Come in and have a look at some of the nice little creatures I have met on my walks.

The above image is my contribution to this week's PhotoFeed Contest. The theme of the week is Macro Photography. Choosing the right image was hard, but I was so happy that the photo of this little weevil guy came out so lovely, that I had to take it.
(Pachyrhinus lethierryi: Family of Curculionidae - Wikipedia)

This week's contest has given me the opportunity to look through my macro photos which I have taken during the past months.

This ant was slowly climbing up and down the leaf for quite a while, so I could take a couple of shots ot it. Most photos look just the same, so I think one should be enough for this post ;)
In the end the ant fell down on the ground, but of course, it didn't get hurt and continued crawling to somewhere.

I know I'm not the best macro photographer and these photos are far from being perfectly sharp or composed, but it makes fun to sometimes take the macro lens with me and look for the smaller animals, which have become quite hard for me to see since a few years.
While a few years ago I only needed glasses when sitting at the computer and to read the newspaper, I now need them for everything that's smaller than an elephant 😉

Bees belong to the most important insects in our world and they say if the bees die we will die soon after them. I love bees and I am always happy when I see one flying around the flowers on our balcony.

The German name of the Small Heath is "Kleines Wiesenvögelchen" what means "Little meadow bird" in English. I think I prefer this name 😉 (Small Heath - Wikipedia).

The following images show the same fly as shown already in the beginning. It was just waking up from sleeping on a flower. I was a bit too late that morning, so the morning dew on it has mostly dried up already.

I take most of my macros hand held because placing a tripod takes time and if an insect moves or if it's windy, a tripod would only be obstructive.

There are spiders I wouldn't touch, but some look cute, just like this Raft Spider (Dolomedes fimbriatus / Raft Spider - Wikipedia). I'm always searching for Jumping Spiders, but I haven't found any yet, although they live here in Austria too.

I know the Click Bettles since I was a child - we held them between two fingers to feel the "click" when they tried to escape 😉 (Click Beetle - Wikipedia).

These are two different butterflies I have found on the same morning in August this year. Still half asleep, they didn't mind me taking photos of them at all (Aricia agestis - Wikipedia).

Last, but not least, I have a little mushroom family for you. It's no macro, but a close-up I have taken with my 70-200mm lens a couple of weeks ago. This mushroom family was growing so nicely on a mossy tree branch and I couldn't resist taking a photo of it.

So, that was it for today, I hope you enjoyed my views into the little world around us and wish you a Happy Weekend 🌞

I love to see photos of mushroom. They are incredible creature, the way they connected underground is amazing so whenever I see the fruit body of mushroom, I always imagine to a net mycelium underneath it

Remember the small things in life, you have a wonderful selection of many here even with this 'failing eyesight' these are not elephants either 😂.

These little ones really do move constantly making a tripod impossible to use when one is on the move, or with wind.

Ant and click beetle are the two I would select for sharpness, have a great day and keep on clicking....

Warm through the night still above 20, hopefully some rain will return soon. We remain on same level of lockdown as more scientific evidence is being explored on new Omicron variant.

In between snow and warm days watering the ground before the big fall arrives, last of leaves will soon be gone. White Christmas I would imagine you always have one!

This new variant of the virus seems to cause a lot of headaches. We are having it here already - no restrictions can stop this virus.

We haven't had White Christmas for quite some years. Either it snows a while before and all snow is gone till Xmas or it snows later in January, but every year we hope it snows on Christmas Eve 😀

Oh I hope it is a white Christmas this year then you can share some amazing photographs of that white fluffy stuff and a snowman or two, perhaps a hike up the hill as well!

This virus is never going to go away, it is much like the cold and flu, at the moment a hot topic so everyone is standing alert, carry on with life it's the only one we have!

We'll see, but I want to take these photos anyway, if not at Christmas then on another day ... White Christmas would be great though 😃

After some time we will get used of it and it will be like the flu, just as you said, and you are right, we should carry on with our life and shouldn't let it disturb it.

Perhaps I am cynical, if I think about life in general, SA children now teenagers, do not know a time in their lives of not having to deal with electricity issues (rolling blackouts), two years of covid disruptions, not life as we knew it.

Living to enjoy some life will be up to each individual having to cope with change, I hope nature gives you a special treat this year!

Hi Joan,

they are used of it, they have never experienced how nice it is to have power 24/7 or to go shopping without a mask - the new normal.

I don't know if I will ever get used of the mask.

A special treat would be to once again hike up a mountain where I haven't been since last year, and nobody else would be there, just like before the pandemic 🤣

Very strange when a teenager asks, 'was it always like this'? Try to explain 'this' is actually quite new, something we all still coming to grips with.

Hate these masks!!!

Need to start planning a trip to the mountains again early next year after February heat.

Hope you get up the mountain, see absolutely nobody else, keep a mask in your pocket in case...

Yep, but my kids were already almost 18 when it began, so they know "the life before", and I believe their kids will never ask this question, but will make big eyes when grandma tells them she has gone shopping without a mask 😂

I don't make plans for the next weekends, just do how I feel when I wake up.

"after February heat" - that still sounds so weird because in February I will be longing for the warmth of Spring and Summer ... after the February cold 😉

Younger generation will rightfully question..., they are losing best times of their lives through this. Hopefully soon this rectifies enabling them to continue in life as they wish, hope your daughter is settled and happy in town and pappa is not crying 😉.

We look at weather prediction one day ahead, when we wake up final decision made before going out, even weather apps are never that accurate.

Month of February here it feels like a hot wet blanket is thrown over you when you go out, not fun!

Now look forward to many cool photographs over the next few months...

Most of the youngsters here don't care and live as before, maybe a little more hidden. My kids take a little more care, but when they want to go out or meet someone they do it, no matter if it's allowed or not. But it's all different than before.
Well, always when someone reminds me that she's far away and "alone" I start to think and hope that she's fine, but she is a good girl and because of lockdown she's coming home next week for a while - homestudying 😁

The weatherman always lies, I think he or she does that on purpose 🤣

I only hope I have enough time - the end and beginning of the year are always the busiest times.

Children have to carry on with life, if they don't socialize how will they meet partners?

Your daughter will be fine, having her home will be fun now since she will share her new experiences in between having those Cappuccino's. We need to stop and think how we were at that age, you have to experience life to get to know what you want.

Weatherman changes it's mind quicker than you can change you clothing, wake up and see what is happening on the day is best.

End of year is always a frenzy, something I learned is stock up and pack away as much as able during October and November in preparation at home, work you can never assess something always pops up unexpected!

Oh, I don't tell my children how I was in their age - they know I wasn't the most well-behaved, but if they hear that I have been much worse ... 🤣
My daughter doesn't drink coffee, she's more like me, but instead of !BEER she drinks !WINE 😎

Oh yes, especially when there's enough work anyway, the unexpected things seem to happen more and more. I have had not a single minute of a break today and when I finally got home it was almost too dark to take photos of the fresh snow, but I drove around the lake anyway and this is one of the two photos I have got. Photoshop was heavily needed because it really was too dark.

I was intrigued at the beginning when I saw what I thought was a fly and you called it a weevil. No problems of course but I went into over thinking about your cold country not having flies like we do here in Queensland. In Melbourne in the State of Victoria myself sister does not have flies. I think it is far too cold for too long. Anyway I am rambling away!

Anyway @johannpiber you take very sharp clear photos of flies, it looks very real. Wishing you well 💛

Must be all of those scary big insects that frightened me.

Hahaha, we will both stand and watch them running away, oh, and then we will take photos as usual 🤣

Bees never attack without a reason my friend, so something had to have agitated those bees and that's why the soldiers were out stinging everyone. It normally starts at the hive, so if they find the hive, then they will find the reason 😘

Hahaha, you will never be forgiven methinks 🤣!LOLZ

Most times whenever the Queen bee is threatened. The bees have ordinary workers and then the have squadrons of soldier bees. These are the ones that die after they have delivered a sting.
That's as far as I can remember and I think it's time for me to do some research in the bee kingdoms again, as I learned all of this in the Biology class at school a 100 years ago 🤣
No news yet about the reason.

If the video goes viral and I make millions I leave the state and don't care 😂 !LOLZ

My father in law was a beekeeper, so I mean to remember that the ordinary bees don't mind if you take their queen and put her somewhere else into a new home. They just follow the queen. But this might only be the case for the bees here which are used to live in beehives.

I didn't hink of that - I have to think of a cool new name for me 😉

How do the beekeepers remove the hives? Always when a swarm escaped into a tree, my father in law took the queen and almost all other bees followed immediately.

Yeah, you are very inventive and I am sure that you will think of a great name 😜

I saw once that the pest controller's smoke them out with a hand held smoking machine. There was a hive inside a chimney across the road and I watched them in action.
No ways that your father in law will get to the queen bee in one of these hives.

Cheers and thanks.

Oh yes, my father in law had such a thing too. Smoke calms the bees down he said. I don't know if its true, but it worked.

So, one would never think that smoke could calm bees down. I thought that when they smell smoke they would fear a fire and that's why they moved out. But maybe the smoke makes them drunk in the head.

But I have just found it and your father in law is correct.
Check this,

So we learn something new every day.
