"PUEBLO GRIS" - Fotografía de calle y reflexiones || ESP-ENG || (14 fotos)

This town is sometimes grey, have grey days, I mean.... And those of us who stay here, then we look at it in silence, almost accusing ourselves for not having left when others did... But the town keeps passing beneath our feet, like a tired river, almost without strength.

This town is sometimes grey and has silences, or plaintive voices emanating from the houses, unknowingly recalling better times. When the haciendas were overflowing with canes, orange trees and coffee... And the mist did not make you sleepy, but sheltered you to start the work.

It was that town of painted houses and open windows to let the sun shine in. The village of the ladies in white knitwear, with comb and mantilla, for the ten o'clock mass on Sundays.

It was that village back in the 70s and 80s, when I used to run through the square full of trees, now dead and forgotten, with a packet of marbles in my pocket to play with other children coming out of the other shift at school.

But this village is now, I sometimes say, very grey... As if it is saying goodbye in spasms of sadness, where the children and grandchildren are just pictures on the glass screens of mobile phones. Because they are gone, because they were born or exist thousands of kilometres away. They are no longer under the saman tree in the courtyard, or flying parrots in the dull streets.... No, they are distant figures that we hardly know and never touch.

This town dawns grey, because it is August, which came like the August of old, smeared with bitter rains and dampness warmed by the sun that bids between daily and sad clouds.

This town still shelters me as when I was born, because in some loggia of the house where I live, my grandmother buried my navel... "Old people's things", said Dad, who, coming from Caracas, didn't understand about provincial wisdom or buried roots, until fate tied him to the days of my mother, the girl who curbed his vices of irremissible wanderer and tied him to his loves until death took him away recently in the corners of this old house.

This town is sometimes extremely grey, but when I go out into its streets, I am more soul than body, because they say that those who have their navel buried here never stop walking through their sadnesses and joys, neither before nor after death.

I really liked this post! All the visual discourse you built! The game of reflections, and I also think that as you say "they have something" very special in these photographs.
The story is felt as well as the photos. I connect so much with that landscape that you show, that I can almost feel like I know that place, and your story brings me closer to that feeling. Great work you do my friend, thanks for sharing. A hug!!

sad to see a village like that fall in decay, no cars in the streets is hard to imagine for me , good thing you are still taking pictures so people can tell the matchiing stories in years to come.

These are hard and complex days for these villages far from the urban centres of our country... But it is the product of decades and decades of bad governmental management... But loneliness has its enchanting corners in spite of the economic vicissitudes... ;-) Thank you very much for sharing and appreciating my friend!
