Human Nature...Like It Or Not

"The more one judges, the less one loves."

~Honoré de Balzac~

Human nature. I used to think it was simple. Straightforward. But as you mature in life, you realize that it is far from the truth. Maybe it’s because I started seeing people through the lens of my own life. Realizing how imperfect I was as a human being made me understand that human nature can't be simple. Or straightforward, because we’re not simple ourselves. I thought that I would have the time of my life writing about what I like and dislike in human nature as prompted by @Galenkp, but it’s proving a bit of a challenge so I’ll just see where I can go with this.

There are many things I Dislike about human nature but I’ll talk about this one because I got to see it in action recently and saying it grated on my nerves would be an understatement. I don’t know if there’s an actual name for it but it’s basically that attribute of humans where we project our insecurities on other people.

It took me a while but I came to understand that most of the things we claim to hate in other people and speak so vehemently about are out of fear. Because subconsciously, we see our tendencies to be like this. We know that deep down this is something we might like or it could be appealing to us in a way and that scares us so the next point of call is to get all judgey about those attributes and get all condescending towards people we perceive portray this attribute that we fear.

I had this friend and he always complained bitterly about my love for a particular boy band. He said they looked like girls and acted too feminine. Made a whole lot of noise about how guys should look like guys and it was amusing to me at that time because his reason for hatred didn’t make sense. They didn’t make themselves. If they had pale skin and doll eyes, it’s because that’s how they were born but he kept being bitter and threatened to end our friendship if I got too invested in them.

Long story short, my phone’s battery died one day, a couple of months later and so I asked to use his since I had an urgent research paper to work on. He was playing games on his PC so waved me off to use his. And you know that if you watch some type of YouTube video, you’d be getting notifications about it. And I was surprised to see videos of not just that boy band but others he’d condemned. His downloads were filled with them.

And I confronted him about it, asking why he’d have the videos of he claimed to hate them so badly. It was an awkward conversation at best, but it made me feel bad. There literally was nothing wrong with them or appreciating their music. I know it may seem mundane but this is just something I dislike about human nature. Insecurity projection. Be yourself. Like what you like. And what you don't like, shut up about it. Stop trying to force others to see it your way. (Yeah, that’s the word for it. Lol)

Moving on to what I Like about human nature which may seem cheesy or clichè is our ability to Love. I’m constantly filled with wonder and admiration seeing the things people do for those they love. Now, I know the world has gotten this four-letter word seriously misconstrued and I’m not about to talk about it but my point is how beautiful it is seeing the level of care and sacrifice and devotion people show towards those they love.

It kind of sweetens how sour life is. Seeing that no matter how villainous a person can be and no matter how imperfect we see ourselves, there is just someone or certain people that we know we would do anything and everything within our power for. That as infallible as we are, love could make us do things we’d never have imagined possible. It makes the prospect of life as a whole just seem better.

Anyways, this is my take on human nature and what attributes I like and dislike. Feel free to give your opinions in the comments. Criticisms, disagreements and compliments alike.

Image is mine.

Have a Wonderful Weekend everyone.💞

Many times some see faults in others and it turns out that those faults are present in those who judge. We criticize others for things that we surely also have.

Honestly, I don't understand some human beings, they contradict themselves too much.

The good thing, is that not everyone is like that.

@jhymi, I wish you a wonderful weekend.

It sometimes grates, seeing the way some people think. And you'd ask yourself "surely, people can't be this shallow and narrow minded." But that's just how it is, sadly.

I'm glad that you could resonate with this and I'm guessing the signal is somewhat stable at your end now. I hope you have a beautiful weekend as well dearest @germanandradeg 🤗

I never thought that human nature was simple at any time. I think it's always a complicated thing for me.
I don't love to judge others just because of how they act because I am nobody to judge others and there is nothing I can change.

That's true. There's no reason to judge when we're imperfect beings ourselves. Thanks for stopping by.✨

The group you are talking about is BTS? 🤭

I have come to the conclusion that the people who judge and harshly criticize a situation or a person, are the ones who least talk about their mistakes or acknowledge them or apologize when they make them. Human nature is complex. I really enjoyed reading you 💟

Don't tell me that you're an ARMY too or I'll shriek my roof down in excitement.😂🌺

Human nature is truly complex and quite annoying sometimes indeed. I'm so happy you came here and it's wonderful to meet you @purpleglitter 🤗

Yeah, I don't really understand why people have to self-project, maybe it has something about lying to ourselves that forces us into ridiculing things we don't like when we see it in others as a way to make ourselves seem better.

Speaking of that, I think it's annoying when some people put other people down, or revel in their misery, as a way to make themselves feel better about their own lives. I had some people in my life who did that, and I had to distance myself from them because it's hard to grow or do anything when there are constantly people there badgering you. The way I see it is, there are enough people in the world that'll put you down, so there's no point sticking around "Friends" who do the same.

Also, I'm curious haha, what's the band?

It's good that you distanced yourself. I also had people like that in my life and it took an intervention for me to see that they were killing me inside. I even shared a post about it recently. No one deserves to be punished mentally by the people that are supposed to be the one showing them the most love. Hope you're better now.🤗

The name of the group is BTS. Have you heard about them?😁

We humans are complex beings and yet simple as well. We tend to spend too much time in our heads, which distract us from what we really should be doing.
I read recently, that we should always treat others like they are being the best version of themselves, even when they are not.
Easier said than done though.
I really enjoyed reading your response xxxx

Easier said than done indeed but we can at least try. Most times we get too self absorbed to really see and appreciate the things in front of us like you said. Thanks for stopping by dearie.🤗

It's interesting that your friend turned out to be a fan of that band too. It's amazing what insecurities can do to someone, he probably disliked them before even giving them a chance.

Yeah disliking people before you even give them a chance. Doesn't make sense at all. Thanks for your warm comment. Glad you made it here.🤗

We are insecure and jealous. That's how humans are. And we are very quick to judge others. That's a toxic trait.

Your friend is obviously a critic fan. Those are fans that follow you waiting for the day you mess up. Like you said, they try to make everyone see you as nothing.

It's really uncool when people reflect their negative emotions on us. It creates a problem for both parties. Despite it being subconscious, I tend to not tolerate it when I start to notice. Our ability to love is unmatched with any other skill, full of depth and meaning.

We're all humans and are different. The way we see things doesn't have to be the way others will see it. One man's food might tend to be another man's poison.

You liked the boy band and showed them support by following up their music 🎶 but it turned out to be a thorn in your friend's flesh. Later on, he ended up falling in love with the band as well 😅. If you had dropped what you liked because your friend didn't like it, he won't have been interested in knowing more about them and liking their music as well.

#Dreemport brought me here.

Be yourself. Like what you like. And what you don't like, shut up about it. Stop trying to force others to see it your way

I love this part very much in your work. Some people just can't allow you to be yourself. They must make you see things their way. And when you don't? You are treated as rebellious or an enemy. That's the part of humans I don't like too. And also a pretentious lifestyle

There's a lot of hypocrisy in human nature and it's something we witness from people and sometimes even ourselves everyday. That's just how it is, howbeit sad. I hope you're alright dear. Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment.🤗
