The Wheelie Good Truth About Cycling!

avatar

I never rode a bicycle before. I didn't think I could contribute much to a conversation, about cycling. However recently I met a lady who has been cycling for years. As this aunt went on telling me about how important and beneficial cycling is, I realized there were reasons to share the things I learned from her, whether you have a bicycle or not.

This aunt who is a real professional when it comes to cycling, said that cycling is a huge benefit for the body and mind. It makes all your muscles work out, from your legs to your neck and back. As you pedal, your heart muscle exercises too, plus you build endurance and make your cardiovascular system really strong.

According to the aunt, cycling is something that everybody can do regardless of your age or gender. Even little kids and old ladies are free to join this movement. The main requirement is to get a good bicycle that will fit your size and build.

And the aunt never tires of talking about this cycling thing at all. Although she has plenty of experience with it, she still feels she hasn't learned enough about all the benefits. Someone who loves this cycling thing will just continually motivate others to join the movement.

From what aunty told me, cycling isn't just important for cyclists alone. Even people who have never sat on a bicycle before can benefit from it. Why? Because cycling is a form of exercise that many doctors recommend everyone do, whether young or old.

But it's not just the physical side, this cycling thing has mental benefits too. According to the aunt, anytime she rides, she uses the alone time to meditate, think about life and clear her mind from any stress in the body. Cycling reduces depression, anxiety and any mental health issues that disturb a person.

And it's all this mental and physical exercise that leads to other benefits like weight loss, better sleep, increased lifespan and more energy for daily activities. Imagine just riding a bicycle for one hour every day can do all of this?

The aunt said, apart from the health aspect, cycling is also helpful for the environment. Anytime we ride bicycles instead of using gas or petrol vehicles, we reduce the carbon footprint and pollution in our community. It reduces wear and tear on our roads plus reduces traffic where we are going.

It has economic benefits as it reduces the cost of transportation and maintenance for us. It saves us the money we would use to buy fuel for a vehicle. We still get the energy from exercising too.

The aunt said from a social angle, cycling is sweeter than just riding alone, as you can join cycling clubs to meet new people and socialize. Family members can bond more if you all just go to a cycling path together to exercise.

Most importantly, this aunt who really knows this cycling matter well says to just be safe when you want to ride. Remember to wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads whenever you ride. Follow the traffic rules. Yield to vehicles while, on the road. Also make sure to maintain your bicycle to ensure it stays in condition.

Plus many cyclists have groups where they gather to chat and make friends. So even if you don't have a bicycle today, you'll have a circle you can join.

So even though I don't have a bicycle now, I've already decided to buy one just to enjoy all the benefits aunty talks about. If it's good to hear it from an experienced cyclist's mouth, then honor awaits to join the movement too.

To cyclists and non-cyclists, able-bodied and disabled, let's give cycling a try. Let's park our cars sometimes and appreciate what this simple thing can do for our health, finances and environment. It's a grade A lifestyle!

So if you are a cyclist who already enjoys it or you who have never pedaled a bicycle before, please let's embrace cycling. If aunty is raving about it like this, it means it's super fun!

Your aunt is right! You really should try it. But maybe you could first borrow a bicycle to learn it because it does need some practice before you can ride one.

I did try learning how to cycle but after falling once from the bike I got discouraged. Might look into it again. Thank you for this motivational post.
