September 15, 2022

Having a strong immune system will help us to have good health and reduce risk from common sicknesses like cold and cough.

Calamansi (citrus microcarpa) is common here in the Philippines. It is also known as calamondin, Philippine lime or Philippine lemon. It is mostly known as lemonsito in our cebuan dialect or language. This is also one among many citrus fruits which is rich in vitamin c.

Its prices in the Philippine market varries from place to place and weather. Here in our municipality, sometimes it will go down to 25/kg ($0.5/kg) and sometimes it will go up to 60/kg ($1.2/kg). Last time I went to the market and bought calamansi and it is in 45/kg ($0.09/kg).

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid is essential and needed by our body to help boost our immune system. Our body can't store vitamin c so we need to have it daily through food, fruits or supplements but having it from food and fruits is much better for me because its natural.

In our family, we don't have vitamin c supplements but me and my husband always want to have fruits on our table because we all know that we can get a lot of vitamin in fruits.

Calamansi is abundant here and we usually bought them from the market. We used to have a juice from it as a source of our vitamin c and at the same time our immune system booster.

This might be easy for others but let me share how we have a natural juice and natural immune system booster with calamansi.

I prepared atleast 10 calamansi for this morning. I also have dark and green honey to be added as a natural sweetener. Never mind our green specially our dark honey that it is almost empty because I also let my son drink it as his natural vitamins. He wanted to have it daily but I just let him if we don't have fruits. I won't give him honey if we have sour soup, passion fruit, guava, apple, oranges, banana or any fruits.

Tips: Choose calamansi with smooth skin as it has more juice compared to calamansi with rough skin.

We have to wash it first before slicing or cutting it into half then we need to squeeze out its juice. We need drainer so we can separate its juice from the seeds.

My son really wanted to help, wanted to participate, wanted to do it, so, I allow him to help in squeezing. But before he started squeezing he first asked me if he could have one so he could drink or sip the juice directly. Look at his face, he seems didn't feel the sour taste of calamansi.

My husband eat it as a whole sometimes and he will just spit the seeds after. He would do that when he have colds and/or cough because it can also helps.

Here is the pure calamansi juice amd this is all we got from ten pieces calamansi.

I then add some water to make it a glass or mug of calamansi juice.

I then let my son choose what honey we should use, either dark or green honey and he chooses green so I added two tablespoon of honey as its natural sweetener. So, the color of the juice right now is not orange but now green.

He then also plead one tablespoon of green honey for him. Yes, he loves it.

I then put it in his water bottle so he could bring it to school.

That's it! It is so easy, right? So you can have your calamansi juice in your home anytime if you want and you will have your natural immune system booster. Just find some calamansi in the market. You can also have it to help you when you have cold and cough. Calamansi is also a natural medicine.

Nowadays, cold and cough is common because of the weather which changes from time to time. In fact, many of my son's classmates were absent on their class this morning because they have cold and cough. So, we really need to make our immune system strong and having a good intake of vitamin C can help.
Fruits rich in vitamin C like calamansi, lemon, oranges, pomelo, guava, passion fruit and many others are so better to have it these days because they could help boost our immune system. Have at least one of them everyday to have a natural immune system booster.

We are living in a municipality but we can still find a lot of fruit trees around. This is also an advantage to those who are living in the country side or in a place with a lot of fruits. Fruits are so abundant in our place and you can see them around. There are lots of fruit trees here in our place but the fun things is that -- it is not ours, lol. But we can always ask some from the owner or we can buy it at a lower price and not to mention you have more additional for free. Sound good right?

Fruits that can be found here are guava(native, those small ones), mango, cotton fruit, marang, chico, durian, rambutan, lansones, jackfruit, mangosteen, star fruit, star apple and many more others to mention and lastly pineapple which can be found everywhere.

Anyway, I would like to share that passion fruit is also rich in vitamin c and we also eat it or we make a juice out of it if it is available.

My son really loves it too. We always introduce fruits to him because we know that fruits is so beneficial for our body.

All photos are mine except lead image.

Eat fruits. Get vitamins. Be healthy.
