Seguramente has escuchado decir, o incluso alguna vez lo has dicho tú, algo como: ¿Eres gay?

Orientation and identity, two dimensions of sexuality (English/Spanish)
This lack of knowledge, of course, is due to a lack of information and real sex education. But it can be very negative that so many people do not know the reality of each of these dimensions, as it can generate a lot of confusion to the youngest who are beginning to build their sexuality consciously.
Surely you have heard people say, or have even said it yourself, something like: Are you gay? But you can't tell. Or this other expression: That girl must be a lesbian, because she dresses like a man. This other one is also very common: That boy must be gay, because he is very effeminate. These and other discriminatory expressions are the result of ignorance about sexuality, because it is a multi-universe. So, let's talk a little about what each of these dimensions is:
Sexual orientation, refers to what we like, if we are attracted to men or women. Rather, what people we orient our sexual desire towards.
Gender identity, it has to do with what we identify with, you identify as male or female. That, of course, in the binary sex/gender system. There are also Queer dissidents, who do not identify with either gender, or their identity fluctuates between the two. Also in other native cultures a third gender was recognized, as in the case of the Muxe in the Zapotec culture.
Understanding this is a big step in freeing oneself from prejudices about sexual diversity. For these two dimensions have nothing to do with each other. A person who was born with male genitalia can have a female identity, and still like women. It could also happen that a person, born with female sexual organs, has a female sexual identity and likes women.
Does it sound strange to you? Well it's not, in fact it's about recognizing all the possibilities that our sexuality offers us. For our genital organs are only a small part of it, there are psychological, ideological, cultural, historical elements, among others, that intervene in our sexuality.
In the next article I will be sharing more information about this topic, since it has many aspects. Understanding it is wonderful, because we grew up in a hetero/patriarchal system that taught us to see sexuality in black and white, but we are much more than that, our sexuality is a party and we should enjoy it.

I really don't appreciate it when people generalize out of ignorance without asking questions first. Majority of the time, they're always wrong.
I also don't appreciate it whenever people discriminate others due to their sexual preference. it's something I find disturbing.

Excelente, querida @jetta.amaya .
