Homosexual scenes in Disney movies (English/Spanish)
A loving greeting to all my Hive friends, today I am encouraged to write in this beautiful community about a topic that has been ringing in recent times in all social networks: The homosexual scenes in Disney movies. Throughout Disney's history, movies have always had a romantic element, from the princesses' kisses with the princes, to the particular love scenes between animals such as the spaghetti kiss in "Lady and the Tramp", or the beautiful relationship between little mice in "The Adventures of Bernardo and Bianca". However these relationships, between humans or animals, even between objects such as the love between the Teapot and the Sailboat in "Beauty and the Beast", always had a heterosexual cut, since the characterizations of the characters that made up the couple, were those of a man and a woman.

In recent years Disney has adapted its content to the needs of new generations, in my opinion this is quite positive, because changing the idea of princesses waiting for the salvation of a prince, for talented, strong and intelligent princesses who save their kingdoms, gives better references to girls of what they can become as independent women. Disney has also focused on projecting other types of bonds, such as friendships or family, a good example of which is the beautiful friendship between Ralph the Demolitionist and Vanellope, or the relentless love between sisters Elsa and Anna in Frozen.
Disney recently set out to project another equally important reality, that of same-sex relationships. These scenes did not have the same acceptance by some parents whose children consume Disney content, so the reactions and comments you get on social networks from these groups are quite discouraging.
The truth about this is that Disney did not invent homosexuality, same-sex relationships are a material reality that children perceive every day in their environment, because all children have met some homosexual person, either in the family, school, community, or in their friendship networks. So being able to see these scenes on the screens will connect them more with their reality. When we talk about homosexual scenes in Disney, we are not only referring to a sexuality issue, which by itself is quite important, we are also talking about preparing children to assume their citizenship with more respect and empathy for others.
Let's not forget that homophobia, lesbophobia and transphobia are expressions of hate that have cost the lives of many people with non-hegemonic sexual orientations, and these hate crimes have their origin in misinformation and ignorance around the subject, in addition to prejudices against people with other orientations different from heterosexual. Giving children information about this topic will help them develop a greater awareness about their sexuality and that of others, as well as the importance of validating themselves and others, a fundamental requirement for healthy coexistence.
Now, Disney is not giving deep information about this, it is just putting on screen scenes that children probably already see in their day to day, so who should give the information, answer the questions and accompany the little ones in this process? Of course, their parents, teachers, caregivers and people around them. For this, it is essential that adults review their prejudices, because now they will have to face children and give them constructive answers about the subject, not from the subjective or religious point of view, but from the real and scientific.
Children are not born with prejudices, they learn them from the people around them, they will always ask questions, because curiosity is part of childhood. If adults respond with fear, hatred or prejudice, this is what they will teach the little ones. The responsibilities with our children are growing, the best we can do is to educate ourselves, read, study and be prepared to lovingly accompany a generation that opens like a flower over obsolete social constructions.
I say goodbye for now and I hope my post helps to generate spaces for debate with your families and friends, but above all, that it motivates you to read and expand your ideas, because the world is moving fast and we can not stay in retrograde ideas. A big hug, until next time.

I really don't appreciate that Disney had to bring the concept of same sex relationship into their shows. It's like selling sexual materials to children and allowing them to become curious, thus indirectly influencing those children's decision.
Children don't have the ability to decide for themselves yet whether they want to be straight or not, hence it is improper for Disney to take the approach of adding same sex content. You don't have to force it into their shows even when it doesn't make sense, all in a bid to please the LGBTQ community.
A very subjective opinion.
Thanks for reading and commenting!!! Children are very smart. Adultcentrism makes some think they are not capable of deciding or understanding. But of course they are. Check your prejudices. Kids don't only see these scenes in Disney and sooner or later they will make decisions about their sexuality, Disney or no Disney!!!! Greetings from Venezuela!
You're right. But regardless, Disney should stop pushing it to them.
Let's be sincere with ourselves, the cartoons children watch has more influence on them than what they see out there. While I was growing up, lots of male children wanted to be Super man and spiderman, we even we went as far as keeping a spider so it could bite us when it grows so we could be spiderman. Girls on the other hand were so in love with Cinderella, Snow white, and Barbie and wanted to be all of them at once. That's how influential cartoons are.
Now, imagine the beloved Barbie and Cinderella begin to display homosexuality, wouldn't those children want to do the same because their role model does? That's indirectly making decisions on their behalf.
Disney/cartoons generally have more influence on children than we'd ever know.
Of course, cartoons have an impact on children's imagination, we agree on that. The problem is that, if they can only consume heterosexual content, it will oppose their reality, because reality is not heterosexual, it is diverse.
I'm glad you said it yourself, cartoons have imposed for years gender roles and have imposed heterosexuality as the only valid sexual orientation.
So now children will have a broader and more real imaginary about sexuality. Whether you agree or not! Greetings dear friend!!!
Disfrute mucho tu comentario!!!
A mí me gustó.
