[Sketchtember 2023 W4 ] Pumpkin

Happy Sunday! 🥳

Hello! This is an entry for Sketchtember's W4 prompt! Prompts are pumpkin, chestnut, and potion. In the said prompts, choose one to create an art out of it. These are the official prompts of ArtPark. ☺️ This week, I chose pumpkin because Halloween is coming, hehe! 👻 Also, I will submit this for the Halloween initiative of the PIZZA community. Anyone can submit their art, music, and stories as long as it is Halloween-themed. Submission is open until October 8th.

Art Process

Halloween is the time of the year when cute kids in funny costumes knock on your door to ask trick or treat. 🎃 In the Philippines where I am from, Halloween is more of a commercialized thing. We do not have the tradition of trick or treat-ing around the neighborhood. Exemptions are some communities or gated residences. Normally what we do is watch horror films or wait for the horror documentaries of a popular weekend show. You can feel the Halloween spirit mostly in malls to lure kids in to buying Halloween-themed toys like scary masks, fake spiders, etc. 😆

In the first sketch, I drew a sitting pose with a pumpkin bucket full of candies. Later on, I will add more pumpkins to the background. Using a solid brush, I traced the sketch with modifications. For the pumpkin, I drew it on a separate layer to use a symmetrical ruler.

The popular colors for Halloween are black, orange, purple, and black. Since this is a pumpkin prompt, I used orange the most. I used to like the sweetest of the sweetest chocolate when I was in my teenage years. Now that I am older, I like dark chocolates and chocolates with nuts. 😆 The candies are random designs. I used a multiply layer for the shadowing.

Final Art

I added two more pumpkins on the back. I just copied and pasted one pumpkin and then flipped it. I drew more candies scattered for extra details. Lastly, I put a drop-down shadow on all the elements. I added some noise monochrome by adding a layer on top and setting it to 10 percent opacity.
