Snake or Snail? | #AlphabetHunt for the letter S

avatar
(Edited)

I tell you the answer right in the beginning: Snail, unless I find a Snake before this post goes online πŸ˜‰

Another week has gone by and we are in the next round of the #AlphabetHunt Challenge, hosted by the great artist Barbara @barbara-orenya in the Feel Good Community, where you have to illustrate 6 words (or concepts) starting with the letter of the week.

This week we are hunting the Letter "S": AlphabetHunt letter S- and who are the winners of the lucky draw for the R week.

Hive AlphabetHunt - Letter S

Wild Strawberry

This little Strawberry has quite a few names and tastes so much better than its big sibling from the garden. The Fragaria vesca is also known as Wild Strawberry, Woodland Strawberry or Alpine Strawberry. In German we call it Erdbeere or Walderdbeere.

Stictoleptura rubra

Stictoleptura rubra is better known as the Red-brown Longhorn Beetle (German: Roter Halsbock or Gemeiner BockkΓ€fer).

Hive AlphabetHunt Stictoleptura rubra, the Red-brown Longhorn Beetle

These beetles can reach a length of about 0.39–0.79 inch and you can find them between June and September on meadows near forests and on forest clearings.

Snail

I have always thought slugs and snails would be the same, but now I know there's a difference: the slugs don't have a mobile home πŸ˜‰ Slugs are called "Nacktschnecke in German, what makes sense in my eyes, because it means "naked snail".

Hive AlphabetHunt Snail

Who thinks that Snails can only be found on the ground or on more flat surfaces is wrong, because you can find them everywhere. I do even think they love to climb on flowers.

Scorpionfly

The Mecoptera insects belong to the superorder Endopterygota and are sometimes called Scorpionflies after the Panorpidae, the largest family of the Endopterygota.
(German: Schnabelfliege / Skorpionsfliege)

Hive AlphabetHunt Scorpionfly

The male Panorpidae have enlarged genitals that look similar to the stingers of scorpions. The ones on my photos are female Scorpionflies.

Small Skipper

When we were hunting the L I have shared photos of the Large Skipper. Today I have the Small Skipper for you.

Shield Bug

Although the other Shield bugs look interesting too, I somehow like these bugs with the black stripes on red most. They are called Graphosoma Italicum or Striped Bug or Italian Stripe Bug.

Hive AlphabetHunt Shieldbug Graphosoma Lineatum
Hive AlphabetHunt Shieldbug Graphosoma Italicum

This Shield bug, which is called Dolycoris baccarum or Sloe Bug (German: Beerenwanze), has found a nice lookout point on top of a Verbascum or Mullein flower (German: KΓΆnigskerze / Kings Candle).

Another week of letter hunting has gone by and soon we all will be sweating in the cold because of searching the X and the Z's.

Information

I don't add information about the photos when I post for the #AlphabetHunt, because it's all about the words, but all photos were shot with the Canon EOS R and the SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM lens, apart from the ripe Strawberry, which I have shot quite some years ago with the Olympus E-510 and also a Sigma 105mm macro lens.

I leave all EXIF and IPTC information stored in the pictures.

If you like my photos I would appreciate an upvote, nice comment or maybe you want to share my post on your blog 😊 ... and maybe you would like to follow me, so that you never miss a post from me.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog,
have a nice evening,

That Scorpionfly looks pretty cool. I love the alpine strawberries, in Alaska they are so much more sweet and flavorful than the kind you can find in the store or the standard home garden variety. The wild ones in Alaska are pretty small so they take a lot to make just one store bought size, but man do they pack that flavor punch.

Yeah, they taste so much better 😁 When we were kids we have collected them in small buckets and enjoyed a delicious meal ☺️

I haven't found a male scorpionfly yet, but they look really like flying scorpions πŸ˜‰

Oh. WoW.
I am under the spell of each of your photos, they are so delicate and beautiful, whether it is plants or animals, we not only discover new learned names in Latin, but also the daily life of these insects seen through your focus with a background that remains in the poetry of the blur ... I love it ! 😍😍

In France, Spain, but also in Germany you can find snails on your plate. It is sold as a delicacy. ;) (Weinbergschnecken)

Slug or snail ... it is the wheels that make the difference. The way that little guy is sitting on the steem he could be part of the plant. I am inspired to a haiku.

There’s nothing boring about this post Hannes. It’s wonderful and every photo beautifully executed.

Great captures of the insects. I’m happy you have the snail and not a snake. I know they have their own beauty and purpose but I have my phobia. 😧

That strawberry looks so good, I could pick it right off the post and eat it.

Wow, great photos (again!), but I love closeups of insects because they truly are magnificent, amazing little creatures.

And I have never see a black snail either, so great catch!

And when you look at the incredible amount of beauty that Mother earth bestowed upon such tiny creatures, you know that she did it with love, cause I mean, just look at those perfect red and black stripes on the Shield Bug, it looks like it would feel like velvet.

Some seriously Sweet Sss's there @johannpiber! 😊

You are so right, and even the scariest animals and insects have their beautiful side.
There's only one animal she has designed on a bad day. And these animals are us, but maybe she tries to correct her error at the moment. I can only hope that we understand that.

Yes, I'm sure that you are absolutely right.

We already know and have known for years, that at the rate the human population has been exploding, Mother Earth cannot sustain us for too much longer without breaking and I think that that is happening right now- in 2 parts, one is the virus depopulating and the other is the exponential rise in environmental disasters such as the fire, floods, Tornados, hurricanes, volcanoes, etc and the severity of these catastrophic weather events...

Something has/had to be done...My only issues with the Virus is that is was not designed to discriminate between those that actually deserve to lose their life, but instead the innocents......😠

0
0
0.000
avatar

That's almost exactly what I am thinking too (almost again πŸ˜‰).

But I do think that the virus can distinguish between the people who deserve and who don't deserve to live ... I'm still here πŸ˜‚

Mother Nature is cleaning up and she hopes that the rest of us will keep it clean ... she hopes again and we shouldn't disappoint her trust in us.

Sticking with outdoor scenes for letter "S", superb once again Johann.

Surveying the meadows through your lens the strawberries would all have been gone before photography I promise that would give you strength to carry on....

Sturdy shell on 2nd snail, I must say streamlined stripes gives it a supreme elegance in sold structure as a mobile home.

Skipper butterfly/moth are different in looks soft fuzz, originally placed in a separate superfamily then reclassified into which they belonged.

Another great time spent through your lens in the countryside, thanks.

Ahhhh, those macros again! 😍😍😍 The snail looks so elegant and delicate by how you made a shot, Johann! Very beautifully done.

And the strawberry flowers are dainty. I haven't seen one before. We only grow strawberries in the north of the country, and I live in the south. Tsk!

Those bugs are pretty. I really love the research that goes with it. I mean, I would never know the names of the bugs in my neighborhood. Hahaha! 😍

Thank you for the stunning macros, my friend. They are very, very well photographed! 😍😍😍

Thank you so much @gingbabida, and I don't only mean your very kind compliments on my photos, but also that you have reminded me to look if there are any new #AlphabetHunt posts 😁

These wild strawberries are only small, but I would prefer one of these little ones to 10 of the big strawberries you can buy in the shops πŸ“πŸ˜‹

You are very generous with your support to the Alphabet Hunters. Thank you for that! 😍

I can understand why you prefer the wild strawberries, they are chemical-free! That's why we grow vegetables in our yard, so it will also be chemical-free. ❀

I love the #AlphabetHunt πŸ€—

Not only because there are no chemicals on them, because you can get big organic strawberries too, but they taste much, much better 😁

You have so many other fruits which taste the same or even better I believe πŸ˜‰
But strawberries are something special, that's true πŸ˜‹

Yes, I believe God created abundance in each and every climate. You have yours, we have ours. ❀ And neither are unparalleled with each other.

That's very true and I believe it would be very boring if we all would have the same landscape or fruits πŸ˜‰

Hey missed you Johan and your stunning photography πŸ˜ƒ

Snake would have been pretty awesome, I was on the edge of my seat when I saw the title πŸ˜€.. but the snail is also too good and I never thought snail to be so beautiful and charming. Thank you for that @johannpiber

You've beautifully planted three normal strawberries in a small range.Where there are flowers, there will be bumblebees,It is normal for different insects to come, but how did the snails come there?πŸ“πŸ“πŸ“

Good morning @jaster,

thank you so much for your kind comment, I really appreciate your nice words 😊

These are wild strawberries - they plant themselves, but thank you very much πŸ˜‰
The snails like to climb on the flowers and shrubs it seems, but let me quickly have a look for a Bumblebee...
