would not be so hurt.

I hope you liked my publication, but most of all that it has helped you in some way, thank you for taking the time to read my publication friends and see you later, we will read each other next time.
