My Original Character | Haze
As you guys know, I always draw in a chibi style, but sometimes, I get tired of drawing over and over a style. It would be nice to go out of the chibi style sometimes, hehe!
I want to explore more art styles. What I want to master is the anime style! Probably because I watch a lot of anime, :D. If I have time, I always watch tutorials on YouTube. Mostly, I only watch Shorts. I want a quick and effective tutorial rather than those long ones. I was thinking also to buy an art class but MEH. My poor ass is so cheap that I find ways to look for tutorials online instead. 🤣
So what I am going to share in this blog is my chibi Haze in an anime style. I am not even sure what style is this called, lol- so I just stick to saying anime style.
By the way, Haze is up for grabs in NFT Showroom!
Haze has cursed eyes that she can see unpleasant occurrences that can happen in the future. But these visions are unclear, thus derives confusion. She has the ability to inflict pain or put a curse on anyone by just staring at them. Her power can only be activated when she has negative feelings, most likely when she is angry or in a rage.
Sketch, Background, lineart, eyes
I put the picture of Haze as my reference on the top right. I first make a sketch of what pose should I go for. I searched poses from Google and Pinterest, ALWAYS! I just type what poses I like and tadaa~ Drawing is easier! I prefer those above bust poses with no complicated hand gestures.
I am not still good at drawing hands because, for me, hands are so organic and complicated. Doncha worry, we will get there~
I positioned the three floating eyes. I was actually thinking if I should fgo with four eyes, but in the end, three is better. Also, to stick with the original chibi.
On the next picture, I already chose a color for the background this time. I chose a neutral gray color. To make life easy, I just copy-pasted a one eyeball. Also, to make them uniform.
I also did the line art here. I am still looking for a good pen or brush. Usually, I customize them to fit my taste. I go for the flat brush most of the time.
Flat colors, eyes, swirls
For the colors, I just used the color-pick tool to copy the colors for the original art. I used the lasso tool to fill in the color to save time. If there are spaces uncolored, I used the flat brush to fill them in. I added more hair strand to make it more interesting.
The eyes are the most detailed in this process. For the eyes, I chose an off-white for the sclera, red for the iris, and black for the pupil. To make them symmetrical, I just copy-pasted one eye.
For the background swirls, I downloaded a border brush from Clip Studio Asset. I always go for the free stuff because some of the pens require clip coins.
On the other hand, I added swirls on the face, clothing, and body. I honestly put randomly on the original art, and now I cannot copy them exactly 🤣 So I just did my best to copy them accurately. I used a wet brush for the black tears. I also added the red glow on the back hair.
The Final Art!
This is the part where I added the shadows on the skin. I used a flat brush and blender to make the skin 3D-ish. I put darker shadows on the deeper corners. I did the same with the clothing and the hair, although it is not that noticeable. I put clip a layer to the swirls and airbrushed a red glow. To make a dark mood, I add another layer on top of everything and colored it black. I put it on multiply and lowered the opacity to 50%.
Here is like a roller paintbrush, and then the color of the paint is based on my character Jijisaur. Noticed that I deliberately put my name "Jiji". 🤣
I am happy with the outcome! Took me days to think of a logo!

As much as i love your original characters and chibli spirit that you bring to the table as an artist.... i truly think and feel you should explore other areas. Many of the artists in the Splinterlands art contests (which you are familiar with by now ( brataka, alexa.art, etc.)) would be a nice direction to give a try. I have a feeling based on your fundamental understanding of art that you would excel in those more realistic and comic styled characters. It would really show off your skills and talents artwise that hide within a chibli style. It's time to blossom!
Thanks for this input, castleberry! Those guys are really the pros and I admire them as artists. ❤️
Slowly learning and exploring more styles. Chibis are for my NFT collection. 😊
I really need a lot of art cathups since I did not really attend an art school, just self-learned.I honestly do not know what style should I go for but the closest to my heart are anime style and semi-realism. 😊
All the best, Cas!
Your new logo is perfect!! 🤩
And nice work on Haze 2.0. What a neat idea to re-visit your chibis with your new style. Maybe your next iteration can be the progression of your anime style. Keep working it, and keep having fun making art in 2023, Jiji. Your dedication will pay off for you! 😀
Thank you, Ema! Looking forward too to your paintings. 🥳😍

I was waiting for this new style from you. I have the same thing to say as castleberry. I hope you add more details on this non chibi versions in the future because your lineart is ready for that. You have the gear and skills so I think you can do it. Like you said in the comment below anime X semi realism is the current trend these days so I suggest you to look more into that. I think you will love 'samdoesart' then. He has YouTube and insta as well and he is one of the sources of my inspiration for semi realism.
About the logo, you smart smart girl🤯. The design was fantastic but putting in your name in there was brilliant. It was more obvious to me after reading your blog. That's so cool🤩🤩🤩. It has a nice premium finish to it.
Yeah, I have a lot to learn for this style :D I am practicing in my spare time to sharpen my skills too, hehe.
I always see his works on Clip Studio! :D
Thanks for the input, Solumviz, I really really appreciate it!
Have some !PIZZA!
No problem. Happy to help. The competition is getting tougher here haha. Lots of people are migrating to hive since readcash stops sponsoring. We have to up our game to get noticed these days.
Thanks for the pizza 🍕.
May I use this as a base/concept to redraw the art using my own style in the future?
Yes, sure!
