Hello dear #Hive friends! Welcome to another edition of my black and white street photography series. Today I have selected some wide angle photos wich reflect the street happening outside myself, as if I was just there, witnessing each scene.

These photos, as always, are my entry to today's #monomad challenge, to which I would like to invite all those who pass by and do black and white photography. Believe me, this is the best place to share your passion for this type of photography.

Estas fotos, como siempre, son mi entrada al reto #monomad de hoy, al cual quiero invitar a todos aquellos que pasen por aquí y hagan fotografía en blanco y negro. Créanme, este es el mejor lugar para compartir su pasión por este tipo de fotografía.

Those of you who have seen some of my previous posts, will know that I live (and do photography) in a small Venezuelan town called "Montalbán".... This is quite a suitable place to do street photography, because although it is just a handful of streets and no more than 15,000 inhabitants (many of whom live in the fields and mountains far from the town centre) the streets here have a particular way of "happening" and can offer surprisingly diverse scenes.

Aquellos de ustedes que hayan visto algunas de mis previas publicaciones, sabrán que vivo (y hago fotografía) en un pequeño pueblo en Venezuela llamado "Montalbán"... Este es un lugar bastante adecuado para hacer fotografía de calle, pues si bien se trata de apenas un puñado de calles y no más de 15.000 habitantes (muchos de los cuales viven en los campos y montañas lejos del casco urbano) las calles aquí tienen una manera particular de "ocurrir" y pueden ofrecer escenas de sorprendente diversidad.

Like many towns in this country, this was a time of economic boom and growth until the end of the last century. But with the passing of time, the social and economic crisis severely affected all regions of the country, so towns like this one became depopulated and fell into oblivion. In 1997 this place had 35,000 inhabitants and its agricultural production was at its peak, as well as the presence of branches of national companies, but today (as you can perhaps see in the photographs) the situation is quite different.

Como en muchos pueblos de este país, aquí se vivió una época de auge económico y crecimiento hasta finales del siglo pasado. Pero con el pasar del tiempo, la crisis social y económica afectó severamente todas las regiones del país, entonces pueblos como este se fueron despoblando y cayendo en el olvido. En 1997 este lugar contaba con 35.000 habitantes y su producción agrícola estaba en apogeo, así como la presencia de sucursales de empresas nacionales, pero hoy por hoy (como quizás puedan percibir en las fotografías) la situación es bastante distinta.

But that same crisis that occurs and makes living here challenging has also served to turn the streets of the town into an eclectic parade of scenes. Here, the urban and the rural converge in an exquisite way, and the ability of people to overcome and move on is palpable in every street. So that, for someone like me, is an inexhaustible source of photographic material. That's one of the reasons why I love wandering the streets with my camera.

Pero esa misma crisis que ocurre y hace que vivir aquí sea algo desafiante, también ha servido para convertir las calles del pueblo en un ecléctico desfile de escenas. Aquí convergen lo urbano y lo rural de forma exquisita, también la capacidad de las personas para sobreponerse y seguir adelante es palpable en cada calle. Entonces eso, para alguien como yo, es una fuente inagotable de material fotográfico. Esa es una de las razones por las que amo deambular por las calles con mi cámara.

When you do street photography in a place like this, you start to think in terms of that instinctively. So each house, each corner, each wall, each animal in the street, each person who comes or goes.. Everything, absolutely everything, becomes an "element" that makes yesterday's street something totally different from today's street, regardless of whether you are standing in the same place.

Cuando se hace fotografía callejera en un lugar como este, se comienza a pensar en función de eso de manera instintiva. Entonces cada casa, cada esquina, cada pared, cada animal en la calle, cada persona que va o viene... todo, absolutamente todo, se convierte en un "elemento" que hace que la calle de ayer, se algo distinto totalmente a la calle de hoy, sin importar que se esté en el mismo lugar de pié.

Many of my family have gone abroad, either to more populated areas or to other countries, even my eldest son is out of here. Many of them also tend to insist that leaving this town would be the best for me and my wife... But, to be honest, will be much easier to see me ride a blue unicorn through Antarctica, than to see me leave the main street of this town with a suitcase ready to leave. There is something in this place that sustains my soul in an overwhelming way, something that has made me understand that we are much more than body and reasoning, something for which words are scarce in order to describe it. Maybe in time I can explain it, but for now I'm just "enjoying being here."

Muchos de mi familia se han ido fuera, ya sea hacia zonas más pobladas o también a otros paises, incluso mi hijo mayor está fuera de aquí. Muchos de ellos también suelen insistir en que abandonar este pueblo sería lo mejor para mi y mi esposa... Pero, siendo sinceros, será mucho más fácil verme cabalgar en un unicornio azul por la Antártida, que verme salir por la calle principal de este pueblo con una maleta dispuesto a largarme. Hay algo en este lugar que sostiene mi alma de una manera abrumadora, algo que me ha hecho entender que somos mucho más que cuerpo y razonamiento, algo para la cual me son escasas las palabras en pro de describirlo. Quizás con el tiempo pueda explicarlo, pero por los momentos me limito simplemente a "disfrutar de estar aquí".

Technical Note: All photographs are captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format and then processed using Adobe Camera Raw, this includes de-saturation, depth adjustment, sharpening, shadows, whites, contrasts and clarity. As an additional touch I have added a 1% yellow tone to the desaturated photo, this is to give a "vintage black and white" effect. Finally they are exported to JPG files and minor adjustments are made using PhotoScape 3.6.2.

Nota Tecnica: Todas las fotografías son capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW y posteriormente procesadas usando Adobe Camera Raw, esto incluye la desturación el ajuste de profundidad, afinado, sombras, blancos, contrastes y claridad. Como toque adicional he adicionado un 1% de tono amarillo a la fotografía ya desaturada, esto en busca de dar un efecto de "blanco y negro vintage". Finalmente se exportan a archivos JPG y de hacen ajustes menores usando PhotoScape 3.6.2.
