MY EXPERIENCE WITH AN AFRICAN CULTURAL GROUP

African cultural music is one aspect of music I really enjoy . The energy it is performed with is just so admirable. The set of instrument used in this kind of music is just so unique to it.

Cultural music is what I term the Music of the people. It speaks the language of the people, it promotes culture,preserves the heritage of the poeple,and gives roam to everyone to participate. One special thing about it is that there is never a dull moment during such performance.

As a young student of music , I was privilleged to go on a field trip to this wonderful cultural group somewhere in uyo Akwa Ibom state,Nigeria.

Akwa Ima Cultural Group

Akwa Ima cultural group is a group suited in a Village in uyo, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria . Its known for it tenecity in upholding the cultural values and beliefs of the community. Its a family cultural group, that is to say that its passed down from generation to generation.

This African cultural group has a Wide range of instruments including the slitwooden drum,the membranophones,the xylophone which plays the melody,the metal gong,woodblock,shakers and even the rattle, etc.
They have fine dancers with fine custumes who accompañy the group with such rythmical dance steps in a uniformed manner that is so colorful to the eyes. The instrumentation is done with great energy.

One of the music done by this grouo is titled eba (breast) this is done to celebrate the Joy of motherhood,and to remind the young children of the need to respect thier mothers because they sucked thier breast.

In conclusion watching the cultural performance of Akwa Ima cultural group and performing with them only increased my love for cultural music.
