Penny Wise But Pound Foolish

I find it interesting how we relate with money, it is a very vital need in our lives, call it the root of evil, the source of happiness or whatever best describe money for you and you are right. The reality though is money is essential for survival and there's no denial about that.

Money's role in our lives makes us react differently to it, some are emotionally attached, some spend without worry, it is for spending after all, while some are conservative, basically we can pull up a handful list of different money relationship behaviors.

A noticeable behavior I tend to pick up quickly and gets under my skin is being penny wise but pound foolish.
Last time I accompanied a friend to do her monthly groceries, we stopped at a restaurant to get some take away for her mom, I was tasty and needed water, on her menu order I asked for a bottled water and she turned it down saying its too expensive here we will get water elsewhere. It was a strange moment, I ignored the act and let it go.

I get to see actions like this every now and then and to be quite frank I try not to let people like this stick around me.
You will find me acting in such manner, when it has to do with my crypto, they represent investment to me as such I wouldn't part with crypto without good reasons if it is not for investment.

I am less keen on traveling further distance so as to get something at a cheaper rate with no major price difference, it will be a complete different case if am so add up and every cent counts, other than that funds set aside for spending isn't going to receive scanty spending behavior from me.

Back on this friend that won't let me have a bottle of water because it costs some cent more, she is in several debts, with me being one of the ones she owes with avoidance attitude. I then get to wonder shouldn't this person be the one to be completely out of debt? I mean people like this seem very disciplined in noticing when a product costs less in a shop than the other.

Money, as much as we want it, how do we really relate with it?

It's not as cheap as it seems if you have to spend additional money to get an item some place else that sells it cheaper.

If we are looking at an item selling for $10,50 and the other shop sells at $10.10 or $10 for that matter and will require a distance, am sure won't be traveling to the cheaper place unless am by this item in bulk, or this place in on my way back home.

I am all for buying cheaper, but to drive from shop to shop, just waist a lot of time and then there is the cost of driving!!

We all want it cheaper but when it becomes an obsession to pull out the calculator every time calculating difference on minor things then it becomes something else.

There is also the time factor and that is also worth some value. Then again, I am not heavily into debt so I am not sure what goes through her head.

I like to approach life in the simplest of ways, there are somethings that just don't matter to me, you mentioned time factor, I have come to realize time is more valuable than I initially used to think.

If in the same mall one can consider looking around at savings, if you have to travel using time or petrol it is going to cost one way or the other, pick up what you need and go home !LOLZ

Save the pennies, stay out of debt was how we were brought up!

Exactly Joan in such scenario that is what I will do as well but having me walk longer or drive just doesn't do it for me.

Of course staying out if debt we should remember at times and never avoid those we owe.

Family and friends will walk an extra mile to avoid you when they owe you money!

Save more going to closest store checking in-house prices buying what you need, shopping from store to store is most boring!

The fact that this person is having my money and not wanting to pay is just annoying.

Nobody forced you to lend her money, this is your personal decision. When you lend to someone, you must come to terms with the idea that you may never see your money.) The one who borrowed from you does not become your slave and was not obliged to obey your rules of the game, rely only on your own strength, brother).

🤣🤣 in cases like this borrowing should be like, borrow what your are will to lose, just like investing.
Investing how we are going to be dealing with each other when money is concerned, what happened to being true to yourself and the next person.
I guess am asking for too much of a fair world.

Yes, it is an investment in friendship. If you allow a break in friendship, because your friend could not repay the debt, then this can no longer be called friendship, this is a business relationship, and you, in this situation, are a usurer, but not a friend, everything is extremely simple. Look at the situation differently.
