My first year at HIVE

I didn't realize it but it looks like it's been one year since my account was created. Just for reference, I did not start here for the blogging aspect but more for the gaming aspect of the blockchain. It was pretty tough when I started blogging but I stuck it out and I am doing quite well now. This post is just something I would write to talk about some of my struggles and some of the more important lessons I learned here.

My Adventure when I started

Incase you didn't know, I started Splinterlands 1 year ago and you can read about how did I get to HIVE here. So in a way, I heard about blockchain gaming and I decided to give it a try. As I looked for more information about Splinterlands, places like PeakD and LeoFinance quite often on the search engine results. One of the ways they recommended to earn by blogging. Besides that, I also started off by playing games like Holybread (shut down), Rising Star and many other games.

Engagement is important

It was quite tough to start and I wondered if it was even worth the effort as I didn't see myself being rewarded much. It definitely got better after I started engaging and commenting with others. This means the community was very important and I started to notice how rewarding commenting can be. While the engagement project has ended, it hasn't stopped me from commenting even if I don't comment as I did around that period. One of the biggest bonus from engaging with others is that will be more willing to look at your post in the future.

Resource Credits

One of the toughest things for new users is the lack of resource credits. One of the best places is visit is giftgiver. You can get some HP while you wait for your resource credits recover and there is also a faucet for you to get some HIVE to power up. There are also plenty of people who will be delegate you some HP while you build your own position.

Overtime so long as you don't delegate out all of your HP, your resource credits issue should disappear over time. It isn't a bad idea to keep some HP on your account for curation rewards. All of this adds up over time but my biggest drain when I first started was doing Splinterland battles and trying to blog/comment at the same time. The amount you need varies depending on how active you are but I think a few hundred is a good starting point.

My current goals

I still like to play games like Splinterlands or Rising Star but I like the social aspect of HIVE as well. To keep me accountable, I set my goals in my monthly Hive Power Up Day post and you can see my October post. So to an extent, I am focusing more on my 2nd layer communities and also on passive income tokens such as UTOPIS and LBI.

Splinterlands

untamed packs.png
When I first started, I saw how slow it was and I invested $1,000 to buy 500 untamed packs. Above is the value of my current deck ($17k) and I still have over 100 untamed packs that I have yet to open. As of writing this post, the price of an untamed pack is over $60 so I think I have done quite well.

Currently the pre-sale for Chaos Legion is ongoing and I have been selling my VOUCHERS to raise some money for the packs after the pre-sale. Even if I didn't sell any vouchers, I would only have 50 VOUCHERS by the end of the sale and the price of VOUCHERS are way too expensive. Even if I miss out on some the airdrop perks, I am happy with my current plan. Depending on how much I raise, I may sell some untamed packs depending on how things go.

Conclusion

I started with Splinterlands and it even took me some time before I started blogging. In fact I did consider stopping the entire blogging aspect but I am glad I did not. You can find me regularly at the @leomarkettalk to chat and I still believe more in the gaming aspect of blockchains. However blogging is great as I learn quite a bit and it has given me knowledge about how to proceed in games like Splinterlands as well. I hope to see myself here another year from now.

Please feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions or feedback.

Congratulations to you. One year already and 1k$ has proven really profitable on Splinterlands.

Yea that $1 was a great investment and I really wish I bought more at that price. However you can't change the past. I may sell of the untamed packs I am currently holding later to see if I can buy 500 chaos legion packs after the pre-sale.

I am happy if the information is helpful to the newly onboarded members. In particular, I think giftgiver is great incase they do not have enough HP.
