Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! | Dragon Spirit

Hello! 🥳

Happy Sunday, everyone~ I wonder what people do on Sundays? 😁

In this week's challenge, I chose Dragon Spirit to draw in my art style. 🥳 It has been a while since I drew dragon creatures. What animal do you think has the closest feature that still exists? I think it is the crocodile. 😨 This dragon is like half a serpent since it has no legs. Though fierce-looking, the colors are like cotton candy. 😆

Art Process

I want to turn this dragon into a cute and chibi one. 😁 I skipped the sketch since this is just simple art. I used this reference I saw on Pinterest. The structure of the reference is perfect for a chibi dragon. I was supposed to skip those winged ears but it looks weird without those. 😆 To keep the symmetry of the horn and ears, I just copy and paste them, which saves time too. Being familiarized with the techniques and tools will make the work faster. The more I use the software, the more I get used to the tools and shortcut keys.

On the next frame, I applied the base colors. Using again the tool color-pick and choosing the right color on the color wheel. I like to keep the eyes uniform to all chibis that I make, so I have them in a separate file and just copy the folder and paste it into this art.

Since I have already a pair of eyes ready, I just have to modify them. I first position the iris and the pupil depending on where the character is looking. And since the original card has red eyes, I changed the color of the iris. The last one to adjust is the shine of the eyes. At this stage, I keep on adjusting the nostrils, hehe. It took me time to position them in the right place on the face. The more you stare, the more it gets weird and awkward when you are the artist. I know I am not the only one feeling this. 😁

Shading time! I put a darker shade of purple on the corners. Blended them together, especially on the sharp edges. Same as the wings and horns. The scales are a brush downloaded from the asset store. I erase the edges using the airbrush.

Final Art

I just airbrushed a little shine to the body, and then a dot of a hard brush, hehe. Usually, I put detailed backgrounds like text or textured colored backgrounds. For a change, I go for a white background. On another layer, I copy pasted the character and make it larger and set it to lower opacity. 😁 I like this style, simple and neat!
