When Direct Rice Planting Became My Only Choice ⭐
There are many different angles to the way we decide to plant our rice. Some angles support less stressful systems, even if the yield isn't up to the required standard, while others support working a little harder than the rest and getting better results at harvest.
Why Direct Rice Planting Became My Only Choice
Direct planting most times doesn't come up as a result of me choosing an easier way to do my planting; rather, it happens cause of the land that I am planting on.
Different lands exhibit different properties that make them perfect for certain planting techniques; In the case of this land, for most parts of the year,r I normally look dry until the later part of the year; by then it is too late to plant.
Now, because of the nature of the land being dry during July and August, when we transplant rice, it becomes difficult to transplant on that kind of land cause whenever we transplant on that land and there is a short break in rainfall, the rice dries up before it has the chance to actually take root.
Early Results and Field Observations
From my recent observation, you can see that direct planting is the best option available from any angle I look at it. If I were to transplant on this land, that would have been done by this time, and the land is so dry that digging holes to put the seedlings in is even difficult because of how dry it is.
Lessons This Experience Has Taught Me
I really need to know my land and my seeds before thinking about planting. The fact that I had early knowledge about how this land behaves throughout the year has saved me from the stress of transplanting over and over again without result.
Final Thoughts
You can learn a lot when it comes to farming by reading books and in classrooms, but I believe the true learning starts when you have your own farm, and you can see everything practically up close.
