The new platform will build upon the successes and failures of the past to create a strong, resistant blogging platform.

Dan Larimer @dan has announced new branding for ClarionOS and Eden on EOS. His new vision, called Fractally, he says, will finally deliver on the original vision presented by EOS in 2017.

Writing in a blog Larimer said that his project would be “combining a decentralized exchange, a social media platform, and a high-performance smart contract platform with the most advanced decentralized governance process in the market.”

To help with the launch, he has hired John Williamson, the founder of Violet.Garden and together they are working on bringing a well-governed social media platform to EOS. The new project, he says, will build on the lessons from his previous ventures, BitShares and Steem, and will incorporate the principles of decentralised governance outlined in his book More Equal Animals – the Subtle Art of True Democracy. According to Dan, these principles have previously been tested by Eden on the EOS community.

The road to Fractally

BitShares allows anyone to create, distribute and exchange tokens with a simple interface, without the need for a smart contract. It was the first DeFi platform and remains the highest performance decentralised exchange on the market to this day. It also introduced the concept of a decentralised autonomous company (DAO) to common parlance.

With Fractally, Larimer intends to produce an application that is “just as powerful and even easier to use while also incorporating more recent advances in automated market makers.”

Steem, meanwhile, was the first social media platform to hit the blockchain and utilised a model of rewarding users for posting – a model which would also be used by Voice.com and Bywire. It grew quickly to become one of the top 1,000 websites in the world according to Alexa and, while it didn’t take off as quickly as he hoped, the original Steem community can still be found on Hive.blog. Fractally will build on that model, bringing incentivised blogging to EOS while mitigating the potential for abuse.

Decentralised governance

A key part of his vision is decentralised governance outlined in his 2020 book More Equal Animals. The fractal governance process has been tested successfully with the creation of Eden EOS and the hosting of three elections to date involving hundreds of people.

Fractally will leverage all that was good about these platforms while building on anything that didn’t work. For example, he sees Fractally as solving many of the token weighted voting issues experienced with Steem by using the lessons learned by Eden’s progress so far.

In hiring John Williamson to head up the project he also hopes to build on the benefits of Violet.Garden which he says “was able to leverage the strong uniqueness of Eden users to implement Universal Basic Income and a Sybil attack resistant blogging platform on EOS.”

As always, time will tell how this will unfold, but this represents another exciting feature in EOS as it seeks to become the revolutionary blockchain everyone hoped it would at launch.

I gave up on all of Dan's stuff a while back (except Hive indirectly). Maybe this time he will get something to stick ;-)
