Hefty and slow or light and smart.

Hello friends.
Hello homesteaders.
Hope everything is going well?

I have been traveling for the past three weeks now, from one state in my country to another trying to sort things out.
Well, I guess it happens like that during this period in every year.
My travel experience was always cool, but this last one except for two travels wasn't cool at all.
I think I have said something about it before, though not in details but let's not go there.
I thank God for life, journey mercies and success.

I travelled and left my chickens with someone to take care of them, until when I am back.
During my travel time, I was worried about my chickens.
I do call her daily to know how they are doing, because I have come a long way to lose any.
She assured me each time they were doing great, I didn't want to press her more or get her angry by requesting for a video call to see them.
She might think I don't trust her, I really didn't want to upset her because I had no other person that agreed to care of them.
So I believed what she says.

The day I came back, they were outside running round the compound.
They were so strong and smart, they also looked neat and healthy.
None was sick nor showed any slow moment, they were fast and tall.

Was I pleased?
Of course I was, I was happy and glad to see them alive.
I thanked her and gave her what she made me promise to get for her.
When she left, I was somehow not entirely happy with how my chickens look.
I want a fat full of flesh chicken, I know this could have made them not to be so smart.
But if I am really going to put one or two for sale, people go for ones that weigh high and this could cost me to cut price when selling.
This factors matter a lot to buyers, but I should also remember the cost of feed is now high.
Now I am confused 🤔
Should I leave them like this or buy more feed, why are they eating plenty?🥺
Please help me?
Any opinions......
Will really appreciate it.

Till we read next time I guess.
Thank you very much for stopping by my blog.

Thank you very much Ben.
I think I will have to get meds for fatness too.

With the right feed and by restricting their grounds you should be able to get the same results it won't be cheap though at the moment

do what you have to do with the chicken, I believe you have better knowledge that I am.
I am guessing that it is because the chickens are free that makes them also light, happen the same here in my place for chicken that is free.

I think so too.
Maybe I will feed them more and reduce their free time.

Hi Jmis,
I think you have every right to see your chickens and you shouldn’t have a problem making a video call because it’s business and not trust.
I don’t know much about it but more about the amount of weight you should bet and say look it’s true that they weigh less but they are of better quality.
If feed costs too much then start studying how you can self-produce or increase the price a little by checking that it remains competitive.
Other breeders also have the same problem study as they do!

Yes I understand but it wasn't easy finding someone to care for them.
She really tried, I think the problem must be from the freeing them to walk around most times.

start studying how you can self-produce or increase the price a little by checking that it remains competitive.

Will look more into this.
I was using cornstarch shaft to mix it with the feed, but since I wasn't around I couldn't get this.

I hope they add a little weight soon.
Thank you very much dear for this.

They are not looking bad.
If you don't have money for feed, you can get a drug for chicken fatness.
They sale those in the market, but you will still have to increase how you feed them and limit how they walk around.

Thank you very much dear.
I was already thinking about this.

Try to sell it as is. If the price is too low, then you should consider continuing to feed them. I think you can calculate how much it will cost in advance and make a decision.

Yes, sure.
I think I will have to do some calculations first.
Thank you very much dear for this.

From the pictures I think they are broilers, if you want to sell them fat you have to give them the proper feed, the problem is the cost of feed because this type of chickens eat a lot, you have to get your account right so that when you sell them you don't lose money.

Anything nutritious for them to eat is fair game - doesn't have to be "feed", could be bugs, or grubs or really anything!
