Con este post hago mi participación en la reciente iniciativa de la comunidad de humanitas sobre inteligencia artificial, a la cual pongo sobre el banquillo de la interrogación para cuestionarle sobre su inteligencia, específicamente desde la reflexión y experiencia de la densidad de esta palabra, en efecto, cuando decimos que fulano o mengano es inteligente no nos estamos refiriendo simplemente a que sabe mucho, sino que tiene una capacidad de - como nos recuerda la etimología de la palabra - "leer-dentro", de analizar y llegar a conclusiones y/o soluciones a veces hasta inesperadas.

De hecho, es tan amplia la conceptualización que de la inteligencia podemos realizar que hablamos también de diversos tipos de ella, por ejemplo, he oído sobre inteligencia motora, artística, emocional, entre otras. Quizá por esto ya le hemos encontrado un calificativo a esta inteligencia de la computación, emergente recientemente en la manera como se está desarrollando.

En efecto, una computadora en sí misma, desde las más antiguas, que eran esas que necesitaban una habitación entera para su resguardo, incluso ya ellas fueran pensadas a "imagen y semejanza" de la capacidad de raciocinio del ser humano, a imitación concretamente del órgano rector del organismo de toda persona: el cerebro. De allí que sí es inteligente la inteligencia artificial no lo es al modo humano, lo imita y lo seguirá imitando cada vez más perfectamente hasta llegar a modelos cada vez más increíbles, pero esta inteligencia - filosóficamente hablando - tendrá un ser por participación, es decir, que llegará hasta donde el ser humano se lo permita, pero no lo podrá suplantar totalmente.

Por esta razón, a medida que escribo estas líneas me doy cuenta de que al mismo tiempo que evolucione la inteligencia artificial, ya que a penas está en sus primeras etapas, será necesaria una reflexión continua sobre la misma, por ello, ya considero estas líneas como un primer intento de acercamiento a esta nueva realidad que nos ha tocado en suerte vivir.

Y es necesaria esta atención particular al asunto porque, en realidad, la preocupación por los avances tecnológicos y hasta donde pueden llegar los mismos siempre ha existido. De manera tal que el fantasma de las máquinas que sustituyen al ser humano, se cierne sobre el mismo una y otra vez, aunque sea de manera diversa.

La manera en que esta nueva etapa de la inteligencia artificial lo está haciendo es tan vertiginosa, acelerada y profunda que por eso se amerita que lo humano y su valor por encima de cualquier invención suya se ponga en la palestra, para que no nos pase lo que a nivel teológico se llama pecado amar más a la creaturas que al creador.

Quisiera terminar por ello con una reflexión sobre al menos un par de características que tiene el ser humano inteligente y las máquinas no (al menos no a la manera humana) y son: la posibilidad de fallar y el papel de las emociones y sentimientos en las decisiones.

Lo primero me causa mucha gracia porque precisamente lo que puede parecer una debilidad humana como lo es el error es nuestra fortaleza ante la capacidad "intelectiva" de lo artificial, ya que este no falla. Por ejemplo, un operación básica en una computadora de 2 + 2 siempre dará 4, en cambio, un ser humano puede errar y decir muy convencido que es 5, aquí está su esencia reflejada de tal forma que por eso decimos "errar es de humanos" añadamos siguiendo nuestro discurso "no de las máquinas".

Lo segundo (el papel de los sentimientos y emociones) me parece lo podemos comprender si recordamos algunas películas de ciencia ficción donde las máquinas por muy poderosas que llegan a ser siempre ansían emular la manera humana de experimentar las cosas, algunas que lo realizan se sorprende porque descubren la riqueza que encierra lo humano: su libertad, capacidad de amar, angustias, tristezas, etc.

De tal manera que podemos concluir que el "momentun" actual de la inteligencia artificial puede ser una oportunidad espectacular para al mismo tiempo que lo tecnológico toma fuerza, no dejemos atrás el aspecto humano y su valor inalienable.

In fact, the conceptualization of intelligence is so broad that we can talk about different types of it, for example, I have heard about motor, artistic, emotional intelligence, among others. Perhaps this is why we have already found a qualifier for this computer intelligence, which has recently emerged in the way it is developing.

In fact, a computer in itself, from the oldest ones, which needed a whole room for its shelter, even they were already designed in the "image and likeness" of the reasoning capacity of the human being, specifically imitating the governing organ of the organism of every person: the brain. Hence, if artificial intelligence is intelligent, it is not intelligent in the human way, it imitates it and will continue imitating it more and more perfectly until reaching more and more incredible models, but this intelligence - philosophically speaking - will have a being by participation, that is to say, it will go as far as the human being allows it, but it will not be able to supplant it totally.

For this reason, as I write these lines, I realize that as artificial intelligence evolves, since it is only in its first stages, a continuous reflection on it will be necessary, therefore, I already consider these lines as a first attempt to approach this new reality that we have been lucky enough to live.

And this particular attention to the matter is necessary because, in reality, the concern about technological advances and how far they can go has always existed. In such a way that the specter of machines replacing human beings looms over and over again, albeit in different ways.

The way in which this new stage of artificial intelligence is doing it is so vertiginous, accelerated and profound that it is therefore merited that the human and its value above any of its inventions be brought to the forefront, so that we do not experience what at the theological level is called sin to love the creature more than the creator.

I would like to end with a reflection on at least a couple of characteristics that intelligent human beings have and machines do not (at least not in the human way): the possibility of failure and the role of emotions and feelings in decisions.

The former is very funny to me because precisely what may seem to be a human weakness, such as error, is our strength in the face of the "intellectual" capacity of the artificial, since it does not fail. For example, a basic operation in a computer of 2 + 2 will always give 4, on the other hand, a human being can err and say very convinced that it is 5, here is its essence reflected in such a way that that is why we say "to err is of humans" let's add following our speech "not of machines".

The second (the role of feelings and emotions) I think we can understand if we remember some science fiction movies where the machines, no matter how powerful they become, always long to emulate the human way of experiencing things, some who do it are surprised because they discover the richness that contains the human: their freedom, ability to love, anguish, sadness, etc…

In such a way that we can conclude that the current "momentum" of artificial intelligence can be a spectacular opportunity so that at the same time that the technological takes strength, we do not leave behind the human aspect and its inalienable value.
