¿Ruta Migratoria Secreta? Los Pájaros Carpinteros que Pararon en La Habana

Un gran barullo fuera del balcón de mi apartamento llamo mi atención. Fue una sorpresa ver varios pájaros carpinteros interactuando con los postes eléctricos que están frente a mi edificio. Inmediatamente tome mi cámara y tome estas fotografías que hoy comparto con ustedes.

Buscando en internet encontré que estas aves son originarias de Canadá y Estados Unidos. Lo curioso es que yo estoy en La Habana, Cuba. Específicamente en las afueras de la ciudad, en un reparto llamado Alamar. Alrededor de mi edificio hay gran variedad de árboles frondosos, algunos con unas frutillas que varias de estas aves consumían.
El Melanerpes carolinus, nombre científico de este pájaro carpintero, debe estar de visita en Cuba ya que es posiblemente mi país sea parte de la ruta migratoria que deben seguir estas aves. Eran varios los pájaros carpinteros que se veían revoloteando por el área.

A great commotion outside the balcony of my apartment caught my attention. It was surprising to see several woodpeckers interacting with the electrical poles in front of my building. I immediately grabbed my camera and took these photographs that I share with you today.

After searching on the internet, I found that these birds are native to Canada and the United States. Interestingly, I am in Havana, Cuba—specifically, in the outskirts of the city in a neighborhood called Alamar. Around my building, there is a wide variety of leafy trees, some with small fruits that several of these birds were feeding on.

The Melanerpes carolinus, the scientific name for this woodpecker, must be visiting Cuba, as it’s possible that my country is part of the migratory route these birds follow. There were several woodpeckers fluttering around the area.
