LA CIUDAD Y SUS GRITOS


Puño en alto, vuela el paso
Y los rincones se apartan de las piedras.

Ya el agua no corre por las calles de antes, ahora se despeña por callejones ciegos.

En las paredes de aquella tarde
Hay marcas de uñas,
Garabatos de tiempos inmemoriales
Que semejan animales fantásticos
Escapados de imaginaciones infantiles.

El loco de siempre se pasea por las grietas sin pisarlas mientras murmulla algo entre dientes.

Recuerdo que solía pensar yo de niño que masticaba palabras decentes y escupía las groserías en la cara de las señoras que salían de misa.

Reconozco que ese pensamiento me traía cierto gozo culposo, total alguien debía decir lo que nadie se atreve.

Ahora que soy yo quien se pasea por grietas, que se despeña por las calles donde ya no corre el agua.

Ahora que soy la ceguera y el callejón
Desnudo las piedras y duermo en los rincones.

Soy mientras todas van o vienen. No importa.
El hijo de la ciudad y sus gritos.

THE CITY AND ITS CRIES


Fist in the air, the step flies
And the corners turn away from the stones.

The water no longer runs through the streets as before, now it runs down blind alleys.

On the walls of that afternoon
There are fingernail marks
Scribbles from time immemorial
That look like fantastic animals
Escaped from children's zoos.

The usual madman wanders through the cracks without stepping on them while mumbling something between his teeth.

I remember I used to think as a child that the madman chewed decent words and spat the rude ones in the face of the ladies coming out of mass.

I admit that this thought brought me a certain guilty joy, someone had to say what no one dares to say.

Now that I am the one who wanders through cracks, who falls down the streets where the water no longer runs.

Now that I am the blindness and the alleyway
I bare the stones and sleep in the corners.

I am while they all come and go
It doesn't matter.
The son of the city and its cries.
