November 25, 2021--We Gather Together arr. by Robert Lau

One more hymn of Thanksgiving before we move into Advent. Robert Lau's arrangement of We Gather Together is a wonderful prelude. After a brief introduction, the hymn tune is heard as a solo (I used a cornet) over a flute accompaniment. When the hymn tune concludes, the introductory music returns with a buildup of registration leading into the second verse. However, the tune is not heard throughout the second verse! Instead it is treating the harmonies only, almost like a descant added to where the the tune should be heard. A final build up of registration (adding reeds 8' and 4') leads us to the conclusion of the work.
