It's Sunday, and there is another weekend engagement concept by the challenge master sir @galenkp.

We have 3 topics to choose from and today I chose The no-device weekend.

You have no computer, mobile phone or gaming console for the entire weekend. Write at least 350 words about how you feel and why and how you handle having no devices to occupy yourself with.

I am doing it!

Yes, you read it right. For how many years it's been my practice to have no gadget day. Every friday around 6pm to Saturday 6pm I chose not to use my cellphone. It means no internet, no watching of videos, no video call, no chatting, no blogging and no business transaction. I opt to turn off my cellphone or turn it into silent mode and just put it in my bag or in a drawer.

You might ask what I am doing in the entire 24 hours? I am preparing food for our dinner early to have our dinner early too. We then prepare ourselves to attend a vesper worship at 7:30 in the evening. It was just a walking distance from our house. I always be glad not to keep on using cellphone while at church. By doing so, I can focus and I can listen very well.

The worship will last an hour or more depending on the worship speaker. Most probably, we could reach home on or before 9 in the evening.

I am always looking forward for friday evening because it is the only time that I can sleep early compared to the other days which I sleep the earliest at 10pm and usually about 11pm.

I am also happy when Saturday comes because I can rest from my daily labor, I can rest using my cellphone, I don't need to do the laundry but I only need to go to church and listen the word that will give us truth, the word the will enlighten, strengthen and brighten my outlook in life. It is a day to be with the brethren with the same faith, it is also a day to worship our Creator and Redeemer. A day to let our spiritual life grows and a day to let our physical body rest. It is also a time for family, time to be with them that no gadgets will grab your time for them.

We went home in the late afternoon or early evening and prepare for dinner again. That's the time that I will open my cellphone again and the time to read messages and back to online world again.

It is my practice, it is my choice, it is my decision and above all I, myself can benefit having a day without cellphone.

No-device Sunday

If ever, I can't have my gadget too during Sunday, for sure I can cope with it too. It wouldn't be difficult for me to adjust because I can do it in a day for sure I can do it in two days too.

I remember that there is time that we don't have signals in our cellphone. It was the time that there is a typhoon in some part of the Philippines. It lasts almost a day that our neighbor came to me and we ask each other if we have signals. All of us have no signals and no signal means, we can't receive a text and call, we can't send messages and we can't watch videos online. We cannot do anything in our cellphones except those who have an offline games.

Instead of murmuring what's happening, I still want to be productive and spend my time cleaning the house, inside and outside. It becomes a general cleaning day. When I clean outside beside the road and water canal, my neighbor also clean theirs and we enjoy cleaning our frontyard. We do chit chatting while cleaning. It becomes a short bonding with our neighbor that we haven't done for a long time.

If ever I would have a no-gadget Sunday for sure I will still enjoy it and will still make a productive day. What we can do within that day?

Do gardening

Gardening is always fun and satisfying. Whenever we have time for it, we will always enjoy the time sowing, planting and weeding.

Time for family

Nowadays, gadgets, mobile phone, television and internet becomes like a wall to every member of the family. The family ties seems unclear because almost everyone is facing to their gadgets. So, a day without gadget would be a great time for family to bond. A family can do a picnic, can have a hiking, a camping, a beach outing and enjoy the moment without any distractions but a precious time with love ones.

A time to read stories for the kids or a time to share experiences to the children or parents.

Reading Books

A day without gadget is a great chance to read some books you have that you haven't read it yet because you're so busy with other stuffs. You may re-read your favorite books and enjoy it again.

There's more to do during a no-device weekend, you may also opt to sleep or stay in bed whole day, you can also do general cleaning, play with kids, go out with friends and so many more.

Have you tried to have a no-device day or weekeend? If not yet, try it! and I hope you will enjoy it and cherish the moment without any gadgets.

Thank you for reading.

Leave your gadgets some time. Relax. Enjoy and be happy.

Yes you're right @teacherlynlyn. In the busyness of life right now, this is all we need. That's why having a day rest from cellphone is so good for me.

Yes, I tend to shut off the devices for most of Monday to do some leisure time with my family. Family cooking, board games, movie, whatever.
Great Ideal! @jenthoughts

This is a really great practice to have during the week and I think that it does take discipline once you have become so accustomed to having it right there 24/7 every day of the week. There is so much more to life than our electronics and that's why I love travelling to places where there just isn't any reception.

If you spend most of Friday to Saturday without your phone, you realise how productive you are without it and how much you can achieve. I think we are unnecessarily tethered to them and distracted so much of the day, going without can be a refreshing and healthy change. Well done!

You can decide a day or two without your phone @emma-h to rest from it and have enough time for yourself and for your family. Most kids right now are deprived from the quality time that should be given by their parents because mostly parents and even kids were so busy facing in each of their gadgets.

Oh Jen you are absolutely right there, phones are really doing us all a disservice when it comes to family time, it's bringing down society. I really admire the fact that you've set that time aside to simply not take part in it and devote it to yourself and your loved ones.
