Hello guys I hope we are all doing great. It’s been quite sometime I shared something with you guys, that’s because I have been quite busy for the past two months. We recently vacated from school. And as part of our third trimester, we do a 6 week internship at an organization of our our choosing. I decided to do mine at HOPin Academy (just to clarify it isn’t a school). It’s an organization that aims to improve entrepreneurs with the help of tech. And they also do a lot of fun stuffs.

On the 5th week of my internship, My Dad called me and told me to seek a 7 day permission from the office so that I can assist and supervise the harvesting of our Soya beans at a sub village in Wale Wale.

I left home on a motor bike with my brother, we rode for about 4 and half hours before getting to our destination (Farm). It was late so we had to rest and also look for laborers for the job. We didn’t get people on that day. So I and my brother began the work ourselves whiles we continued to search for laborers.

We uprooted the soya beans and heap them into small bundles on farm. We did this for about 7 days without getting any Laborers. This mainly because most of the workers had their own farms to work on. Whiles others felt the work was very tiresome and demanded more money.

Gathered them into smaller heaps

Because of the the cost of fuel and the distance from the farm to our rented apartment in walewale, we were staying in the farm with no lights nor water. The only source of water was a exposed well water.

When we were coming my mum prepared stew so all we had to do was just boil rice. Eventually the stew finished and I had to go to walewale to buy one or two ingredients to prepare food.

On the 9th day at the farm we finally got laborers to do the work. They finished uprooting the entire farm in 3 days. So we collected the small heaps of spay beans at a spot i and my brother cleared.

Once we were done conveying all the soya beans, it was now time to separate the bean from the stalk. We opted to use the local way which is the tractor because using the machine would waste time.

We now hired female laborers to help in winnowing the beans and stuff them into the sacks We weren’t about to get enough women so about 3 days was used to do that.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take the final picture of the packaged beans because my phone was off and I couldn’t charge it as we had no lights there. Below is a pic of a sample I took earlier before winnowing.

I came back home after everything was completed. I seriously didn’t think I would make it back alive sleeping outside for almost a month in this cold freezing weather wasn’t easy. All I can say is Alhamdullahi for a successful Harvesting.
