Good quality Shea butter
HELLO HIVE
quality production processes and producers of some of the good quality products out there started from the source product like shea butter we have producers who start from the forest and farms where this shea nut grow to the finished product.
You might be wandering why I keep emphasizing on finished product instead of just having to give that stage a name, well it is cause every one who is into this field have a part of it where they stop call their final destination and in shea butter production a producers destination might just be another persons starting point for example after producing the butter from the shea nut and packaging it that will be the last part for me because what I consume as the finished product is just the butter that I use as cosmetic and body lotion and that's all, then you see those in the pharmaceutical industry taking it a little step further to make some of the drugs we take without consciously knowing that it was from shea butter.
Some of this drugs are used to cure scars, eczema, burns, rashes, and relief nasal congestion.knowing just how important this product might be we might want to look at how it is produced from the point after the seeds have been harvested.
Methodology
Washing and sundrying
It is important to have the seeds washed before we start any work especially in cases where we are trying to consume it as food cause some people do so and I experienced for the first time when we visited a village for a workshop on sheanut processing into shea butter and the woman from that village told us how they even prefer using shea butter to fry things than any other cooking oil, it was quite fascinating.
Next up,
sorting
This part is equally as important as the first one, here we are just going to separate the good ones from the bad ones (burnt and cracked) but a question that I failed to ask was how can we sort this out if we are dealing with large scale production of it and I would love to have an answer in the comment section thank you.
Crushing into grits
When I saw how tedious this was without a machine I wonder just how much stress they go through to crush it cause according to an old woman there she said there was nothing like crushing machines before and that they used to do it manually huff! Thats a lot of work you know.
Sundrying to aid oil extraction
Milling into paste
Nothing special about this part since most og the work is done using a specialized machine.
Mixing with water and kneading
Even with a kneading machine available some families still use manual means to knead it cause some are trying to cut down on production cost and some of these machines are very expensive to own personally.
Washing and scooping
When you mix water with the paste and the residue the butter itself will flow onto of the water like most oils do when they come in contact with water and that makes it easy to scoop the butter.
Cooking
important to make sure that no traces of water is left behind
Obtaining crude butter
Packaging
make use of an opaque container sunlight affects it too
