Rebirth

Hello, wonderful Hive gardeners and other equally lovely lovers of gardens. Hope everyone is doing alright and is having a swell time because I am.

It's been a while since I posted here and some of you may know that it is due to the devastation that happened in my garden a few weeks back. You can find the post here if you’re inclined. Not exactly fun stuff so you can skip it if you want.

Still about that, the devastation to the crops devastated me, to say the least, but I got wonderful advice from other gardeners of Hive and that not only gave me insight on how to salvage my garden but bolster my spirits too.

So, we began the tedious work of cutting down the fallen plantain trees. The banana trees were alright and just needed a stake to support it, which we did and it’s doing quite nicely now. The plantain trees were cut. Quite a messy job but that's what makes us gardeners, isn't it? I didn’t do it though, in case you’re wondering. Left it to the big boys, but I helped in the clearing out.

The smaller trunks were piled somewhere and the really large ones that proved a little difficult to transport were just lined up. There are plans to throw them all out but not so soon.

There have been more rains, and heavier storms but the plants have managed to come out unscathed and they look absolutely lovely.

As the old plantation has been cleared, it’s giving rise to the new ones. Looking so bubbly and eager to continue the process of blooming. It gets me so excited to watch them because it’s like watching a newborn. So full of life and vitality.

The corn plants at the back have equally grown beautifully. You wouldn’t believe that they were almost goners. But those that said I shouldn’t worry were right for as soon as the sun came heavily, accompanied by a good rainfall, they stood quite tall and we were glad for it.

The corn🌽 plants at the front give me an equal thrill. Especially since they have those beautiful water leaves decorating its front. Gives the verandah quite a nature-blessed look if I do say so myself.

We have started eating the proceeds of the garden. The old corns out back were ripe and harvested and we had a really good lunch of boiled corn and coconuts. A most terrific combo. I did forget to take a picture. I blame it on the joys of eating the fruit of your labour. But I will take one the next time.

I don’t know exactly why I took pictures of this. Mum said they would look lovely as a carpet weed surrounding the orange tree but I wasn’t sure about stepping on them especially since they have such lovely little flowers. Quite adorable. But I needn’t worry because we don’t step around there often unless we want to pluck a fruit.

I don't know how befitting it is but I'd like us to see the before and after of my garden, that is, after the storm and now.

Absolutely magnificent, aren't they. This is what I call Bliss!🌺

And for my last slide, I took a picture of this little sprout one of the branches of the orange tree. I'd not noticed it before and I don’t know why, but I was enamoured by it. Just there, independent but not alone. And in my creative self, its significance was clear to me. Life. Rebirth. A new beginning. Like when all was bleak and suddenly, hope sprang forth. Maybe I'm being too poetic with just a single sprout but that's what the beauty of nature does to us, brings our all that poetic nature from within.

It was a pleasure walking you through my reborn garden. Hope to keep having more positive news to share.

Till next time.❤️

All pictures are mine.

It's truly a rebirth. I like the way that waterleaf was used to decorate the ridges where the corn was planted. Those beautiful flowers of it makes it cool.

Hello @jhymi <3

Lovely to meet you!

Really sorry to read about the devastation which the storm caused your garden. Gardening is really a labor of love and plants become like our babies haha! And I can see that you are taking the best care possible to get everything back to health as soon as possible.

Even with all the damage, it looks like you have a really beautiful garden!!! It looks like a mini jungle!! I would love to see some more photographs!

Hi Tessa :)

I do look forward to seeing more about your lovely garden. I garden too and also have quite a nice big space, but definitely not an awesome jungle like yours, lolz! I do plant to do some garden adventure posts too at some stage. I have been a little lazy these days, but you have inspired me to get my act together!

I am glad I found your post and am happy to have connected!

Have a wonderful Thursday and we will chat again soon!

That's some lovely water leaves, a bit jealous that you can simply pluck what I have to pay 100 naira for measly bundles 😂😂

I love how green and alive your garden is. I'm glad you were able to get it back, it must have taken a lot of work. It's beautiful when you love what you do and want to give it that touch you have.

Yeah, it's quite fulfilling to say the least. When you pour in your love into something, you can only bask in the satisfaction of seeing that your input is yielding maximally. Thanks for your time.🌺

As someone who has a lot of experience with plantain plantation, I can assure you, the plantains will be back to there normal state in no time, just try to create more space between them by uprooting the tiny looking trees because tiny plantain stems tends to fall off during heavy rain fall.

They'll give way to big ones soon. I think it's mostly about the specie you get. I'm positive that everything will be alright this time. Thank you Lagos.😁

P.S: why do you keep calling it dreamport when it's dreemport?

Uyo!!!

You have a way of pointing out the obvious for me, I guess it is my auto correction that automatically change the wordings but I have not noticed until you pointed it out😂😂😂

Thanks for the enlightenment once again.

Quite a beautiful garden you've gone. Storms and winds are usually enemies of plantains and bananas.

Glad to see that you didn't give up after the destruction.

You're eating corn already?

I love the work you're doing in your garden.

I planted after that very first rain of the year that came with two months of dryness. The crops almost died but I carefully watered them each day to avoid that.

It's nice to enjoy the fruit of your labour, yeah. I'm so glad you made it here.
