This year I made a promise to myself that I would read more books. I actually haven’t been free as I have had to balance my final year projects with school activities. Nevertheless, I have read an amazing book that I would like to do a quick review on. I think it’s amazing and you should probably look it up.

About the Author

source

Before I go into the book, I want to introduce the author of the book to you guys. The book is titled DAVID COPPERFIELD which was written by Charles Dickens. I haven’t read many books written by this author apart from Oliver Twist. I’m sure most of us are quite familiar with this book, so you would Definitely understand when I tell you this is a book worth reading. The author was born In February 1812, Charles dickens lived until he was 58. Some of his works include; The pickwick Papers, Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, A tale of two cities…. And many more.

Plot of the story

The whole story is centered around a boy called David Copperfield. who unfortunately lost his father six months after he was born. England was his birth place, Blunderstone to be precise. So he was raised by his single mother and their housekeeper Clara Peggotty. Davy as he was called by his mother wanted to get married to Edward Mudstone. but was afraid to tell her son so she had him sent away you live with the housekeepers family.

After sometime, he returns home only to find out that his mother had gotten married without his knowledge. And he immediately developed some kind of hate for his step father. Edward was a strict man who believed in harsh ways of parenting. This made living in the house quite difficult for David as a result, it reflected in his studies at school. His step father sends hims away to a boarding school which is run by a wicked headmaster called Mr Creakle.

During the holidays, David goes home find out his mother had given birth to a boy. He was very happy and after the holidays were over he reported back to school and weeks later, his mum and baby passed away. Upon hearing the news David returns home and his step father sends him to work at his wine merchant in London.

After a few months working there, David’s landlord gets arrested for being in debit with someone and sent to kings bench prison. So David decided to flee and go meet up with his aunty. Whiles his step dad fights to regain custody of David, his aunty decided to put David to school a even more better one than the one he had previously gone to.

His aunty renamed him to Trotwood Copperfield, instead of David she now referred to him as Trot. During his time at school, he lodged with lawyer Wickfield, his daughter Agnes and Uriah heeps. Uriah heeps was engaged in fraudulent activities and after the completion of school, David’s aunties fortune was all but gone. So now David had to work to survive

He took up a job and started working as a secretary day and night for his former teacher. Life wasn’t easy for him anymore. But with some encouragement and support he received from Agnes, he started writing and gained some fame through some of the fictions he wrote. A lot transpired in life there are a lot of life lessons that can be gotten from this story I don’t want to give you the entire story so I would stop here and urge to read to find out what happens next.

Dickens' stories are fabulous, both for their refined language and for what they show. I started reading this book some time ago, but didn't finish it because I had other things to do at the time. It is an interesting story. I will be encouraged to finish it. Regards.
