Jackfruit candy: a home made bread spread
January 25, 2023
Most people do love bread with some spread and Filipinos are not exempted with it.
Bread spread or sandwich spread comes in different flavorand even texture. Peanut butter is one of the most common sandwich spread in the Philippines.
I am one of those many people who really love bread and I love them most if their are some spread in it.
Have you tried to make your own bread spread? What is it? Can you share it here too? Or you can also put it in the comment box below.
For this blog I want to share to you my home made bread spread, the jackfruit candy.
Free jackfruit
Last Sunday, my uncle in law (uncle of my husband) gave us some cabbage and eggplant from their farm. He gave us four cabbages. I know cabbage will rot so easily and it is not practical to let it stay for a long days plus we don't have refrigerator to help us make it fresh even until many days. What I did is that, I gave one to my mother and I gave one to our neighbor. It is also a way of sharing the blessings we received. Our neighbor is happy while receiving it.
When giving we didn't expect any return but unexpectedly, after a few minutes our neighbor call my name and she handed us a slice of jackfruit. It didn't ended there because later on, she came back with another slice of jackfruit. She said, the jack fruit is already over riped and it is good for jackfruit candy.
I just keep it because we are about to leave for a Free travel.
On Monday morning, I checked it and yes it is already over riped and it is really good for jackfruit candy as what we call it.
Let's make jackfruit candy
Ingredients:
Jackfruit
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
Procedure:
Remove the seeds from its fruit and it will look like in the picture above. Seedless!
Shred the jackfruit to make it more easy to eat and cut.
In the pan put two cups of water. Let it boil.
When the water is boiling, add one cup of sugar. You can also put a less sugar or more sugar depending on what you want. If you want it to be more sweet then add more sugar in it.
Stir it occasionally until the sugar is dissolved.
Add the shredded jackfruit and stir it occasionally too to avoid sticking in the pan.
Wait until the water and sugar will become a little bit sticky.
Stir until no more water is remain and the jackfruit looks so tender.
I'm sorry, I forgot to take picture when it is already done.
I just took this when my son asked for a sample for him to taste it.
Let it cool and you can now spread it in the bread.
We buy cream or slice bread because we have now a jackfruit spread. Put some jackfruit candy in one side of the bread and you have a sandwich now.
Enjoy eating, it's yummy.
That's my home made jackfruit candy used as bread spread. It is so easy, right? You just need jackfruit, sugar and water.
I always says, I am not a good cook but I always love to try cooking something I don't know yet as long as the ingredients are available and affordable.
To be honest, this is my first time cooking jackfruit candy and I was satisfied with it. It's not bad for the first timer, lol.
I, my son, his cousin, my husband and our neighbor was able to try my jackfruit candy as we have our simple merienda being shared to them.
If you haven't tried cooking it, then you can try it soon.
