Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! | Flying Squid

For this week's challenge, I chose Flying Squid.

Art Process

Started by collecting my mood board for this art. I find putting the squid alone on the white canvas is boring... I want to put more story and element on this card. So, I was thinking of a squid taking a bubble bath with a cute rubber ducky. 😆 It is funny that this creature needs a bath yet he is in the water all his life. Making a sketch is also making the concept. Not all the time I follow what I drew on the sketch. Along the way of the art, some ideas pop into my mind. I also have to make sure this buddy has eight tentacles?? Legs?? I am not sure what to call those slimy, long parts. I Googled it and still confuses me. 😆 Apparently, the number of their legs differs from an octopus.

What is a squid's real color? I don't know! 😆 Amazing that they have color-changing powers. But for this art, I chose a light beige color for the skin and blue for the eyes. For the tub, I chose the color red. Looks like my rubber ducky is disappointed for whatever reason. 😆 For the bubbles, I used the edge pen, and set the outer color of blue and white for the inner. Then, I lowered the opacity to look transparent.

Detailing the body by airbrushing hints of pink and blue. I also did the suckers of the tentacles. I just lowered again the opacity.

Final Art

Next is putting the shadows on the tub and body. I also thicken the lines outside of the lineart. Added some noise chrome for overall texture.
