Macros and more | #AlphabetHunt for the letter R

avatar

Everyone should have heard about the #AlphabetHunt Challenge by now. This fun Challenge is hosted by the great artist Barbara @barbara-orenya in the Feel Good Community and you have to illustrate 6 words (or concepts) starting with the letter of the week.

This week we are hunting the Letter "R": AlphabetHunt letter R - and who are the winners of the lucky draw for the Q week...

Hive AlphabetHunt - Letter R

Viola Reichenbachiana

In German this little beauty is called "Waldveilchen" and in English it is also known as Early Dog-Violet or Pale Wood Violet. I have taken the photo in May 2020 and as far as I remember I haven't seen many of them in Spring this year.

Rain Drops

This is just a simple shot of a few raindrops left on a blade of grass after a wet night at the reservoir.

Hive AlphabetHunt Rain Drops

Rain Clouds

I took this photo in June this year shortly before the rain began which lasted a couple of days if I remember right. The setting sun illuminated the top of the rain clouds as well as the Castle Hochosterwitz nicely.

Hive AlphabetHunt Rain Clouds over Hochosterwitz Castle

There's a nice spot beside the road to the right, where I often stop for a little break and where I not only take photos of the castle sometimes, but also have a look what's going on in the Hive.

Rhynchitidae - Tooth-nosed Snout Weevil

I have found this little green and blue shining Weevil on a bush in my parents garden. A few moments after I took the photo it went hiding under the leaf. In German we call these beetles "Rüsselkäfer".

Rose

This is the blossom of a Rose Hip plant (German: Hagebutte). I have found it on a walk at the reservoir and I had to climb down a completely overgrown slope towards the water to get the photo.

Rye Grain

In German these are called "Roggen" and the field is right behind my parents garden. There are only a few trees and a brook between.

Hive AlphabetHunt Rye Grain

The morning sun was already shining bright from the left side, so I tried one photo with the Rye in the sun and when I made the second photo I used my hand to leave the grain in the shadow and have only the background illuminated by the sun.

Raft Spider

And last but not least something for the Spider fans: This little guy doesn't look scary in my eyes. At least I have seen and photographed other spiders lately which looked much, much worse.

Hive AlphabetHunt Raft Spider

The Raft Spider or Dolomedes fimbriatus (German: Gerandete Jagdspinne) was sitting on a flower waiting for a prey I suppose. Maybe it has got its food later, but before that it was my prey and I took quickly a few photos 😉

Well, that was this week's hunt - to find photos for the R was easier than for the Q, but in a couple of weeks we will think back to the "Q" and how easy it was 😉

These were 7 R's I know, but the Viola Reichenbachiana was not really a R because only the second part of the flower's name starts with the letter R ;)

Information

All photos were shot with the Canon EOS R and one of these lenses: Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS II USM, Canon EF 16-35mm 1:4 L IS USM, Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 L STM, SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM, SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM C.

I leave all EXIF and IPTC information stored in the pictures.

If you like my photos I would appreciate an upvote, nice comment or maybe you want to share my post on your blog 😊 ... and maybe you would like to follow me, so that you never miss a post from me.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog,
have a nice evening,

Good morning @suzana72 😊

Thank you so much that you like my R words - this letter was so much easier 😁
I saw this rose quite a few meters below the path and thought it would be nice to take a picture of it, because I might need it one day 😉

Spiders look most beautiful when you take a macro photo of them. I like the eyes most. This one was quite small and I'm not scared to touch these, but normally I leave all insects where they are and just try to take the best shot I can get. Last weekend I have found 3 very big wasp spiders which were hard to photograph and which looked really scary. Maybe I'll post them soon, and I'm curious if then you still will say you like spiders 😉

Thank you for your kind comment, @suzana72, have a wonderful weekend ☀️

Beautiful nature post @johannpiber ! Always a delight to dive in your wonderful landscapes, magnificent macros, and discover scientist names I wasn't even aware of...😍
Apart of the splendid landscape with the castle, my favourite is the raft spider with her fascinating spiky legs ! 😁

Great photos here Hannes,

That castle shot with the rainclouds takes the cake here for me.
Amazingly the spider's name in German is almost Afrikaans
German-(Jagdspinne) Afrikaans-(Jagspinnekop).

Lovely photos and good luck in the draw!

I was a bit too late for the castle photos (I took more ;), because a few minutes before the sky was dark and sunrays illuminated only the castle beautifully - much better than on this photo where most of the color was already gone 😊

Afrikaans evolved from Dutch I have read and many words sound familiar to me, because many Dutch words are smilar to their German translation.

Thank you for that you like the photos, Zac, have a great day and a wonderful weekend with best weather ☀️

Why is it that we only occasionally get the right shots, but that we see such beauties and we miss them for some reason or another lol.

I opened our front door and something said to me; "Look up"!
There on the roof sat a raptor bird that I have never seen before. A real strong and big brute!
Guess what? I had no camera, so I called out to Marian to please hurry with my camera.

Now you know that women are not the fastest on two wheels (feet), so a tense wait ensued with me watching the bird. What felt like a year, I had the camera in my hand, slammed the battery in and focused on the bird.
3 clicks was all that I got my friend.
First click good, second click a dud, as the bird moved and the third click a waste as the bird flew away.

So rushed outside hoping that the bird would circle overhead, but I waited forever, as he was nowhere, gone!

To cut a long wait short, I have one photo of what I think is an "Eurasian Buzzard" (to be confirmed)

Yes you are right, but Afrikaans has the content of a few other languages also in it as it was assembled by the residents here at the time. Dutch, or a local form of Dutch was the foundation, but German and even Italian also played a role. At least that's what we were taught.

May you guys also have a great weekend my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Oh yes, I know many of such situations ... such is life 😁 ...

Often I see a beautiful scenery when I drive somewhere, but no place besides the road and too much traffic to stop on the road. Bad luck, this image doesn't want to be taken by me 😉

Yes, I have read such on another website. It's a mix of several languages.

Hahaha, I hope your Friday is good thus far my friend,

Now what I for when there's heavy traffic and I see something, I pull half of the car lengthwise on the sidewalk with my hazard lights on and I take the photo hahaha.
At times people hoot at me, but I just wave at them with a nice smile lol.

But you are right as there are times that a person simply cannot take a photo and then I just enjoy the sight.

Oh, so you didn't believe me and you went to search for the truth in other websites hahaha.
It is indeed a mix and match of languages, even from Latin lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac 😊

Well, we have sidewalks in the cities and villages, but there are no sidewalks on narrow mountain roads or in the countryside 😉

Oh, I did believe you, I read this information the day before on Wikipedia I think.

We have a beautiful day and I don't think I will be much at home. Tomorrow I will be at work anyway.
Wish you a wonderful day Zac 🌞

Top of the world to you Hannes,

Mind you, my greeting suits you as you almost live on the top part of the world, but it is an old English greeting hahaha.

Yeah, so what happens if a car breaks down on those narrow roads?
The driver puts the hazard lights on and here we put a "danger triangle" behind the car. Then I open the engine hood and I take photos lol.

Joking about you not believing me lol.

Seems it is also going to be a nice day here and soon the rain clouds will start to appear, as they say that the rain will start later tonight. So I can get some of the advance clouds!

We will not be going out, as I need to push with the EL so it will be a long day again.

Blessings and thanks!

Good evening Zac,

I have just come home from a nice afternoon on the bike. The weather was great and I even stopped to take quick photos from two castles. But I have found a spot beside the road 😃

What would you do if the police stops and asks if they can help? 😉

The idea is good, but I wouldn't do it. Sometimes you see tourists stopping half on the road and take photos. They always cause an unnecessary traffic jam.

Hope you have good weather at sunset and amazing clouds, Zac 😊

Greetings Hannes,

Two castles? How many castles do you guys have there, as it sounds that almost everyone lives in castles hahahah.
Looking forward to the photos and do they allow visitors to go inside these castles?

Huh? Police stop to offer help? In what century are you living mate?

Of course you wouldn't do it my friend. Imagine the headlines; "Senior police officer willfully obstructs traffic" lol.

Nah, Zilch clouds tonight, so no sunset, but something even better. I got a great set of early morning clouds and then this afternoon we were called out to help an old lady, as her son's drug addicted girlfriend threatened to burn the house down.

We loaded the old lady in our car and we went to a place near the mountains where there are many small farms, we call the "plots" of land. So Marian and the old lady spoke to the woman and I took a walk with my camera.

Keep an eye out for tomorrow's post, as I was too late to post it today, but instead posted another post that I have been brewing lol.

Glad that you had a good ride my friend!

Cheers and thanks!

Well, according to Wikipedia we have 265 castles and castle ruins in Carinthia alone - I haven't known that there are so many 😀

I live in Austria and you may be sure that the police would stop. But I knew you would say something like that 😂

Good morning Zac,

there are even old ruins which consists of a few stones only on this list 😂
But many of the castles are open to the public, so at least parts of them can be visited by tourists.

So you could calm all down and it had a happy end 😁 👍

Hi Hannes, I greeted you in a previous comment my friend.

I think that there should be an interesting history behind all of these castles.
Either a reign of many kings, or large kingdoms with big families?
Great that some of them are open to tourists.

Hahaha, our problems are all over the internet here Hannes.

They are all calm this morning and the old lady was here for a cup of tea with Marian a short while ago. So now we are searching for a drug rehabilitation center for the girl. We have many contacts far away in Johannesburg, but not here yet.
Thankfully we now one of the spokesperson of the police, as she gave us some rehab center phone numbers.

Marian is busy now to contact the centers to see if any of them can take her in.

Hope that your Sunday is good.

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Zac,

Kings and Queens, Lords and Ladies and many more. Austria was a huge country or better said Kingdom once, but I like it as small as it is now, although we shouldn't have given up the Mediterranean Sea 😉

So you're always quite busy besides your other charity work - every day a good deed seems easy to do for you 😉

I have done a lot of photo editing and, prepared the next #AlphabetHunt post and began a post for tonight too, which I will have to finalize after I have made my replies 😊

Interesting and as soon as I get the time, I am going to delve deeper in the history Hannes. Do you know why they have given up the Med Sea?

Word gets out that we care Hannes and we could just not allow that young girl to sleep out in the street, even if she is a drug addict.
The old lady's son has now taken the the girl to a hospital, at least that's why said they were going to do, but there's no news of her admittance yet as Marian is doing the enquiries.
Drug people are driven to get their next fix and they are filled with lies to get what they want.

Yeah good news about getting your posts done and I have also posted that mystery bird about an hour ago.
I will look for your post tonight!

Cheers and thanks!

Long story my friend - there was the Austro-Hungarian Empire... too long story and I don't remember all.

To be addicted is never a good thing - no matter if it's alcohol or drugs, but drugs are killing faster.

Because I have been editing I didn't look much on the Hive, so I have a ton of comments to reply to, but I'll have a look at your bird right after it.

Not to worry Hannes, I am sure that when I go looking then I will enjoy the story.

Ironically the lady that sold us this house has a son that they have struggled to get clean of drugs for a very long time. Children get sidelined and lonely and ev3en all of the social media doesn't satisfy them, so they seek succor in the false life of drugs.
I said ironically because the builder that works on her own house also had a son hooked on drugs and he committed suicide!

No rush Hannes as you have 7 days hahaha!

Oh! I forget, don't type until your fingers are bleeding lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, I am expecting similar to the invasions of the Vikings lol.

We encounter them regularly in our charity work my friend. Just a tip if you ever meet one, be very careful of their stories, as they design them to show their innocence and are driven only by the need to get their next fix.

Hahaha, yay and this time I cannot be blamed, so even my one finger is smiling lol.

As humans we can certainly find ways to overcome our limitations and the way that you type is always clear and concise. But I am sure that your fingers trouble you sometimes, especially when you type or use them a lot.

Marian's one aunt is also riddled with arthritis and that's about all that I know about it.

Well there you go, as I said, we can basically overcome any bodily limitations that life serves us with.
Look at the Paralympics to see how we can perform with limitations.
We can even endure long term pain as I am walking on this leg since 1980 and I am still fooling myself by saying that one day they will not amputate it below the knee.

All strength to you with the arthritis my friend!

Hahaha, that's exactly what I was talking about Hannes.
Negative people that make it hard for other people that want to stay positive. They will moan, but they won't do anything about it as they say that they are trapped in their jobs, as they need the money.
There are so many ways that they can change it, as you well know.

One is called self improvement, study more to get higher qualifications that they can use to get a better job, but even that will not make them happy. The sad thing is that whatever they do, if they are not happy inside themselves, they will stay moaners.
The modern life teachers say; "Find something that makes you happy and spend all of your time and energy on it"

But they forget to say, seek first the happiness inside you, before you will find it outside lol.
Some have permanent winter inside!

Cheers and thanks!

So, my friend, what could I add or reply to your words apart from "I agree"?

Thinking positive and do what you love to do is all you need to be happy. If I look at some people I know I would say "don't look what the other people have and you don't have - see what you have and they don't have!"

I know that doesn't make much sense, but if you know these people you would agree 😉

Appreciation is very scarce in these days and I like your sentence that ends with "...see what you have and they don't have"
We have become trapped by the material things in this life and I will choose peace in my heart over a Rolls Royce any day of the week lol.

So, don't waste the !BEER on me - we say "don't bring water to the brook" 😉

Hahaha, well I can only wish you my blessings upon your dreams of being a rich old man lol.

We say "Don't give cucumber sandwiches to the Queen" lol.

In fact the CEO of a big company said that to us when we offered him some blankets in the boot of our car.
It was winter and he was moaning about a poor guy that was standing at the traffic lights outside his company occasionally to ask for blankets.

The outcome was that that same CEO joined the Papillon board lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Did he give the poor guy one of your blankets then?

Thank you and no, he went to buy 10 blankets and he gave it to the guy.
I felt so great, as he had been awakened to the need of others.
He told me that a charity guy offering him blankets to give to the poor made him realize that he should also be doing something for them.

After he joined Papillon we also met his wife and sons and a great outcome was that they all joined us at the cake and tea parties that Papillon held at the poor old age homes. They also brought food and drinks with for the old people.
Then a few years later, both the guy and his wife got leukemia cancer.
He is still alive, but sadly his wife who had become a great friend of ours over the years, sadly passed away last year.

Such is life my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Thank you Hannes and that was the same lady that brought us here to her apple farm.
About eight years before this she and her husband decided to give us a house. A beautiful little 2 bedroom cottage.
Close to all of the shops and near a highway that could take us anywhere in the city.

Now how many people do you know that will give people a house, even if they were super rich?
So at any rate, now you know how we got this house, as she suggested that we should move here and sell the house that they gave us up north.

Now she is gone and we have lost touch with her husband, as he retired and bought a little hotel. But he has also changed and wants to lead his own new life after his leukemia scare.

Strange how life can bring about miracles and changes my friend, but you know what I am going to say!
Yes, such is life!

Cheers and thanks!

And you know that was what I would say here in my answer Hannes,

But there's something else to this story.
Strangely it is as if it never existed. The farm was sold after her death, converted to once again become part of a full farming operation and all that's still there is the main farmhouse that the lady ad her husband built.

But that expensive upmarket and modern house with its many bedrooms is a silent testimony to all of us that once lived on that property.

Cheers and thanks my friend!

Wonderful choices and photography Johann.😊 I love seeing the two eyes of the spider staring out especially in the cover photo. It looks like an alien.😀

You shot an awesome macro of the rose and worth the stretch to reach it.

The shaft of rye grain illuminated is such a great capture. Rhynchitidae is a cute little beetle with his blue-green shining armour.

The background of the rain clouds and the castle looks like a fairyland.

Beautiful selections dear Johann🤗

I love these spider eyes Jo and much too seldom I find one which poses so nicely for photos 😊

I like your rose much better because of the Beetle on it - it gives the photo a very nice touch.

This castle is only a few kilometers away from home and I often stop at this place to take photos or do some Hiving work 😉 and sometimes the light is kind of perfect, although I have to admit that I have been a few minutes too late, because before I reached the place to park my bike the complete sky was much darker and one sunray illuminated only the castle very beautiful and colorful.

Thank you so much for the rehive and the goodies, dear Jo, I hope you have a wonderful Friday ☀️

Reminder of life renewed in rain drops, perfect droplets slowly on a journey to feed mother nature.

Rye grain for retaining good health in breads and beers, nice photography revealing grains still flourishing in the fields.

Weevil and spider both revealed in excellent macro photography Johann.

Very unique R words you have offered and even the not so unique words like the Rain Drops, the Rain Clouds and the Rose were made extraordinary because of your photos. (Although Rose Hip may not be so common too.) I love castles so it's the Rain Clouds photo that makes a deep impression on me.

My grandson was sitting on my lap while I was going through your post and he saw the picture of the Raft Spider. He got so excited and asked if the spider was Lucas' father. Lucas is one of his favorite YouTube character. He's a baby tarantula and he watches this everyday. Your photos even brought joy to the kid. Thank you.

The weevil and the Rye grain are exceptionally photographed. You did have a very excellent hunt this week my friend. Congratulations.

Have a great weekend and see you in the S hunt.
